affirmative. the beefing has ended because people aren't as touchy today. making fun of each other and laughing about it is all cool.

but, it'd be bad if this shit about City was true. Thaksin is a douche.

tons of new stuff on FIFA09 over at www.fifasoccerblog.com

I have to admit, it looks VERY good. I just got into PES like this year, but if they don't make some huge improvements, EA will kill that franchise off. The gameplay in FIFA09 looks very fun.

Animations are very realistic as well.

They even got Ronaldo's free kick stance into the game

Looking good! Was a PES fan throughout the PS2 and looks like I'm going to be a FIFA fan throughout the PS3.

I REALLY hope they turned off bookings for that demonstration, how did the defender not get at least a yellow for that? That's the sort of nonsense that sometimes happens to me online in 08 where the defender is the last man and gets a yellow card!

Oh, and C. Ronaldo squirrel watching? Secret to his success revealed!

I actually just played 2 game of FIFA WC06 on 360, lol.

the graphics in that game are better than FIFA07 and 08 imho. Gameplay was way too arcadey though. Don't know how I liked that game at all.

Ronaldo needs a new hairdresser. Parts around here that hairstyle would pass as fashion, and that my friends is NOT a good thing.

Maybe he should wear a hat like Cech.

When does that come off btw for him, it seems ages since his injury, I saw he took it off during your penalty loss to CSKA Moscow.

Back from up North. Just finished watching the US - Holland match. Frustrating to see the US pull it together in the 2nd half but give up the equalizer at the end. Plus, Adu and Bradley took bonehead yellow cards and are out for the final match against Nigeria. Grrrr. Nowak has some coaching to do, and that's a frightening thought. Time to look up the timebreakers....

We finally have Everton fans around here, eh?

Who's this Inler guy anyway? Any thoughts on the Arsenal friendlies this weekend? I saw the scorelines and read writeups, but I didn't watch any of the action.

He grew up here up until his early teens, has dual-citizenship, and we always have problems up top. US fans have been pining for him for years, but he really has no interest. It's just frustrating to let one get away when we have so few high level attackers. Funny that he might line up with Altidore this season.

Really sweet goal by Klestjan off the assist from Adu though. The field looked like ass in HD, like the rough at a poorly maintained public golf course.
The field was terrible. One of the worst I've seen. Probably hurt the Dutch more than us, though. :lol

Sounds like the US is through with a win, draw or a Dutch loss on Wednesday.

Isn't that the dude with the hilarious "Know peace" pic.

Anyway, Nigeria VS USA should be good fun. I'll try to stay neutral.:lol

Heh. I'm worried about Adu and Bradley being out. Not sure how much offense we can generate without Freddy. Bradley is less of a miss because we can put in Szetela or Failharder for him. Overall, I'm starting to question Nowak's decisions on defense. Edu's playing out of position (should be in center midfield) and Orozco should be playing center but he's at left back. Maybe bringing Pearce and leaving McHead at home might have worked better. Oh well, I'll stop complaining if we manage to qualify for the 2nd round.

Doctor told him to wear it for 2 years I think, but I believe he's said in interviews that he plans to keep it on. I love how Adidas flipped out when he first wore the CCC hat and they went in and custom made him a helmet.

It should be a pretty entertaining match. I'm very, very nervous. I mean, to think that this one game could mean us going home, us losing to Argentina in the Round of 8, us winning the group and having an okay shot at a medal, and to think that Nowak is going to have to do more than just watch the game... I'm practically shaking here.

The good news is that I get to watch two Crew players in the game, Rogers and Ekpo. Man, I have such a man crush on Rogers. Geez, I just want to 'boop' his nose.

Adu has been pretty effectively neutralized. Not sure if it's as big a loss as everyone is making it out to be.

Also we all know what Nowak needs to pull the trigger and do for the Nigeria match:

I have very little faith in Nowak. What's Nigeria's situation? Are they through on a draw, or out with a draw if Holland win?

