When it comes to sure thing first ballot im really curious what the HOF votes think is now adays after whats happened over the past few years.

The Osi situation is getting uglier. Dottino posted up some recent commentary from his sources:

Paul Dottino of WFAN is reporting that the New York Giants and Osi Umenyiora appear to be at a contract impasse and that the defensive end believes he will "never play another down" with Big Blue.

Umenyiora is demanding to be paid like a top-5 NFL defensive end, and the Giants refuse to budge on his demands. On the other side of the coin, Osi has "dug in" and is prepared to ride this entire thing out until the bitter end.

The team is absolutely insisting on receiving at least a first-round pick in exchange for Umenyiora, but as of now, there appear to be no takers. As a result, Osi will continue to show up at Giants training camp to avoid being fined for a holdout, but will not participate or play in any upcoming preseason games.

The market for a 30-year-old DE with chronic hip problems is expectedly thin, especially at the first-round asking price, so this mess could essentially get even more ugly than currently it is. Dottino described its potential as an "active retirement' where Osi shows up, rides a bike and does absolutely nothing else. But is it possible for this to last throughout the duration of Osi's contract? He's signed with the team through the 2012 season.

Even if the Giants wanted to pay Osi like a top-5 defensive end, they are in no financial shape to live up to such a contract.

It's worth noting that Osi also said he'd never speak to General Manager Jerry Reese "ever again," but promptly had a sit down meeting less than 24 hours after that proclamation.
Oh Osi. Should be fun to see who blinks first.

Tom threw only 14 less TD's last year basically without Moss

Yeah, some of Tom's throws were just downright irresponsible, had Randy not been the receiver who basically took them away from the defenders.

This is actually hilarious. The Giants refuse to pay him top money, but at the same time demand a 1st round draft pick for him? :jnc Way to be contradict yourself.

Happy they were able to retain Bradshaw. Curious on the deal.

Next is Smith and TE. Whether Boss or not, I rather them look into Zach Miller. I'm surprised he hasn't gotten more looks in FA.

They know his age, and he won't be a starter for long enough because they have JPP waiting in the wings. Why not attempt to get as much as you can via trade?

While they could offer a lucrative 2-year deal, why would Osi want to accept that?

That throwing stick stunt of yours has boomeranged on us.

I don't know, when you're starting at 50, 14 less doesn't seem that much...

I cannot believe someone is arguing against Moss being a 1st-ballot Hall of Famer. Never thought I'd see the day.

Same thing is going to happen when Manning and Brady retire. Someone will argue they ain't first ballot. In every sport this happens.

I will fight for Manning's honor. ManBoyBrady, not so much. ;)

uhh, yeah no. At least not anybody sane. WRs seem to always get this treatment, especially guys like Moss and TO with attitude issues. Harder for them to get in. Both guys will eventually be in IMO though.

You really think so? When they were at least among the top 5 at their position for every year they started (weren't they), won several SBs, hold several all time records and so on? Will be hard for the haters to persuade anyone but Bionic77...

Bionic will probably say Charlie Batch should get in before Brady.

There is always one writer that has to be an attention whore, always. In related news Peyton's LT has signed with the Vikings.

With the disclaimer that I have watched football only from the mid-80s, I can safely say Moss is the best player I have ever seen, Montana, Marino, Manning, Rice, Reggie White, Sanders (either of them) included. I believe he had more talent than anyone else who has ever played the game. I can understand his mental problems, which makes the fact that he didn't live up to his potential (which is saying something) probably sadder than people who just think he's a selfish nutcase.

A truly once-in-a-lifetime talent.

So I don't know much about him. Is he washed up? Is this a "we can tell McKinnie to get fucked" signing or is he going to be a utility guy?

TO is definitely one of the best, but him and Moss are on 2 different levels.

TO is a lot more versatile than Moss ever was.

I don't understand why Tom Brady seems to be the unanimous MVP at this point. For the past seven seasons, Brady has been an efficient QB who rises in the clutch. He has never had great numbers but is a great leader and the number one guy you'd want out there in dire situations.

Enter Randy Moss. Now Tom Brady is set to shatter every record and the Patriots are scoring 41 points a game. The biggest change this year is the addition of Moss. Doesn't that prove he is the main reason the Patriots have become unbeatable? If you take away Moss, Brady might actually be mortal again.

Very true. Moss was basically just a fade/deep guy, but he was amazing at it. TO would go over the middle and could run block.

