We're on to penalties. Should be fun as I really don't care about either of these teams.

In other news, the people running the SuperLiga got so fed up with the CONCACRAP refereeing so far that they flew in Howard Webb for the match. :lol

I was wondering why Webb was refereeing :lol

Who else will scream if the MLS Cup is Houston v. NE again.
Me. I'm just tired of NE in general. Shit, they're good every fucking year, and they still only have 5 fans. Plus, they eliminated us from the playoffs in 2004. Fuck them.

Thanks for the heads up.

Also, I couldn't believe Reis went up second for the penalty.

Epic! Ridiculous save by Reis to win it after 8 kicks by each side. How the hell did he stop that?
Huh? Looked like the crossbar made the save to me.

After the first two NE penalties, I thought they were just goofing around since it seems like no one gives a shit about SuperLiga. Despite the one meeelllllliiiioooonn dollares.

And speaking of no one giving a shit, what the hell was up with the celebration?

He takes them regularly for the Revs. He made one in MLS Cup 2006 before they lost. Reis played striker when he was younger.

I thought he got a hand on it before it hit the crossbar. I went back and watched the tape, but I can't tell in slow-mo.

So I get that bomb ass deal from DirecTV tonight, and tonight my primary HR20-100's IR receiver stops working. Thank god for the home protection plan, this will be my 3rd HR20-100 if they send me another one. I'm going to request a HR21 I think.

What's the difference between the HR20 and the HR21? I finally hooked up my VOD tonight. Should be a good way to catch up on a couple of shows, particularly the Showtime stuff (Weeds, Dexter).

I only watched the replays they showed, but the ball rebounded quite strongly and Reis' hand barely moved. If he got anything, it was fingertips at best. But then, that could've been enough.

Good mid-range shot and knows how to keep the ball, but he's a little too slow. He could still be a good sub at Barcelona, but I dont know if they would keep him if a good offer is made. West Ham already tried to lure him with a 5m +/- deal and failed.

But he seems like a good guy, if he is not going to be given minutes here I would rather see him in another team.

Skip the first minute, hilarity ensues :lol

:lol WTF. And he misses at the end, too.

Anyway, I think the odds of him coming back (he played of PSV in the distant past) are very slim, but I'd love to see him at PSV. He's still speaks fluent Dutch, too. One of few really intelligent footballers.

Anyway: tonight's the Newcastle - PSV friendly. Really looking forward to seeing what lineup Stevens picks. Too bad it doesn't see to be on broadcast anywhere.

And for all you Arsenal fans, this was FC Twente's lineup in the friendly match against Ankaraspor:

Boschker, Wilkshire, Wielaert, Douglas, Braafheid (84' Heubach); Tioté, Brama (70' Wellenberg), Janssen; Denneboom, Arnautovic, Elia (70' Huysegems)

It's basically a classic 4-3-3, and the lineup against Arsenal will resemble it. if you guys have any more questions about Twente, let me know.

Huddersfield v Arsenal, 19:00
Celtic v Man City, 19:45
Newcastle v PSV Eindhoven, 19:45
Man Utd v Juventus, 20:00
New York Red Bulls v FC Barcelona, 12:00

United and Barca for me, I might watch the first half of the Arsenal game as well.

Going to watch the toon vs psv tonight, were are going to get fucked over. Smith is our only fit "Striker", still, it will be nice to get back in the stands again.

Aren't Martins and Owen fit to play? What's you're lineup going to look like?

We have a lot of new players: Manco (17 year old striker), Amrabat (21 year old striker), Brechet (28 year old left centreback), Maza (26 year old right centreback) and Isaksson who will most likely all play this evening.

M.E.N. Sport understands at least three groups - believed to be based in the Middle East and India - have been approached by an intermediary with a brief to find the money to catapult City into the Premier League top four.

However, financial analysts say big money investors are likely to want full control and could launch a full-blown buy-out bid - and that would leave billionaire Thaksin, 59 with a major dilemma as he's facing corruption charges in his homeland and still has £800m of his fortune frozen.

