Official Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess thread

It looks beautiful on a SDTV with composite. :)

I'm loving the game so far. It took me about 5 minutes to get used to the controls, but I've got it down now and I can't see myself ever going back to a traditional controller.

I thought the waggle sword slashing was a bit gimmicky at first, but once I got used to it, I was having a lot of fun and feel it's more immersive and intuitive. There will certainly be opinions from some who prefer button pressing and I'm cool with that. However, the aiming is brilliant and shits all over what is possible on a pad.

I see that the Impressions are really good. So, the Wiimote is not a gimmick at all with Zelda.
So, best Game ever in your opinion ? Or Ocarina of Time remains THE Masterpiece ?

I wouldn't say the controls are a gimmick in Zelda, no. Would they have been better in a Zelda made from the ground up on the Wii? Most likely. There is defintely room for improvement, but I feel calling them 'tacked on' or a 'gimmick' unfair because they work so well.

Best game ever? Way too early to say, but it's got potential. Really great stuff.

Like it better than Wind Waker? I realize this is a pretty lame question, but in terms of Zelda stuff I usually agree with you (even though I'm pretty set on the Wii version of it).

Anyways, so where are you guys at in the game right now and how long played?

I just beat the Forest Temple and have played 5:27.

(if it's past the first two dungeons lets use spoiler tags please)

ps. I added all you fools so ADD ME. I don't want that time entering all those codes wasted!

I love all the questions of 'Is this the best Zela ever??!' , 'Does it beat Oot'?, 'Better than WW?' when pretty much everyone here is at most a few hours in.

I have a question for those who already have the game:

One of the unique appeal of post-NES Zelda games have been its charm, its quirkiness and its humor. Since Twilight Princess is such a turnaround from Windwaker, I was wondering if this element has been underrepresented, as well, or do they keep a good balance between seriousness/"maturity" and quirkiness (ie Majora's Mask)?

(Just general impressions, no spoilers please!)

i couldnt get a wii but i did manage to buy a copy of twilight princess...and now im looking at the game like an idiot!!!!!!

F*CK it im gonna play okami again!!! OKAMI = A BETTER GAME

/cry

Anyone else having it freeze up on them? I've tried four times and cannot get it to load up the Ranch right at the start of the game, so I've basically been able to play for like 10 minutes. This sucks.

this game is so long, i think it'd be unfair to judge Wind Waker OR Twilight Princess based on, like, 8 hours of play :lol

I love it though, no doubt this is the real deal. The difficulty level still seems a tad too easy, but it's all so tightly designed and you can feel the loving care

quite unlike anything from Nintendo since Pikmin 2, in my opinion!

Can any left-handers comment on using the remote for aiming? This is probably what will make or break it for me in terms of deciding whether to get the GC or Wii version.

Anyone want to tell me how to
get Epona back so I can go to Hyrule
.

The question pertains to the begining of the game (but it's not the cat!).

so im in the village trying to catch a fish ... dude ... ill be honest, I'm all about this Wiimote thing but I've been trying this for about 3 hours and I cant get this shit to work. I'm this close (-) to bringing my Wii back man, and im hesistant to even open the other games ... is it the controller just not being responsive or what?

so who else turned off the remote pointer? that sound Navi sound effect... can't deal with that.

Does doing this force you to aim with the thumbstick? Navi sounds really annoying from what I've seen on the net.

I don't get all these problems. I literally did nothing, and caught two in a row.

1) cast fishing line.

2) wait for fish to bite

3) hook fish by jerking "up"

No Waggle. No bait, nothing else. When the bobber moves, hook. Took likw 30 seconds.

That does really suck. But you shouldve just bit the bullet and got out there and camped. I got up at 5:30AM in the freezing cold of the morning and sat down next to the other folks in front of Target. It was brutal, one guy talked too much, but it's all about how much you wanted the system and games.

This game is just wow. But...

Do i need the shield before I venture off into the forest temple? How do I get it?

Midna forces you to get both the Shield & Sword before you can go to the Forest Temple. That's the only way you can get to the first "Light God" who will then revert you to human form.

Gotcha, thanks.

This game just FEELS right. It really makes the wiimote an essential part of the experience. The sound coming out of the wiimote for sword slashing is ridiculous though. THAT got turned down.