I'm not really sure, Colts fans reaction should tell us though. I get the feeling he looks better than he is because of Peyton. I know he can play multiple positions though.

Sounds like they wanted to resign him but he wanted too much money.

He's pretty young and from what I understand he's a nice player. I followed his career fairly closely because he played at my alma mater (Oklahoma State). He filled in for the injured o-lineman (right tackle iirc) when the Colts won the Super Bowl, and has been a fixture on their line ever since.

He played freaking tight end at OSU... Smh. Les Miles really knows to utilize his talent.

Moss is a first ballot hall of famer.. point blank.. no arguments. and he graced the cover of NFL 2k .. that alone brings him to HOF status

lots of people liked to say that Brady was a QB that never had great numbers, but twice prior to Moss he led the league in total yards passing. And they added Wes Welker the same offseason as Moss didn't they?

Randy Moss should be a first ballot hall of famer no questions asked.

I think anyone who thinks he is a lock is crazy. A ton of writers dislike him for various reasons, a few of them legitimate and the overwhelming of them completely asinine.

There are definitely enough writers out there who will not vote guys into the hall for various reasons. He'll get in eventually but I don't think it'll be first ballot. TO is the guy who will never get in.

I think it's all moot though because I'm not buying that Randy is really retired.

Then he showed he was serious by going on the cover of 2k1 and 2k2. Absolute beast.

You made the same arguments 4 years ago. Fantastic!

2007 Brady: 4806 yards, 50 TDs

His second best yardage in a season came in 2005, when he had 4110.
His second best touchdowns in a season came last year, when had 36.

That year with Moss was unbelievable. I still think Randy was the MVP.

that doesn't really dispute what I say does it? I'm not saying that arguing for Randy as MVP doesn't have merit, but you can't really use the arguments you were using. Especially the one claiming that Randy was the only major change to the offense that year.

Brady's numbers rose to a crazy place with the addition of Moss. When Moss started to fade, they went back to normalcy. Yes, they added Welker in 2007 as well, though Brady hasn't sustained his unbelievable pace with him.

Meanwhile, Moss has been the main offensive threat on the two highest-scoring offenses in history. Praise the QBs!

I guess this is what happens when you have so much money wrapped up in a handful of players, but Im worried about my Colts.

Offensive: The OL is in shambles. Saturday and Diem are on their last leg, and the rest is rubbish and a few rookies. Forget depth, they dont even have the starting line right now. Wayne is a year older, Garcon struggled for the first 10 games or so pretty badly, Collie had some nasty concussions last year, Clark and Gonzo are coming off injuries, and of course, the key, Peyton Manning, is ALSO coming off injury. Behind him.... still Curtis Painter. As a Colts fan, I hope I bear no witness to any era that begins with the words "Curtis Painter".

Defensive: The DT position has not been addressed in the slightest... again, as per usual. Freeney and Mathis are there, but getting a little older. Hughes has the faint smell of bust on him and they haven't resigned Dawson. The LB CORP will have 2 first year starters in Angerer and Conner. Our secondary will have Bethea, Bullitt, Powers, Tryon, and Lacey, but not much after that.

And the biggest kick in the junk... Jim Caldwell is still head coach. (Yes, Im still bitter at him losing the Jacksonville game, and then making the same mistake, the exact same one, in the playoff lost against the Jets. You know, the one where Peyton looked like he was going to punch someone in the face....)

All that, and all the other AFC South teams will be better IMO this year.

Sinorice Moss.
Let me add to that: LOL.

Amusingly, David Carr and Sinorice actually had some pretty decent chemistry when he had the opportunity to come in and play.

Aaron Ross is unwilling to play Safety this year according a Garafolo report.

http://www.nj.com/giants/index.ssf/2011/08/giants_cb_aaron_ross_im_not_wi.html

"I'm not willing to do safety anymore," Ross said. "Wouldn't entertain it."

I hope he realized he'll end up 4th on the depth chart behind Prince when gets into camp. I hope he can entertain time on the bench.

He was serviceable at LT, better than anything else we had on the roster last year. I think he would fare better at Guard though. Any idea on how they plan to use him?

Slo said:

Serviceable, borderline good. We had him at every position on the line at some point it seemed, so he never really had time to get to comfortable, but I always thought considering that, he did an okay job. Once he kinda got locked into the LT position, I thought he played well. Not much of a rush blocker though. Colts fans seem to vary on him quite a bit, but I liked him well enough. Not great, not terrible. I was up for keeping him, but not if it was going to cost the Colts a lot.
