Did he just have an off year? He looked terrible in the Playoffs.

I dont care if he had an off season.

The Internet said:John Muckler kicked to the curb!
Sources say a key factor in Muckler's demise was the inability to get winger Gary Roberts from Florida at the trade deadline in March -- defying specific instructions from Melnyk to do so.
In the end, the Senators refused to give up the No. 1 pick and instead picked up Oleg Saprykin from the Phoenix Coyotes.
An NHL source said yesterday Melnyk summoned Muckler to a meeting in New York a few days after the trade deadline. Muckler was asked to explain why the club didn't get Roberts and "was put on notice then."

Murray the new G.M.

Manics said:JFJ is a neo-GM in the new NHL. He's got a master plan and is sticking to it. Old farts like Muckler don't have a clue what it takes to be successful.
MrToughPants said::lol Gary Roberts?

GSG Flash said:I'm interested to see where this goes, I can't wait till they announce the new coach, I just hope it's not one of our assistants.
Sens should be due for a 2003 Ducks type draft now.
djkimothy said:Gar!!! Hitchcock is already signed, yes?
I'm not sure who else is out there. I'm thankful that Keenan is out of the market.
But I can't wait 3 years for a Cup. :/

Something Big and Surprising May Be Happening soon...
Today @ 2:16 PM ET
Stay tuned...sorry for the vagueness! I will tell you if it will or won't happen...it involves one team from each conference.
djkimothy said:Maybe he should change that plan...
:lol I did kind of miss having this around.Manics said:Foundations need to be built before the dream of a dynasty can be realized. People who built their houses on shaky foundations soon see the walls and roof cave in on them, like the Senators. Once JFJ completes the foundation building on the Leafs, the future will be bright for another true NHL dynasty.

Who is worse?
JFJ or Clarke/
Might happen sooner. Don't see the Sens:djkimothy said:But I can't wait 3 years for a Cup. :/
.. Ray Ferraro, who should know, tells Team 1040 that Brett Hull's short-lived career as a hockey analyst with NBC is over ...
Edit: Whitney is up for contract this offseason. If Kimmo is 6.2 per season, and Whitney outscored him, i'm sure he is going to get a 4 mil per year deal easily...
At 73 years of age John Muckler has no intention of calling it quits.
With over 50 years of professional hockey experience that boasts five Stanley Cup championships he wants to go out on his own terms and losing his job as general manager of the Ottawa Senators is not how he envisioned his career would end.
Although possible, its unlikely Muckler will get offered another managers post, but his wealth of knowledge and time invested in the game carries great value.
The Toronto Maple Leafs are believed to be quietly searching for a senior hockey presence. A veteran hockey man Leafs general manager John Ferguson, among others, will be able to lean on for guidance. The position remains just a concept, but already the names of highly decorated candidates such as Scotty Bowman have surfaced.
John Muckler's name will be on the Maple Leafs list and Muckler will have interest in investigating what this newly created position entails. However, a source close to the Maple Leafs says the team hasn't signed off on when, or if they will move forward with this plan.
The source added, 'it all depends on whether they find the right fit.'
