panda21 said:actually how come it says you need the box if you have tiger? is that only if you want to be able to upgrade? surely the $29 disc should be able to do a clean install from tiger, or anything, unless it really is only an upgrade?
giga said:I doubt Apple really is going to check for a 10.5 install on your hard disk if you're using the Upgrade/Up-to-date discs.
Really? Awesome!celebi23 said:The Up-to-Date version, right? I spoke with someone at Apple's customer service (1-800-MY-APPLE). They said that they're just waiting for the systems to update. Tons of orders going through now. She assured me that the Up-to-Date versions will ship alongside the other Snow Leopard versions (8/28)
But then if you had Tiger couldn't you just format and use the $29 one?Ashhong said:the 29$ is to go from Leopard to SL, the $10 is the one you need to be eligible for if you bought your computer after June 8, and the 169$ is the one you need if you have Tiger i believe. I think Apple assumes you know what to buy and lets you figure out if you should buy the 29 or 169
Might not be. I'm assuming they'll be like the discs you get with a new Mac--you can only use them on your Macintosh model.Ashhong said:those Up-to-date discs will be the same as the 29$ ones right?

I'm just too used to software companies trying to screw me over. My experience with iTunes activations doesn't help =[
Flying_Phoenix said:Awesome, thanks Liu Kang. I just have one more question though. If I close Safari and open it back up again, will it load the previous pages I was viewing (much like Camino)?
Because this is the only thing holding me toward Camino now.
The Leopard one isn't model specific.giga said:Might not be. I'm assuming they'll be like the discs you get with a new Mac--you can only use them on your Macintosh model.

Any chance that they will sell Snow Leopard by itself for a lower price later on

it's like saft (if you're familiar with that at all) except it's free and better. they're pretty on the ball with updates.
I couldn't use a Leopard iMac restore disc on a Macbook.pjberri said:The Leopard one isn't model specific.

it's an input manager hack and Apple has disabled all input managers for 64 bit apps. Safari in SL is 64 bit.

Yeah, there was a Leopard upgrade disc that came with Macs (which would come with Tiger installed, and with Tiger, in my case iMac, restore discs) when the OS came out, though. It works on anything and you can even trick it into letting you do a fresh install without installing Tiger first. It also didn't have any of the iLife applications on it.giga said:I couldn't use a Leopard iMac restore disc on a Macbook.
You mean Snow Leopard? Leopard was. My cousin's restore discs were scratched to hell so I tried to use the one my brother's Macbook Pro got and it wouldn't work. Although that might also be because the Macbook's restore disc was 10.5.0 while the Macbook Pro's was 10.5.6.pjberri said:The Leopard one isn't model specific.
It's not a restore disc; it's the equivalent of the up-to-date disc. Here's a photo of mine, excuse the quality:Firestorm said:You mean Snow Leopard? Leopard was. Apple has been installing their hardware off disks since the inception of OSX.rex64 said:CPU Drop-in ???

I guess worst case scenario is that we'll have to manually c/p out of the application![]()

1Password Blog said:1Password 3
When it is officially released (soon-ish-y), 1Password 3 will be fully compatible with and supported on both Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard and 10.5 Leopard. 1Password 3 will not support 10.4 Tiger.
The 1Password 3 beta is currently working on Snow Leopard; we have a lot of beta testers on Snow Leopard and we have been doing development exclusively on it for months now. With that said, remember that the final Snow Leopard release may be different then what we're testing, so don't be surprised if the final release causes turbulence.
Fortunately, private beta testing of 1Password 3 is winding down, so we are slowly starting to open up testing to more people. Snow Leopard users need 1Password 3 the most, so those using 1Password 2 on Snow Leopard will be asked if they would like to beta test 1Password 3. Beta testing for Leopard users will be available shortly.
To recap, 1Password 3 is still in beta so there may still be quirks or a few unpolished buttons, so please let us know if you run into problems. If testing and reporting issues is not your idea of fun, you should wait for the final 1Password 3 release. For those testing, be sure to report issues in the 1Password Early Access forum as everything is still under NDA.

The footprint is 7 gigs smaller? Seriously? Now that is fantastic. I was going to wait until I upgraded my hard drive next month (I'm down to like 1 GB of space, Logic Studio is humongous), but if it's actually smaller I'll just take the plunge this week.

SnakeXs said:Yep. The word is 6-8 gigs. I almost wish SL had built-in PPC code removal from UBs, but I'll take what I can get.
celebi23 said:You can probably just use XSlimmer. It removes the PPC code (and other languages) from UB apps. Been using it since 2006

10.4 = Tiger

I know how you feel. I love the Safari interface but I've been so tempted to switch to FireFox every time I visit GAF. The last time I had to force quit Safari due to animated GIFs I wrote an angry five paragraph diatribe in the Apple Crash Reporter to let the Safari team know that their lack of animated GIF support is embarrassing.LiveFromKyoto said:Enh, not that fantastic. I have a late 2006 iMac (last plastic model) with a 2.16 GHz C2D and 2 GB RAM. Unfortunately, the most RAM my model supports is 3 GB. Anyone know if the extra gig would be useful in SL?
RubxQub said:I do this from time to time. :lol
Sometimes it's a simple "The lack of support for animated GIFs is unacceptable."
Other times I go into longer tirades, but I gotta keep fightin' the fight!
