p.s. yes i'm a bitter old man now!

haha it's unheard of!

Every team right now looks like a million bucks, and everyone has a potential rookie of the year.

Except for the Bengals.

not the bears.. not the raiders.. not the seahawks.. don't worry, you're not alone

All the beat writers are raving about Cobb's quickness. This was my biggest wish out of the draft; I wanted a 1st or 2nd round WR who could bring some speed to our receiving corp. Jennings is "smart" fast...he's not an outright burner...and Jones/Nelson/Driver/Finley certainly aren't. Who knows if the rest pans out with Cobb, but it seems he's got the speed aspect down. Definitely could add yet another dynamic to our offense.

As a Patriots fan I distinctly remember Bethel Johnson. Such a great Madden player.

Your offense is more than fine anyway.

TheLegendary said:
Fair enough...good point old man. But speed is probably one of the only things that actually is even worth discussing with practices in shorts.

Edit: By the way how is Crabtree doing? :)

i guarantee you ted ginn is faster than your rookie. that is how much speed matters in the real world.

p.s. crabtree doing what he does every year: sits out the entire pre-season. still rather have him than DHB tho!

I am pretty pumped about this season. The Giants didn't make a lot of moves but it's fine with me, they were already strong contenders to begin with and I am fully confident we will be back near the top of the NFC again this season. I watched that second Eagles game again this weekend (the miracle at the meadowlands 2) and based on what I saw I like us a lot this year. The team is largely intact and we had a lot of football "bad luck" last year.

The Giants were a walking MASH unit. Through the season, the offensive line saw 8 different groupings as starters. Shaun O'Hara, Rich Seubert, Adam Koets, and Shawn Andrews all missed time at various points of the season causing a lot of issues in pass pro and run blocking. Further, our wide receivers were decimated as the season went on. Steve Smith will start the year on the PUP list, as well as Ramses Barden. In the last game of the season Mario Manningham was the WR that was actually active on opening day. Nicks went down as did Domenik Hixon before the season. Definitely not seeing that kind of football bad luck again.

The Giants were the worst in the league in giveaways with 42 total. An average of 2.6 turnovers per game. That definitely cannot repeat itself, mathematically. They were at 31 the year before, and 13 the year before that. Straight bad luck this past season.

Compound it with an NFC W schedule, as well as additional help in regards to special teams, I am excited my friends. I think we are looking at an 11 win season at the least.

I'm banking on Manningham being insane this year. Nicks is the defacto #1 and teams will scheme to stop him.
I sure hope so! He's my #4 receiver on my autodraft fantasy team.

He has all the leverage against the Jets. They took a gamble with Aso, and they lost. Can't believe the Texans were the smarter team.
Me neither. Neither can anyone in Houston. We were about to start pinching ourselves but.. then Ed Wade reminded us we're still in Houston.

So Giants not going to sign a LB this offseason?
I mentioned it before but I doubt it. Reese has said they have plenty of young players and it's on them to prove everyone wrong about the Giants not having any LB'ers. On one hand, good. Sintim was 2nd rounder. He needs to do put up or shut-up. We've got plenty of younger guys who came via the draft who could be something as well.

On the other hand, it would be nice to get a name on the outside.

Nicks went down as did Domenik Hixon before the season.
I'm actually really excited to get Hixon back. The only punt returner worth a damn we had. Curious to see how things play out with him and Jernigan as training camp goes on.

Veteran left tackle Matt Light has agreed on a 2-year contract with the Patriots, league sources told myself and @shalisemyoung.

WOW Only a two year deal. I'm going to guess that he gave the Pats a home town discount. Anyway good news

42 turnovers is bad luck?

I can't speak intelligently about how good the Giants are or are going to be because I can barely follow football (or even this thread) the way I used to, but this is classic preseason talk that borders on FMT levels of absurdity!

Guys don't let the preseason get to you. Instead of building your own team up (99% of the time this leads to disappointment), it is much better to tear down your rivals instead. This is the bionic77 formula that is guaranteed to increase your football happiness by 500%*, increase the size of your penis, lose your virginity, get you out of your parent's basement and make you rich!

* Rules and conditions apply. The formula is only approved in the United States of America and therefore does not work in the following 3rd world nations: Wisconsin, Ohio, Michigan, California and Massachusetts.

Ugh, Panthers meeting with Derek Anderson tomorrow. Apparently there won't be a workout, just a "discussion." He had his Pro Bowl year under current Panthers offensive coordinator Rob Chudzinksi and probably has familiarity with the system, but I'd still much rather have Bulger or, hell, even Delhomme.

Also, looks like Panthers are also interested in CB Carlos Rogers. That'd be a good pickup. He'd probably be the starting corner opposite Gamble if we sign him.

LeBron loves his girlfriend. There is no other woman in the world he’d rather have. The problem is, Dwyane’s not a woman.

Let's never talk about Ed Wade again. As Houston fans we need to ban his name from our vocabulary.

Did they get Solder signed?

Not yet, but it's only a matter of time before they get all the rookies signed. Looks like Solder isn't ready to start at LT yet. At least according to Ian Rapoport. Whatever the money is on the Light deal it's still awesome. This year he can mentor Solder. Good signing. Can't wait for the season.

Honestly the only picks that surprised me after the Panthers passed was the Bills and maybe the Texans. Why did the Bills go with Dareus?

