42 turnovers is bad luck?

I can't speak intelligently about how good the Giants are or are going to be because I can barely follow football (or even this thread) the way I used to, but this is classic preseason talk that borders on FMT levels of absurdity!
Yes. Footballs off of receivers hands being ints, seemingly every ball that hit the turf going the other way. I'd say Eli trying to slide and losing the football is also bad luck but he had done it already so it's more bad practice. :|

Does anyone here collect football cards? I'm new to the whole thing but I just bought some stuff off ebay.

I probably shouldn't have. I bought some Julio Jones, AJ Green and Blaine Gabbert rookie cards. Most are auto, and numbered.

ESPN has a TV special this week on some new QB rating formula they've developed. Could be interesting, but trying to bring the stat stuff to football will probably never really work.

AdamSchefter: After G Deuce Litui flunked his physical in Cincinnati for being overweight, he has decided to return to the Cardinals. Big pickup.
Not enough :jncs. Way to set your standards high, Arizona.

I will still remember him for taunting Lofa Tatupu.

"Loooofaaaaa! Looooooofaaaaaaaaa!"

It was on one of those "sounds of the game" videos on NFL Network. Guy seemed really funny. I often wonder though at how much trouble some linemen have with weight.

So happy cro is locked up and didn't have to break the bank. Now jets need to resign Sean Ellis and get back to work!

You can have bad luck in a quarter or a game but over the course of an entire season? That is hard to believe. That is harder for to believe than Eli being the father of his wife's baby.

Seems more likely that the Giants just do not take care of the ball and are a turnover prone team.

At least we dont have to figure in MattMillendumasscommentsandethnicslurs anymore

Got Cro back, and he didn't hold the Jets over a barrel...love it.

Now, let's get Ellis back, lock up David Harris, and see what we can do with S and DE.

Eagle fans on various NFC East message boards already throwing around the WE ALREADY WON business.
Well the offseason is young but it does seem inevitable that they stole the offseason championship from the Redskins.

If they can hold onto to the offseason championship the question will then become if they can pull off the very rare back to back of winning both the offseaon and regular season trophies.

Wildcard berths that can't beat teams without a winning record should have homefield advantage

Of course they are. Who would have expected anything else?

It will be fun watching Andy Reid "clock manage" the Eagles right out of the playoffs this year and the subsequent meltdowns.

At least the "we already won" thing was somewhat more justified in the NBA, where winning a championship is far less subject to luck and hot streaks because of the 7-game playoff series format.

Teams like that .500 St. Louis Cardinals team and wild card teams that barely slip into the playoffs (like last year's Packers) do not win NBA titles.

All it takes is one "Bad Vick" performance against a quality team for the Eagles to be sitting on their asses at home. Plus let's not forget that they're still coached by the worst "good" coach in the league.

That's a shame, and they should know better than to get their hopes up with this franchise.

Nothing wrong with being cautiously optimistic though, and I'd say most rational Eagle fans err towards that side of things. All fanbases have their idiots.

http://espn.go.com/blog/nfcwest/post/_/id/41811/how-to-identify-nfls-best-quarterbacks

I've seen an outline for the rating system breaking down 2010 quarterbacks into six general categories, from top tier to poor. Precise rating numbers were not yet available. The quarterbacks under consideration broke down as follows:

Top tier: Brady, Peyton Manning, Matt Ryan, Michael Vick, Aaron Rodgers and Drew Brees.

Well above average: Josh Freeman, Eli Manning and Philip Rivers.

Above average: Ben Roethlisberger, Tony Romo, Joe Flacco, Matt Schaub, David Garrard and Kerry Collins.

Around average: Matt Cassel, Ryan Fitzpatrick, Mark Sanchez, Carson Palmer, Colt McCoy, Kyle Orton and Jon Kitna.

Below average: Shaun Hill, Jason Campbell, Jay Cutler, Matt Hasselbeck, Chad Henne, Donovan McNabb, Sam Bradford and Alex Smith.

