Toskala is my hero!

Vesa has really picked it up. Raised his save % to .902 now. Guy's been unbelievable the last little while. I'll have to do some digging to see if John had a pep talk with him recently. Probably told him to relax, not think about anything but stopping the puck.

From Strickland on hockeybuzz...

You can also expect to hear an announcement from the NHL that either ESPN or ESPN 2 will replace NBC and begin televising games next season. Sources tell me that the news is looking very positive for ESPN.

The biggest thing for ESPN is that they once again are televising the Stanley Cup playoffs and more importantly the finals.

Get used to it. Their collapse is under way sooner than usual.

At least they like to keep it fresh, put those slides down the standings at different times each year to keep us fans on our toes.

They'll be fine. This team can and will bounce back, and I don't think they need to go threw a 3 month slide again before they do.

Patience, it's a long season.

Steve Downie makes his comeback tonight! I pray for the Wild and their fanbase.

nhl2night back plz

NHL2night is not going to be nearly as affective as it was back in the day since the NHL network is up and going. I'm glad that VERSUS didn't lose their coverage, as I actually like them better then ESPN. They actually give attention to hockey, while ESPN used to not give two craps, and would rather show other sports highlights during the intermissions...

ESPN will hype the shit out of anything and everything if they (or ABC) are showing it.

And for the life of me I'll never understand why people continue to support the Versus debacle. Is the studio team better? Sure. Does a sport get more popular because of a studio team or because people can actually watch it with ease? (Hint: the NFL has had garbage gametime color commentary for years.)

I hope the NHL gets more respect again once this deal happens. It sucks that I only know 3 Devils fan in real life. It also has to do with my area being 96.5% hispanic but still.

The only knock on Versus is that they don't have the mainstream access that other channels such as ESPN have had prior. Other then that, their coverage, analysis and highlights are superior to anything that was on ESPN prior. They are doing a good job with relatively little experience before. But I have Center Ice every season, so frankly I don't really give a crap who gets the coverage, just as long as I get to see my Pens for 81 games a season + playoffs if they make it (I lose 1 game a season because of my proximity to Phoenix where they black it out for me)

There's also no association between the network and the sport. I've had Versus for months now and I rarely even think to flip over to it at night to catch a game. Even if it had better market penetration people still wouldn't be watching it because its marketing is awful.

ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) -- NHL playoffs MVP Scott Niedermayer will rejoin the Anaheim Ducks and delay his retirement.

The Ducks called a 9:30 p.m. EST news conference Wednesday "regarding the playing status of Scott Niedermayer." A person familiar with Niedermayer's situation said it would be announced that he's going to play again. The person requested anonymity because the announcement had not been made.

The 34-year-old defenseman had taken time off to decide whether he wanted to retire.

Another star in the Ducks' drive to their first Stanley Cup championship last season, 37-year-old Teemu Selanne, also hasn't played this year and hasn't said whether he will play or retire. Unlike Niedermayer, Selanne is a free agent.

Ducks general manager Brian Burke and the rest of the team's management apparently were not disturbed that Niedermayer and Selanne took the time off. The Ducks, however, got off to a slow start in their defense of the Stanley Cup and were third in the Pacific Division with a 12-12-4 record heading into Wednesday night's game against Buffalo.

Niedermayer hoisted the Stanley Cup for the fourth time in June and won his first Conn Smythe Trophy as the playoffs MVP. He previously played on three Cup champions with New Jersey before coming to Anaheim in 2005, when he joined his brother Rob on the Ducks.

Scott won the Norris Trophy as the league's top defenseman for the 2003-04 season when he was with the Devils.

When this season began, he had two years and $13.5 million remaining on his contract. According to league rules, the Ducks suspended him without pay because he did not report to training camp.

When he and Selanne were on hand for the unveiling of the team's Stanley Cup championship banner early this season, the fans chanted, "One More Year!"

He's a real Canadian hero too.

If Nash read that, he'd power check you into the net - skate one around the rink to grab a Canadian flag and toss it over your crying quivering body.

He'd then look deep into your eyes and speak:

"RICK NASH - REAL CANADIAN HERO. GET IT RIGHT."

The lack of capitals truly disturbs him.

Only San Jose could have no penalties against them the entire game, to then have a 3 on 5 situation in the last 3 minutes of the game with only a 1 goal lead.

No wonder they suck at home. All the fans are dying from stress.

YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!

Pens take the lead.

The only thing that makes this worse is the multitude of Pens fans that are going to be posting after me.

:lol

EDIT: 2 goal lead now lol.

As shitty as the Flames have been and as pissed as that has been making me... this game helps the healing process. Not only are the Greasers coughing up a damn fine 3rd period hairball on national TV but they get to listen to McGuire fellate Sid the entire time. :lol