I get the Texans thinking; stretch the line out at the ends and even mediocre DT's should be able to thrive.

Well I could easily see the Bengals, Vikings, Titans, and Browns also taking him. All of them need another interior pass rusher, who doesn't really.

As for Dareus, the guy played up and down the line, and he's been extremely well coached. Saban used him at every spot, the Bills will do the same. 3 man line, 4 man, whatever, he's already done it at Bama. He feels really comfortable and familiar with everything, "I've done this stuff at Bama." So it's all physical with him, I don't want to hear bullshit about getting the PB down, because he's on record as saying he understands it all.

Bills FO has strong ties to Auburn, but they still went with Dareus. It's just experience and versatility that was probably the determining factor.

Hopefully both players do well, I like them both.

With Beanie Wells healthy I don't mind the Hightower loss. I've always wanted to see what he could do when he got more carries and he definitely will.

I don't know how I feel about losing DRC either. The dude was a solid player and he has crazy speed. I'm not sure if it was worth him and a 2nd round pick but when your back is up against a wall what do ya do.

And the cards only have Fitz left that I even trust can get the job done receiver wise. Doucett has shown signs but Roberts has not proved anything to me. If anything he will always be remembered for that embarrassing fumble in Seattle.

This team is far from reclaiming the division.

edit - and they got Ryan Williams, cant forget that.

I would also being interested in the gaf pay FF league. What do you all think of this 12 team auction draft?

QB Ben Roethlisberger 18
RB Steven Jackson 38
RB LeGarrette Blount 23
RB/WR Matt Forte 25
WR Mike Wallace 30
WR Miles Austin 24
TE Jason Witten 15
D/ST Giants D/ST 1
K Nick Folk 1
BE Mikel Leshoure 10
BE Lance Moore 3
BE Sam Bradford 4
BE Malcom Floyd 4
BE Mike Sims-Walker 2
BE Montario Hardesty 1
BE Chris Ivory 1

I know i'm in the far far far minority of this, but i kind of like the direction of Arizona. I can't explain it and it has no logic behind it. But I just think Kolb will pan out for them with Fitz and Heap bailing him out.

I said earlier I think AZ really improved. Wiz is a good offensive coach who needed a QB. Kolb won't ever be elite, but he can be a good system guy. The NFCW isn't going to be a pushover this season.

Last years steal of the draft was Jacoby Ford, this year it will be RT Joseph Barksdale. Dude has been up against Lamarr Houston in practice and he's holding his own in that match up.

I know everyone said the Bears were gonna suck last year too, but this year, they are actually going to suck. Any possibilities of the new WR's providing any improvement to our piss poor offense is negated by the team's worst-in-the-league O-line that somehow managed to get even worse.

So Greg Jennings tweeted something big is coming and now Aaron Nagler is responding to tweets about Randy Moss. I would assume that is completely out of the question since we re-signed Jones... Right?

While it's not as ridiculous as the $10 million/year number that was getting tossed around, that's still stupid money for Cromartie.

why not??
More reasons: Packers organization is relatively top-down, players don't tweet about roster moves/business decisions. They may lobby but that's about it.

Greg Jennings would never be privy to said information;
if anyone would it would be Rodgers and even he's kept in the dark.

Jennings was just being "self-motivational" about the new season.

Buckethead said:

Still, it would've been classic to see Moss running out of the tunnel in Lambeau sporting green and gold. Fans would be like, "Uh, do we boo, or...?"

I think we would have to retire and burn the #84 jersey if Moss ever sported the Green and Gold.

Then the entire front office would be forced to write Sterling Sharpe an apology letter.

Remember when Randy and Favre wanted to play together and it didn't happen? Which started the whole Favre against Greenbay and the Favre-to Rodgers transition?

Ah, simpler times.

Incredibly Naive
Not trying to be an ass, but doesn't that count as spam/self promotion? Again doesn't bother me, just throwin it out there.

edit- for the record good article, but try and shorten your sentences, there were definitely a few run ons in there.

I.E.

The Panthers not only got a tight end who has averaged roughly 32 receiving yards per game and 10.2 yards per catch for a third rounder, but also got a player who will help draw defenders to the middle of the field, which will surely help Steve Smith, David Gettis and Brandon LaFell stretch the field more often, which will be crucial if the Panthers are to improve upon their abysmal 2010-2011 campaign.

Split this into multiple sentences, this is a HUGE sentence.

I'm worried about the quality of football we're going to get in the first month or two.

There are a LOT of free agents moving to new teams, learning new systems, and everyone is cramming an entire offseason into two weeks. It also seems every time I read a report from a camp there are pulled Hamstrings and ankle injuries.

The Steelers said they want to reload with as many 2010 guys as possible so they don't have to rely on rookies, and I think a few other teams are reassembling the old band (Packers, Giants, Jets..) Anybody think this will be to their advantage? Or will that all be meaningless when the season starts?

I see bad tackling as a big problem. Not only did they have less prep time and have to learn new schemes, they don't get to practice with pads as much as they used to. Sure helps to have an experienced QB and O-line, as well as a core of experienced defenders. I expect skill position players to suck badly. Dropped passes, d-backs who dive head first at nothing, etc.

Damn Cro is signed...was looking forward to seeing him walk. fuuuu

so looks like i was right about the total value being less than Josephs, but wrong about the per year part. meh