He hasn't had a great tournament so far, but he played well today (sprung Kljestan) and drew plenty of coverage that opened it up for other players.

Posted this in the olympics thread, things have the potential to get hairy. Of course, if we win, we automatically win the group, so let's just go for that. However:
Nigeria and the USA have 4 points, the Dutch have 2, Japan 0.

The first tiebreaker is goal difference. Nigeria and the USA are +1, the Dutch are even, no one cares about Japan.

The second tiebreaker is goals scored. The USA has 3, Nigeria 2, Holland 2.

...After that you get into some head-to-head shit.

Lineker is a cunt and an idiot. For fucks sake, dude was riding the pine(being English) for the Dream Team. Didn't shining Romarios knob after a match get you real up close and personal with a player better than Cuntaldo?

Chelsea can't keep Lampard and Deco happy if they get kaka.

Wagner Love to Everton sounds interesting. Now that they got rid of Johnson, a decent strike partner for Yakubu might make the race for UEFA cup spots the best EVAR.

I had fun too with WC06, but man I must have been on some crazy shit back then. I tried going back for some achievements but I just could not play it all.

WC06 was a horrible, horrible game.

I still got all the achievements, but the only reason for it was that I was bored and at the time there wasn't any other games out for the 360.

I also still hate them for making one of the scenarios ridiculously hard to complete, it took me bloody hours to do it. Can't remember which one it was now anymore though.

*PREDICTION LEAGUE UPDATE*

We have decided to go with the Guardians Pick The League interface for our predictions league this year, not a separate thread (it's just too much work. Not for me obviously, but for Cornballer who was actually doing it). The good news is that this system actually emails you reminders a day before the games, so that should be pretty handy. We will be posting weekly updates on the league positions etc.

A league has been set up and everybody is free to join.

IF YOU WANT TO JOIN PLEASE SEND A PM WITH YOUR EMAIL ADDRESS TO EITHER MYSELF OR CORNBALLER AND WE WILL SEND YOU AN INVITE

(make sure to not use your real name on there as this is the internets and even GAF isn't free of internet detectives and other dodgy people. It would also make sense to actually incorporate your GAF username so we actually know who you are on there)

edit: some more details about how it all works:

How much does it cost to play Pick the Score?

Entry is free. Simply register your details, which should take less than a minute, and then you’re ready to play.

How do I enter my predictions?

1) Click on enter your predictions on the left-hand navigation bar. A new page will appear.

2) Click on the dates of the matches you want to enter your predictions for. A new page will appear.

3) Simply go down the page, clicking on how many goals you think each team will score. When you are finished, click on the place predictions button. You will now receive a message telling you your predictions have been logged.

Can I change my predictions?

Yes. You can make or change a prediction up to 30 minutes before the kick-off of each match. All updated selections must be re-submitted by clicking the place predictions button.

How are points earned?

Simply predict what you think the final score will be of each match by choosing how many goals you think each side will score. Points will be allocated as follows:

Correct result (ie win or draw) only = 1 point

Correct result and exact score = 3 points

No points will be allocated if your prediction for a match is incorrect.

I’d like to play against my mates? How do I go about setting up a friends’ league?

1. First, register your team.

2. Then go to the homepage and click on friends’ leagues on the top nav bar.

3. Enter your friends’ league name in the box and click on save details.

4. A new page will open. Here you can type in the names of up to five friends, plus a message.

5. If you would like to enter more friends go to my profile and click on your friends' league name. A page, with space for five more email addresses, will appear.

How do I find out how I’m doing in the overall standings?

You can view your picks online and compare them to the top point-scorers in the Standings section of the site.

Will there be email updates to remind me when there are upcoming matches?

Yes. Once you've registered, you'll also receive regular reminders letting you know about upcoming matches and how you are doing overall.

What can I do if I forget my password?