Maybe your copy wasn't bugged. The fish literally don't care about me at all. They just swim around for minutes and minuts.

You sure you didn't waggle while the bobber waited?
i've just got my remoted on my knee at this point awith nothing going.

Once in a great while it'll say "hook on" or something, but if I immediately jerk back, nothing happens at all. I refuse to admit this is my fault.

I am about an hour and half into the game as I just
finished that quest of saving that girl from the monkey
and all I have to say is that this game is ****ing awesome so far

OKAY, A fish idiot just figured out how to catch a fish.

1. Cast into the water.
2. Watch the bobber go under and at THIS point (not at the point where it says "hook on") pull straight up.
3. At this point it WILL say "hook on", but don't ****ing JERK the thing again, just HOLD IT STRAIGHT UP.
4. Link will pretend to have a hard time for a while, but then the fish will eventually give up and you'll have a ****ing fish.

**** YOU MIYAMOTO.

You are supposed to make a reeling motion with the nunchuck

There's two types of fishing. One where you just fish in water holes and the other where you go to that special fishing area in the game. The reeling doesnt work on the regular fishing in the town.

EDIT:

Bobbler Fishing is when you fish at regular water holes(rivers, streams, etc.). You do this in the beginning of the game.

Lure Fishing is the real deal. It's what you saw from the demos. That's when you reel in fish and catch those gigantic bass. You go to a special area in the game to do this(which I havent gotten to yet :lol )

Since someone mentionned the pointer, what is it used for? Is it a way to activate the HUD (like pressing on the map show toggle map option, like size, turning it on or off), does pressing on the objets on the upper right corner show the invetory? Can we use it to choose which ennemy to Z-target?

Or is it just here so that you don't point outside of the screen, which could mess things when you turn the first perso view?

The pointer(outside of aiming) is used to select options in the game. Like Save, Confirm, Yes/No in cutscene options, etc. Also, you point to items in the Item Selection screen and press the button you want to assign the item to(if you press the B button under the Wiimote, it will be assigned to B for example).

That's one reason why Navi(the blue fairy) isnt annoying in the game so far. I mean unless you're selecting an option or assigning items, you're not using the pointer. The pointer cursor drops to the edge/bottom area of the screen and you can hardly see the fairy on the screen.

Is it "HAY LITHEN" all over again ?

This is different than "hay lithen" because everytime you move the wiimote the fairy makes a noise to let you know you are registering.

Every time. I guess I either don't have a steady hand or, say, I need to use the attack feature? I'm ignoring it, but it's such a strange thing to have in the game...it's obnoxiously loud for what it is.

GREAT game. Been playing for hours and it feels like five minutes.

Wow, this game is amazing! I finally got to the second temple, after putting in about 6 hours of game time. My wrists/arms feel fine!

Not sure where the "lack of camera" complaints are coming from. I haven't had a single issue with a lack of a camera stick. Of course, I didn't have any fishing problems either.

I think there might have been a few places where you would have liked better camera control, but other than that it's been perfect. It's not as extensive as Wind Waker's camera contro. But you see exactly what you need to, which is all that matters. It wouldve been more of an issue if you DIDNT see what you needed to

ok, HELP Please :( Post-First Dungeon

Whats this stuff about this missing bridge? Where am I supposed to go? I can see a small possible path I haven't visited in that part of Faron with a huge mist of purple, but otherwise I have no clue what the hell is going on at this part! How is a bridge supposed to just go 'missing'?

EDIT: And just when I post after hours of running around, I find it. Such is life....

Just met
Zelda
. I LOVE the direction Nintendo took this in-- not "teh mat00r" or whatever, but the emphasis on the cinematics and such. Really great.

first "big stupid grin moment":

when midna first shows you how she can pull you up to hard to reach areas. there's just something really satisfying about her laugh, triggering the pull, the laugh, the pull, so on. also loving the style of the twilight realm much more than ordon village.

it's already incredible.

Aiming is fine with my right hand. When I play single hand games I definitely use my left (for like Wii bowling and such) but toying around with Red Steel, and Trauma Center, I have the remote in my right hand and it's really not bad at all, and those two take a LOT more precision than anything in TP.

You should be fine.
