MultiClutch isn't working :( Is there an equivalent program that anyone is aware of that allows you to define gesture commands on a per app basis?

Hmm...actually, is this related to Safari no longer supporting input managers?

Mudda fugga...

Edit: Yikes...this may make me not use Safari anymore, as multi-touch gesture navigation is way too important to me. They somewhat fix animated gifs but break my multi-clutch :(

Are the normal gestures still there and just not your modified gestures?

Picked up my copy :D

Some of the UI feels very inconsistent, though. Specifically the menus... on the Dock, menu's have the cool, new white text on black background (which I love), but right-click context menu's everywhere else is still black text on white background. Wish there was a way to apply the new style system-wide, but the Appearance preferences are as bare-bones as always.

I got it working on OS X 10.5 mind you...

It shipped yesterday. I don't think there's a single company that lets you cancel after it ships. Oh well, I'm just impatient. Not like I can install it yet anyway =P

Yeah, normal stuff (apple built-in) all works.

It's Safari specific, as the new Safari doesn't support input managers. In the meantime I'm going to have to use FireFox because I use gestures so heavily when browsing that the entire experience is neutered without them.

So I just talked to a Snow Leopard representative. According to them Snow Leopard preorders are way behind as the amount of preorders greatly surpassed what they expected. They did so much that there servers are currently down. They said that I should be getting an email by the end of today about my orders status and if not monday by the latest.

Well that's what I'm told.

Well then, couldn't you juys buy it at a retail, then when the shipped copy comes in, take THAT copy back to the retail store for a refund?

God knows how many times I've done that. I'm a consumer whore, and how!

I...don't think you can cancel an order that's already in transit.

I guess I was super lucky. My SL shipped this morning, and is going to get delivered tonight (and I paid for the cheapest shipping).

Would Snow Leopard be individually coded? I don't think they have individual serial numbers so this might be possible.

to be specific. multiclutch will not work on any 64 bit app as it is an input manager and those are disabled in SL for 64 bit apps.

solutions:

1. run safari in 32 bit mode (can be done from get info screen, i think
2. use firefox as that ain't moving to 64 bit cocoa for a loooooooooong time, if ever.

Contemplating going over to the Apple Store this afternoon after work to pick up Snow Leopard. Is it going to be a madhouse or would I be in and out with relative ease?

Hmph...hopefully the dude (or someone else) comes up with a way to get a Multi-Clutch like program working, as that thing was boss and I'd very much like to use my Safari again.

All I know is that my Apple Store as well as the local Best Buy just scanned the price barcode and nothing more.

Alright, lets start talking about the stuff that really matters here: is the Apple store giving out any free swag today? I got my Macbook on the day Leopard launched and got a free t shirt. Are Apple stores making a big deal out of this launch day?

yeah, I'm pretty ignorant of ways to get something like multi-clutch to work if it's NOT an input manager. hopefully there's a way. I'd pay good money for a system wide trackpad customizer that wasn't a hack.

I treat all my OSes equally, whether it be Windows, Fedora, or OS X. I like to run the OS lite, I always have and I know others do too! Nothing wrong with bare-necessities, especially when it looks clean and elegant.

This is a small version of my desktop. Look at the lack of transparency in the menubar, and 3D in the dock. Looks nice no?

do you switch from the genie to scale animation to save processor cycles?

I switched because that just because I'm old-fashioned. Love the old-time scale effect. :D But yeah, it seems as if GAF doesn't have a lot of bare-bones OS users here. What a shame, it's still the same OS, just a little more efficient.

the changes you made are aesthetic ones. they're not really affecting your efficiency or the speed of the system.

(well, the one exception would be the transulcent menubar making it more difficult to read menu items with a loud background. that would, in theory, make someone more efficient.)

but please don't be under the impression that those two changes are improving the speed of the machine in any appreciable way.

the changes that SL have made to the system with GCD and multi threading have waaaaaaaaaaaaay more impact on system speed than anything you've done with a vanilla 10.5 install.

i dont think the dock is real 3d you know

its just a sprite, the only different thing compared to yours is the faux reflections

edit: oh and you seem to be using colloquy which is the most ridiculously inefficient app i have used on ANY platform :lol it chokes on channels that have too many users and eats your CPU like mad, that mirc could cope with no problem on a shitty old xp machine. ditch that and use bitchx, then we can talk :lol

Also the 3d looks a lot better. I'm not a minimalist OS user because I like my OS not to look like fucking garbage. :)

I know this LCfiner, but a small efficiency difference if better than nothing. Damn, I have some shots on my old HDD showing off the differences in the Activity monitor as well as in temperature. It wasn't earth shattering, but every little bit helped. I would say that the difference was appreciable to me. Knowing all this, I STILL want to vanilla 10.6 as much as I can. If not for appreciable efficiency this time around, then for sheer aesthetics this time around.