Click on the log in/register button on the top nav bar. Enter your email address in the box provided and we will send you a new password. Log in with the new password – important: please type this password in, not cut and paste it. Once you’re logged in you’ll be able to change your password to something more memorable.

Shakhtar Donetsk signed 2-years deal with Konami and now will be included in PES, starting PES 2009.

http://shakhtar.com/mpl/allnews.pl?id=7843

If that means that Dynamo Kiev is out, Konami will not see my money this year. :p

what's funny is that Konami hasn't released shit in regards to PES2009. I mean, the just officially announced that Messi will be on the cover. Practically nothing regarding gameplay. I saw the intro video and it was all CGI shit, no actual gameplay graphics. On the other hand, FIFA has been at 3 events already and has released a sleu of new media. Granted, some of it is shaky cam video but who cares? It's still something.

I almost feel like Konami are ashamed to put their shit out there because they're not happy with it right now or something. I dunno, but it'd be really bad if FIFA officiall overtook PES. If they got enough people playing, I think it would be hard for Konami to get them back.
Let me start by saying that I am neither City or Spurs, but I do know a little about what is happening with Corluka due to a 'business' interest.

When Spurs first made contact, it was Shinawatra's people that agreed a fee with Spurs and told Corluka he was free to leave. They did that without Mark Hughes' knowledge or consent.

Corluka was suprised to say the least. When Hughes took over he told Corluka he was one of the mainstays in his future plan for MCFC. Nevertheless, Corluka travelled to London to meet with Spurs' people.

Hughes then found out about the deal, and basically vetoed it - which was something the Thai's people had agreed he could do with any transfer activity when he took over. That's when Corluka was summoned back to Manchester to go up to Glasgow for the Celtic friendly.

Behind the scenes a real row started between Hughes and certain elements of the board; Hughes furious that they had gone behind his back to sell Corluka to Spurs, and the board enraged that Hughes had effectively recalled him from London for the Celtic game.

Shinawatra's people told Hughes that evening that the deal was 'too good to turn down', largely due to Shinawatra's financial problems. So, immediately after the Celtic game, Corluka flew back to London to resume talks with Spurs.

When Spurs' initial offer was accepted, Corluka had no real desire to leave City. That wasn't anything against Spurs, more the vision for the future of MCFC he had been sold by Hughes and Cook. However, after meeting with Spurs and talking with Modric, Corluka was sold on Tottenham and agreed terms. He went through a two-day medical, which he passed without problem. He's been holed up in a London since early Friday morning - hence why he missed the club photo.

Spurs agreed the final details for the transfer with City yesterday morning, and Corluka put pen to paper on his player registration.

Then City's people accepted the offer from Sunderland for Stephen Ireland, and Hughes went properly mental. Twice in 48 hours he felt he was having players he wanted sold from under him. In a rage, it was Hughes who called Ireland and told him he was expected to report to the CoMS to report for the Milan game. Hughes putting him on for a couple of minutes was a big statement on his part.

Here comes the really interesting part.

Hughes last night told Cook he was through with City and wants out, the sale of Corluka and Ireland being the straw that broke the camel's back. He said if the Corluka deal went through particularly, he would be on his way out of City too.

At that point City have tried to derail the Corluka and Ireland deals.

BUT, Spurs claim to have completed the paper work for the transfer which has already been lodged with the FA and signed by someone from City with authorisation to do so. City say they agreed a sale in principle with Spurs, but that no final transfer documents had been signed.

As such Corluka, who was expecting to be paraded at White Hart Lane this afternoon, is in limbo. However, he has now set his heart on Spurs and linking up with Modric and has told City he will not return to the CoMS under any circumstances. He has been sold on Tottenham, and become frustrated with the background stuff taking place at City.

Spurs and City are maintaining their respective positions, but Spurs have basically told City that they are willing to see the issue go to court. They believe they have signed Corluka, and Corluka wants to play for them.

What a mess."
