So it appears that Vancouver will be celebrating St. Patrick's Day the same way everyone does.

By going out, getting hammered, and falling flat on their ass.

Future Olympic Starter Marty Turco will be personally turning out the Canucks tonight. I plan to take three shots per Dallas goal. Here's hoping I don't get alcohol poisoning :(

Frikken Jose Theodore! The most overrated goalie in NHL History. What people see in this guy is beyond me!! He'll probably go down as the only Hart Trophy winner in recent memory to not make the Hockey Hall of Fame.

Can't believe Washington traded Huet for this loser!

Erm... I'd hesitate to call Theodore overrated. People are well aware of how inept he's been since his Hart Trophy.

The only thing Turco will be starting in 2010 is the hotel stove, frying a fresh batch of eggs for his roommate Luongo before warming up his shower towel and ironing his jersey. Can't have Roberto looking rumpled before taking the ice for the gold medal game, can we?

Uh I think Washington really had no choice. Theodore for 2/9 million or Huet for 4/22.4 million. If they signed Huet they wouldn't have enough money for there upcoming RFAs Backstrom (jumping from 2.4 to 5+) and Semen (4.6 to 6.5 +), they also got Fleishmann and Morrisonn as RFAs that year, Theodores contract is good because it expires the same year the cap will go down that year. Plus there is the fact they got Varlamov and two wildcards in Neuvirth and Machesney.

Only thing I know about this guy is his name sounds like a french Final Fantasy spell.

Your little fantasy scenario assumes that Luongo will actually make it on the Olympic Team. Who's to say he won't have already quit hockey because they widened the nets by half an inch? Who's to say he won't have tried to commit suicide by slipping on a greasestain left by his hair? You can only deal with failings for so long before the spirit wanes.

The Canucks streak ends. The Stars Rise.

Huet's a better goalie now, but the Caps couldn't afford a contract like that.

And Theodore was really good when he won his Vezina.
Not sure what happened to him, but I don't think he's overrated much. Most people acknowledge that he's lost whatever he had at his peak. Maybe he only plays well in contract years.

PS: for the sake of my fantasy team, go Crosby/Guerin/Letang!

Honestly I don't know, but they can't go throwing contracts for that long around when there is so much uncertainty about what the cap will be then. The only players who should be signed then are their core players, Ovechkin, Semin, Green and Backstrom.

And yeah I'm a lifelong B.C. boy so Vancouver is it for me. Good memories with my dad taking me to some games, watching them through the 90's, etc.

Moving to Texas to be with the wife sadly, but fuck Dallas still heh.

Versus has Detroit vs Philadelphia! This was always the matchup I'd have in NHL 99, my first hockey video game. I'd always choose Philadelphia, my brother always Detroit. I've had a soft spot for the Flyers ever since.

This reminds me, I probably should invest in a modern day NHL video game...

Same. I don't have a gaming system in my home, but could bring over my PS2 from the parents' place...not sure what game I would get though.

You should btw. The new NHL games are great, and you can probably get one for a decent price used. I've noticed a lot of people mark them up during the playoffs :lol

No shit. I hope the newcomers are thick-skinned, but I was delighted to see some Blue Jackets fans. The more hockey fans, the better.

Congrats to Marty Brodeur on claiming yet another place in history tonight. It was an exciting finish to the game and great to see him seal with kick save into the corner.

Amazing to think back to my elementary school days when he played his first few games, and enjoying so victories and championships since then. Keep it going Marty! Take down the shut out record, bump the all time wins list to 750 or 800 or so, and of course win some more Cups!!

We won. Great game by everyone involved, though Atlanta looked a little tired. Enjoy the victory for 15 minutes, bank the two points and get ready for the next game.

Would have been sweet to see Malkin with the HT on the penalty shot, but the win is more important. Geno still walked away with 2G and 3A.