Poor: Derek Anderon, Brett Favre and Jimmy Clausen.

Really though, shows how stupid stats can be. The top and bottom are easy to figure out. The existing rating does just fine on that already.

But the middle tiers are all sorts of messed up. Simple Ben, David Garrard, and Kerry Collins are all the same tier?

With the exception of Vick in the top tier, I endorse this list.

Actually, there was another reason why I didn't post last year. And it had nothing to do with Dallas' performance >.>

Well as long as you're just doing it for fun and really didn't spend to much then I don't see any harm, but if you are trying to invest and make a buck you'll probably be out of luck card market is really fritz and declining and making any sort of decent profit is rarer then Tammy Brady having a manly moment.

pretty much anything will rank Sanchez over Henne. Or anyone over Henne.

Leave the lolphins alone, haven't they suffered enough?

I have to think that INTs are weighted heavily in this equation, which would put Ryan (9 ints last year) and Vick (6 ints last year) in the top tier. But then, how good was Eli who is in the next tier with **25** ints last year?? Maybe the TD count? Eli had the 4th most TDs in the league last year. He was also 5th in yardage, all while being 12th in attempts/game.

That lead us to (who knows) where, who knows where?
But I'm strong, strong enough to carry him - yeah
He ain't heavy - he's my brother

So long we go, his welfare is my concern
no burdon is he to bear, we'll get there
But I know he would not encumber me
He ain't heavy - he's my brother

If I'm leaving at all, if I'm leaving with sadness
that everyone's heart isn't filled with the gladness
of love for one another.

It's a long, long road, from which there is no return
While we're on the way to there, why not share?
And the long doesn't way me down at all
He ain't heavy - he's my brother"

Compare those tiers to FO's DYAR and laugh at ESPN. Seriously.

maybe it takes into account all stats.

Yeah it accounts for everything a QB does besides handing off. So a scramble on 3rd down gets "points". Whatever. I agree with the notion that the QB rating is worthless. But football isn't like other sports.

For instance, when the Texans were in their first couple expansion seasons, opposing offenses didn't put up big numbers on them. Not b/c they Texans had a good defense, but b/c the offense was so bad, the only way they could score was off of turnovers (they beat the Steelers one year with 47 yds total offense b/c Tommy Maddox had a really bad game). So teams just went really conservative against them. So a QB executing his gameplan puts up bad numbers in that situation, even though he's doing his job quite well.

Brees had 22 ints for 33 Tds, yet is still in the top tier. Seems yards is the most important stat - it's the only thing the top guys share.

I'm worried about the quality of football we're going to get in the first month or two.

There are a LOT of free agents moving to new teams, learning new systems, and everyone is cramming an entire offseason into two weeks. It also seems every time I read a report from a camp there are pulled Hamstrings and ankle injuries.

The Steelers said they want to reload with as many 2010 guys as possible so they don't have to rely on rookies, and I think a few other teams are reassembling the old band (Packers, Giants, Jets..) Anybody think this will be to their advantage? Or will that all be meaningless when the season starts?

Yeah, I'd say the first month is probably going to be ragged, to put it kindly. Not just the players catching up, but you've got new rules and the new replay of every score thing going on too. It could be a sloppy month of ball until things settle in. I don't even want to think about the preseason games....they could be even worse than usual, if that's possible.

Then where is Rivers? Weird.

That throwing stick stunt of yours has boomeranged on us.
maybe considers win/loss as well. A pick 6 maybe hurts the rating more than a simple pick...

Heads up Philly fans: 610 WIP is about to play the Jerry Jones WTF they got Nnamdi clip in a few minutes. Listening in Atlanta, so I can't tape it. How could I tape it over an internet connection?

Osi's agent has been granted the ability to seek a trade by the Giants.

EDIT: Further confirmation:

TomRock_Newsday (Beat Writer / Columnist) I can confirm that the Giants have granted permission for Osi Umenyiora to seek out a trade.
