Solder just signed with the Pats.
....and there was one. Prince had best sign by the end of the day and get his ass in camp.

Yeah, bit of a heist going on there. I supposed the FO had already decided to move on from O'Hara and wanted to lockup that center position for years to come. I was definitely surprised by the number. We'll see he can justify it in the years to come. I have faith in Flaherty (our offensive line coach) coaching him up and getting him off to a good start.

I feel bad for John Fox.

Here's the list of QB's he's had the past four years:

Jake Delhomme (Post-Tommy John)
David Carr
Vinny Testaverde (Old)
Matt Moore
Jimmy Clausen (Rookie)
Brian St. Pierre
Luke McCown
Tony Pike (Rookie)
Tim Tebow (Rookie)
Brady Quinn
and Kyle Orton.

The rest of the list makes Orton look like a future Hall-of-Famer.

Not even going to click on it but I have learned that Skip is a moron. He was complaining on Monday that the Eagles improved but they rely too much on Vick so they won't be better than last year meanwhile completely ignoring the fact that the major additions were all on defense which should help Vick more than anything else.

He knows very little and whatever opinion he forms he sticks to, repeats all the time, and anytime it is validated he goes nuts about how smart he is. He still keeps going on and on about how ASO isn't that good.

Sucks. I really want a strong rotation at DE and not just rely on Cole to generate the pressure.

Didn't John Fox have significant player personnel authority with Carolina?

Yeah what is the word on Graham from camp anyway. He didn't show much at all last year and now will have to beat out Cole and Babin for playing time. I fear he is going to be another DE bust.

He had microfracture surgery in Dec. It usually take a full 12 months to get back from that. I highly doubt he plays this year, but they have a ton of DE depth even without him.

Darryl Tapp came on strong the end of last year. with him and Babin im not overly concerned

That's the sad part.

For all of his defensive expertise(the man would probably be one of the best DC's in the league), he had/has no idea how to handle QB's.

His future in Carolina was fucked when he stuck with Delhomme two years too long, and it all went downhill after that.
Granted, how was he supposed to know that David Carr would suck even with an actual O-line.

One source familiar with talks said CBA calls for HGH testing. It must be implemented by the first game - first time ever for HGH testing.

If this is true, how many players do you think will get suspended? It seems like the number will be absurdly high, since players won't even be prepared for the testing.

Suspended? Not many. Caught? 40%

Mays is good, and I hope we can actually get something half decent for him. He's big for a safety, and he's damn fast. Unfortunately he was a product of Singletary's idiocy last year, and should never have been thrown to the wolves.

As a result we found out we have a much better option in Reggie Smith, who's also young, who I'd rather they go with.

What could you even get for Mays? A 7th rounder? Maybe?

For argument's sake, lets say they could get a 5th round pick. Why would the Niners send a mass email trying to trade a second year player for such a paltry return? Such illogical maneuvering makes me sad.

Why would we try and trade a safety in his 2nd year?

He was good in 3 games last year, and was bad in the other 5 he started. He showed potential and flashed his athleticism. We need to give him at least another year.

Does anyone know how to get NFL Gamepass while living in the USA?

Please PM if you have any ideas. This is exactly what I need and its bullshit you can't subscribe in the US.

Any idea if you can use a foreign credit card to sign up for it and then watch it in the U.S.?

On again, off again. On again.

Did't see this coming: Giants re-sign DT Rocky Bernard and waive/injured DT Martin Parker. Bernard was cut after not taking pay cut.

Good. Bernard played far better last year than he did in '09 but was getting paid far too much money to be a rotational player so I was hoping they'd cut him. They tried to restructure with him, which didn't work so that's exactly what happened. Now he's back at the cheaper price tag. Good DT depth to have just in case.

I asked about it earlier and did a few searches but it seems to be a pain to get it done. I'd love to have it here in the US. I'd happily pay for it!

Why the hell can't we just have something like that in the US?!

Because it would make too much sense.

