Don Nelson resigned as coach of the Mavericks today. Avery Johnson to take over.
I just got home and saw this. Quite a surprise from the timing standpoint, but expected to happen pretty soon anyhow. Nelson's wife has been dealing with some health issues, so it's completely understandable.

It's time, 'Lil General!

Go Avery! I hope he does really well in his new position. Having mentors like Popovich and Nelson have surely made him a very knowledgeable guy.

Celtics win again
they have now won 10 of their last 11
7 in a row
5 straight on the road
Pardon me if I'm totally unimpressed...oh, with the Heat now winning 12 straight overall, and 15 in a row at home. As hot as the Celts may get, they'll be put on ice by The Heat. :D PEACE.

from an article written around the time of the Shaq/Miami trade:

...Chalk up Rudy T’s first big win for the Lakers. It was Tomjanovich, in fact, who made Bryant’s signing a reality by providing the impetus for the Shaq trade, including Odom and not Dwyane Wade in the Heat deal.

Throughout the O’Neal trade talks it appeared the deal would not happen and, as a result, Bryant would leave LA. The three main teams in the talks — the Pacers, Mavericks and Heat — refused to give up key pieces. The Pacers didn’t want to part with Jermaine O’Neal, the Mavericks clung to Dirk Nowitzki and the Heat hoped to protect Wade.

But once Tomjanovich became the clear choice as coach, he pushed for Odom instead of Wade.

that fuckin' drunk trying to sabotage our team. GOod thing we got rid of him when we did!

Dammit Konex, now he's probably going to miss his last 3-4 shots, then shoot FTs and make the first, and the 2nd one will go in and out.

Close, Lebron slipped on a drive to the basket and turned it over in the final 20 secs :lol

PLUS the Cavs will lose this game

Proof #56,856 that the Konex Curse is real :lol

Stevie should be a Laker next season :)

are you on crack? We already have a 2guard. Maybe you've heard of him his name is KOBE?!? anyway, at least the fact that you said it means it'll never happen. Thumbs up, Konex.

WTF....I wake up three hours late, check the box scores, and find that Lebron dropped 56....so random.

Anyways, what happened to Duncan?

Under the Pistons hoop, landed on Sheed's foot and cranked it pretty hard sideways. Grade 2 Strain they said.. Out for a good 4 games at least.

That's a shame. If the Pistons don't Repeat, I'd want the Spurs to win the title.

Piston, I think Stevie could be a great combo guard for the Lakers. Obviously they need a true PG too but having only 2 guys on the roster who can create off the dribble is no good...

Konex also said Brian Grant and Tierre Brown are good players during the offseason.

Don't fall for his lies again, Laker fans!

Francis on the Lakers would just be redundant. There was talk before Mobley was traded by Orlando that the Lakers were trying to attain him. If that was true, he'd be a better fit to play with Kobe. Can slash and get to the basket, but most importantly, a good spot up shooter.

Cloudy, you sir, are insane. Stevie is NOT a combo guard. Nothing about his game is point. He's nothing but a small sized 2. And a bad one at that. I think we need a guard whose idea of playmaking is more than just "Lemme go 1 on 5" like Stevie does. Sure, we need more athletes on this team (thus, guys who can create their own shot) but thats not high on the list of needs. With Kobe (and Odom) dominating the ball, what we need more is good spot up shooters, or guys that can get open w/o the ball.

Yeah, there's only room for one of those guys on the Lakers... :D

It's also amusing that Konex wants Francis despite the fact that, as Piston said, he's not at all a good fit for the Fakers. Just goes to show you that Kobe whores know that he'll never win another ring without either Duncan, KG, or Shaq playing alongside him, or if he's playing with an absolutely loaded team (and Francis, Kobe, and Odom would, in fact, be a loaded team). TSC TSC. :p

Whoa, so Duncan is out? Was it the same ankle that he injured a month or so ago? That sucks-- Spurs were a lock for the title imo. Hopefully he'll be back before the playoffs.

Big game for Lebron. Wow, I didn't think he had it in him-- he's never struck me as a pure scorer in the Kobe/Tmac/AI vein. Impressive.

That's because unlike those three turds, LeBron actively tries to get his teammates involved. When he wants to score, he's going to score.

And tough shit Spurs fans, Duncan's injury is a longtime coming to this lucky franchise. Hopefully, it's a season-ender. We'll see what Pop is really made of now... :lol

It's not a matter of focus, but one of (what I felt were) "skills"/mentality. He's just never struck me as a particularly creative/aggressive scorer in that regard. He proved me wrong.

0-2 since Howard went down

Uh 1-2, and STAY AWAY FROM THE ROCKETS! DONT SPEAK OF THEM! They don't need any more bad luck, stick with your Lakers or else I tell Bionic you were an Ali fan in the early 80s.

What's the matter with Ray Allen? Only played 9 minutes so far and isn't in foul trouble(Late 3rd quater)... Was he injured or what?

Screw the team's record. Let Tim get completely healthy, no matter how many games he has to miss. I don't give a crap about Homecourt Advantage as long as we have Tim at 100%.

And yes, Loki, it was the same damn ankle he injured recently. He wiil miss some games, maybe quite a few, but I think he'll be ready for the postseason.

The Spurs played the Pistons tough, all game long, but Chauncey was too much in the end.