The ex-Thai Prime Minister's admission that he alone cannot splash out to fulfil his ambition to break into the Premier League's top four raises a huge question mark about his confidence that his his frozen assets will be released.

No they're crocked, I read in the newspaper yesterday that Newcastle lost 3 friendlies in 8 days against teams I've never heard of before, while scoring 0 goals.

Suffice to say Newcastle's Pre-season atm doesn't show encouraging signs going into the new season at all.

Well you need to concentrate on the league fully rather than come to February and realize you have more chance in the CL and start resting players for mid-week games, you need to play Torres in every-game and stop rotating. You have a set good players and two great ones, there is no reason why you can't push for more. Just do all this after we take your record ok?

At the beginning of the Torres' first season, Benitez was probably concerned about how Torres would fit in on a week to week basis, this season that veil of uncertainty shouldn't be a problem.

Saying that Benitez did switch out Gerrard on occasion at the beginning of that season too, he's really got to stop overestimating our strength in depth. -_-

God, I got curious and tried EVE out yesterday for no apparent reason after it being mentioned here.... Now I'm addicted. :'(

The last few friendlies have been against Doncaster, hertha Berlin and Mallorca.

These games were played without any contribution from the likes of: Given, Krul, Beye, Butt, N'Zogbia, Gutierrez, Martins, Faye, Barton, Viduka, Owen - and Coloccini (see below).

Tonight's team news nicked from nufc.com:

NUFC: squad details to follow.....new boys Jonas Gutierrez, Sebastien Bassong and Danny Guthrie are expected to make his first appearance at SJP.

Habib Beye expects to play his first game of pre-season.

I think Owen and Mertins are both supposed to play a bit part against Vallencia on Saturday. Owen caught mumps in the summer and has barely trained, Martins' mother died a few weeks back and then picked up a knee injury so has not trained either. The fat Ausie is out until september I think.

Coloccini is rumored to be signing today and is likely to be in the stands. Feel sorry for the fucker sat behind him.

well, I was being serious.

I honestly think that Van Persie and Adebayor together are the best out of those 5 strike partnerships. Keane and Torres will work well together, as will Rooney - Tevez and Berbatov - Bent.

Obviously there's personal bias, but that doesn't mean we can't discuss things like this seriously.

It's pretty much baiting, your an intelligent guy, you knew it would start an argument, that no-one will win as I'm not going to get you to sympathize with Manchester United and you're not going to get me to sympathize with Arsenal.

yes. but the beauty of this place is that we can discuss things like this regardless of bias and in the past we had serious responses to questions like this.

Discussing football is not some sort of war. We can still try and talk and think about other clubs, even competitors, in a relatively unbiased way - at least in theoretical questions like this one.

I happen to think that our 2 main strikers will score us around 40 goals next season, Liverpool's striker duo will score around 35, Spurs around 30 and Manyoo just behind that with Chelsea somewhere just over 20.

Then I go by quality, attributes and potential and again Arsenal win out (when put together).

It was just something that was running through my head at work so I asked how other people viewed it, and I'm sure there's gonna be a couple of good responses.

We'll it's ridiculous to compare as our 'strike-force' to any other as ours does a different job to say Arsenal's or Chelsea's, ours create and are almost like attacking midfielders running at defenders not running off of them like Adebayor or Drogba.

Maybe if everyone's system was the same then it would be easier to compare, but it's not.

hadareud

Van Persie isn't exactly a pure centre forward either, is he now. He's a linking player between midfield and striker.

It's not my problem you don't have a proper striker ahead of either Tevez or Rooney. That system didn't come about by choice.

Cedeo

Last season you scored 31 and assisted 6, ours scored 26 and assisted 20.

26+20>>>>>31+6

Do we win?

Also the majority of your goals come from your strikeforce, we have a certain someone who scored 31 league goals who isn't even a striker.

Yes it did, as we signed Tevez - it is a choice to sign Tevez,

He wasn't given to us by FIFA who said "HA! Try and win the league now!"

It's hardly been unsuccessful either, it's worked much better than your 'donkey'.