I want to be able to cancel my cable plan and still watch sports, football is the only thing holding me back.

I still laugh that Rodgers is the second coming of Montana and that McCarthy installed a Bill Walsh style offense in Green Bay.

Poor FMT.

its just facts

Yeah, you're right, Manning chokes in big games, sucks come playoff time, doesn't have as many rings as Brady, blah blah blah.

Oh wait! Maybe the rest of his team has something to do with those heart-wrenching losses?

Manning is second (to Rodgers in a MUCH smaller sample size) in yards per drive in the playoffs
Manning has averaged more points per drive than Brady in the playoffs
Manning has averaged fewer 3 and outs than Brady in the playoffs

Manning is 6th best in fewest punts per drive in the playoffs
He is 7th best in fewest turnovers per drive (just a fraction behind Brady in 5th)
He has the 7th fewest drives per game
He also has the WORST STARTING FIELD POSITION OF ANY QB IN THE PLAYOFFS SINCE 1980. Just under 40% of Manning playoff drives started inside the 20 yardline.

Manning and Moon had the worst starting field position of these 24 quarterbacks. Aikman and Roethlisberger? Some of the best starting field position. Would the Colts and Oilers have won more games if they could get more stops on defense to get the ball back to their offense and in better field position? It would seem so, but in the cases of Steve McNair andRandall Cunningham, that would appear to be no guarantee.

I have seen people say the Colts only scored 17 points in their playoff losses in 2008 and 2009. Looking at this clears that up. The worst field position in any of the 314 games I looked at belongs to Peyton Manning's Colts in the 2008 Wild Card game at San Diego, where they had to start at the 15.67 on average. The Colts did manage to score 17 points that day. The second worst game also belongs to the Colts, and it is the big one: Super Bowl 44 last year (16.63 was their average start). They scored 17 points in that one as well. Steve Young's 16.70 game against the Packers in the 1997 NFC Championship is the third worst game, and the 49ers scored 3 points on offense that day. Touchdowns are harder to come by when the field ahead of you is so long. In the games I looked at there were 1080 drives started at least 80 yards away from the end zone, and only 182 (16.9%) ended in a touchdown.

Consider that later in the piece, we find out that Manning has the second longest average TD drive in the playoffs (more than 70 yards). Roethlisberger? 4th shortest (less than 60 yards). Brady? just over 60 yards. Manning has only had one touchdown drive under 40 yards in his playoff career. Roethlisberger and Brady have had 8 each.

Still not enough? What about Manning retaining more of his regular season stats in the playoffs, compared to Brady, Roethlisberger, or Favre?

Compared to his regular-season numbers, Roethlisberger's performance in the playoffs isn't good. It's right in line with Tom Brady and Brett Favre, each of whom see their performance drop in one category or another. Manning actually retains more of his regular-season performance during the playoffs than any of the three, while -- incredibly -- Kurt Warner actually put up better numbers in the playoffs than he did during the regular season!

Probably still not enough for you. How about the fact that the Colts O-line has been horrendous, yet Manning is still the best at getting rid of the ball?

How do you explain a team with its tackles grading out at a combined -23.3 in pass protection finishing No. 1? Peyton Manning, that’s how. His ability to get rid of the ball before pressure can get to him is second to none, with just 7.52% of all pressure resulting in sacks. Couple that with not needing backs and tight ends to stay in, and you have our top ranked unit for the second year in a row.
Pressure Per Play Rank: 2nd
Sack % of Pressure Rank: 2nd
Average Number of Blockers Per Play Rank: 2nd

Maybe you don't like PFF, but they conclude that Manning has been the best QB for the past three years:

1. Peyton Manning, Indianapolis Colts
It will surprise no one that our top ranked passer over the past three years is the great Peyton Manning. He was top of the rankings in 2008 and 2009, and finished second in 2010. Without him, it’s hard to imagine what the Colts would do, especially when you consider the state of his offensive line. He’ll give up a few interceptions, but nobody wins more games for their team.
Grade: +190.4

We shudder to think what the Colts would be without Peyton. What are the Pats without Brady? 11-5.