I know how resource-heavy colloquy is. Why do you think I trim everything else? :D Seriously though, it's there, it's now rarely used, and I am fully aware. I've used bitchx, but I can't say I'm the biggest fan. I have a ton of other hungry apps, but there isn't much you can do about them, as I kinda need them from time to time. As for the dock being not real 3D, I know this, but I call it a 3D dock because that is what it is known by.

Anyways, I am so happy about the Safari news! GAF will never crash my browser again!

I'm dying here. I NEED MULTICLUTCH.

Without being able to swipe through tabs in Safari, or create and close new tabs and windows with up and down swipes, I'm going crazy.

So crazy I'd contemplate downgrading :( :( :(

I just switched to FireFox until a solution comes out...don't downgrade! DON'T DO IT MAN!

What the hell... I'm not. There were people reporting before that Snow Leopard would be an upgrade disc, that if you want a 'fresh' install, you will still have to reinstall the Leopard first and then this one over it. In fact I still don't know for sure if that is true or not.

Multi-clutch is working fine in FireFox right now for me, so it's safe to assume that it should work in other 32-bit apps.

Edit: I removed and re-added the preference panel...doubt it did anything but I did.

I haven't done any finangling and it works NOWHERE for me. Unless all the apps I'm using have secretly had 64 bit payloads I didn't know about

FireFox has OOTB swipe gesture mappings too, though. You sure it's your multiclutch settings taking effect?

Don't worry, dude. You should be able to get a copy pretty easily. It's just an OS upgrade. It's not a new iPhone release or something like that.

Quick question: are Time Machine backups bootable?

Yeah, I have gestures for reloading, and switching/closing tabs that are all working that normally would not.

It's definitely working for Firefox and Adium right now.

I use the dock on the left. I don't normally view two documents at once, so it only makes sense you'd use of horizontal screen real estate on not the narrower scale.

I prefer the 3D, but having it on the left is more important to me. I use the translucent menu bar because I like to have a near abstract image on the background. Text is a big no-no.

Ah, you were just unlucky picking Liu Kang then. It's in the OP that you can do a clean install... Liu Kang has been telling people to stop since it's been confirmed for a while. There's no real reason to do a clean install though.

The stuff you do seems like it's all a placebo effect. There's pretty much no way you'll notice any real difference from stripping everything.

Run Safari in 32-bit mode if you want MultiClutch. You can't mix and match 64-bit applications with 32-bit plugins. (unless it's run in a separate process, like Flash Player)

They definately work better but still not perfect. I was more refering to the performance overall.

The .gof thing might still be a dealbreaker for me because of my frequent GAF use.

it's actually a little different situation. all input managers are disabled by Apple for 64 bit apps. so it's not a matter of multi clutch needing a 64 bit version input manager to work (if that was even possible).

input managers are dead as far as Apple is concerned.

that's why 1password had to change the way it works entirely for snow leopard. version 3 now uses a sanctioned plug in architecture (like click2flash) to work.

Will iWork '09 and iLife '09 magically become 64 bit with the snow leopard install? Or will that come with the 2010 versions? Not that I care about 32 bit or 64 bit, I'm just curious.

This.

:(

Looks like the guy who made MultiClutch was summarily hired by Apple. He hasn't touched the code since, but it's out on github

Ok question.

Thoughts on base 10 vs. binary?

I figure this is just a metric issue, and thus I side with metric. Simpler, make sense. 200GB = 200,000,000,000 bytes. 0.1% of that is 200,000,000. You know, 200 MB.

Under binary measure (base 2?) 200 GB is 214,748,364,800 bytes. 0.1% is 214,748,364.8 bytes, which is, you know, 204.8 MB.

What.

Anyway, is there a practical use for a binary counting system when computing/programming?

Is it a good thing to switch to metric (standard), or is this just trying to shut up ill-informed customers who claim that their 320GB HDD isn't really 320GB?