Football Outsiders helps us cut through the "bu-bu-bu" crap:

We lose sight of just how amazing Manning’s accomplishments are because we are living through them, we enjoy laughing at his infrequent slipups, and his consistency makes us take what he does for granted. The last five seasons have been variations on a 4,000-yard, 30-touchdown, 15-interception theme, with his team winning at least 10 games and reaching the playoffs every year. Even for the great quarterbacks in history, a five-year run of playoff appearances, statistical excellence, and perennial Pro Bowl berths would be the centerpiece of a career. While this five-year run does include Manning’s two Super Bowl appearances, it comes after two MVP awards, a record-breaking 49-touchdown season, two passing yardage crowns, a 14-2 season, a 13-3 season, and two 12-4 seasons. If Peyton Manning’s career had started in 2006 -– if everything before that happened in the USFL -– he would be a Hall of Famer and one of the 15 or so best quarterbacks in history (his record would be similar to Steve Young’s in many ways). But his career started in 1998, and that’s why he is arguably the greatest quarterback ever, and unquestionably one of the top five.

There’s a reflexive need to argue against Manning’s greatness, and I noticed it when looking through the message boards in the last few weeks when some of you were anticipating this Colts list. For Manning, we have amazing stats, wins, and longevity. Leadership that in any other era would be universally lauded. Uniqueness and durability at a position where a missed game is potentially a disaster. We toss them all away and point to a handful of playoff losses. The problem isn’t bad here at Football Outsiders, where you guys really delve into the evidence and come away with measured conclusions. In other places, it is pathologically nutty, and some of them aren't even Patriots fansites.

While doing this project, I have spent hours and hours staring at quarterback records: the stat lines, their playoff records, John Maxymuk’s Quarterback Abstract, old encyclopedias, game logs. I had to study Steve Young and Joe Montana, all the Cowboys greats, the 1950s legends and AFL guys. There is nothing, absolutely nothing, in any of the records like Manning’s body of work over the last decade. There is no run of 12-4 seasons and statistical dominance that lasts anywhere near as long, period. Terry Bradshaw and Tom Brady cannot touch it. John Elway does not come close. Neither does Dan Marino, who had a lot of great statistical years for 8-8 teams. Joe Montana has something more checkered, although it is brilliant enough that it is arguably greater. Unitas has 1957-60 and several punctuation marks, so he has a case. Brett Favre has his four-year run and lots of (very good) stuffing. Otto Graham has something that looks better if you can stomach AAFC statistics. But really, Manning’s statistical record is completely on its own, and to write it all off is to write this whole decade off.

But hey, don't take my word for it:

Everything.
To me, he's the greatest of all-time.
What he's accomplished and the way that he studies, the way he prepares. He's really got a killer instinct too. I've been fortunate to be around him on a lot of occasions and we always hit it off; we have a great relationship and he's a friend of mine and someone that I always watch and admire because he always wants to improve, he always wants to get better and he doesn't settle for anything less than the best.
So when you watch the best and you're able to learn from the best, hopefully that helps me get better.

Its season ticket on computer. You dont need direct tv to get it. Its just ridiculiusly priced and you have to convince direct tv that you cant afford theyre 70 bucks a month minimum service.

So would you just sign up for the Sunday Ticket To-Go to stream the content from a computer? For $9.99 a month that's worth my money with the possible lack of streaming options.

Or do you have to sign up for the whole $350+50 to use both?

Wait a minute. I can get Sunday Ticket from DirectTV without subscribing to DirectTV?

I don't care about the price really its the fact that I can't get satellite where I live currently and just want to be able to watch football on the computer in HD since my pc is hooked up to my bigscreen.

39.99 doesn't seem to crazy, it's more an issue how long a game takes to appear. Truthfully it's kind of hard to watch a full game once it's ended and you (more than likely) find out the score.
