I'm enjoying it so far. Can't really put that much time into it with school/work but I'll be able to sit down on the weekends. Also, no real complaints so far other than he RUNS LIKE HE HAS A DICK US HIS ASS! ( no I don't know what that really looks like, but I can guess ).

Played a little more this morning. Got to the part where you watch the Council's first discussion. The one thing I didn't like is
how they made it blatantly obvious that head Councilman Gongora is part of the main conspiracy/enemy force/etc. Perhaps I'm wrong, but I thought they could have hid that a bit better. If there's going to be political intrigue/turmoil, then I'd rather be blindsided than having my hand held through it
.

Am I the only person who thinks Jensen is annoying as all hell? Most of his lines are good, but delivered awfully. Seriously, the scene where he is drunk was embarrassing as hell with my girlfriend sitting next to me giving me a disgusted look.

I'm pretty unimpressed with the voice acting overall to be honest. Not that I particularly care about that sort of thing, I still found it hard to not take off work today and keep playing.

Also,
the fact that he was on the cover of the game made it a dead give away.

I agree with you though, it would have been nice if they had been a bit more subtle about it.

I think you must be the only person in the world who dislikes Jansen. Jansen is a legend.

Some of his lines are great!

"Hey it's pretty cold up here.", to Seth - "Why don't you turn around?"

Classic Jensen. :lol
I especially like it when, out of the blue, he says "At least I don't wear out in bed!" or something among those lines. I just thought that was hilarious.

Only got to play about 2 hours into it last night, but I'm in love. The transitions from CGI to in-game are jaw dropping. Just the overall presentation is unbelievable.

Question: I notice there is an achievement for getting all of the Thousand Years of Dreams, is it possible to miss these as you are playing through the game, and if so can you go back and find 'em or would that require another play-through?

I think is possible to come back and get all the ones you missed.

Yep, i have loled with almost every line he has said in the game. The rolling down the valley in the grand staff base was a bit over the top but everything else was really funny.

He's good in a campy holy-crap-is-this-so-terrible-its-funny way I hope you mean.

John Harker

Definitely doesn't make things up as he goes along.
Crap, this game is sad.

Granted I only had 3 of the Dreams so far, but they are pretty powerful. Are they ALL like this? They are damn good, but really depressing...

You figure after 1000 years, you'd have a couple fond memories :(

I can totally see why he would not be funny to a lot of people though I love him a lot. Funny at a geek perspective maybe?

Am I dead inside because I have only been impressed not even really touched by two, Storteller and A Mother comes home.

I agree, the villain and his characterization is the weakest part of the story by far.

As I wrote earlier on this topic: "He's so stereotypically villainous I had him identified the first time I saw him. Then he continues to villainously perform acts of such utter villainy that it nearly makes me laugh."

Yeah, they are excellent, but after the 20th dream or so I wanted to shout at the Gooch that I get it, being immortal is not all that great :lol

What's wrong with that? Isn't that Kefka in a nutshell? That's Luca Blight in a nutshell too. And they're some of the best villians there are in jrpgs.
Well, I prefer "villains" that have understandable motives that you can at some level appreciate to those that are evil just for the heck of it.

Or if they are totally evil, they should at least not be so very obvious about it.

True but so far Luca Blight shits all over Gongora. Gongora is more on the path of clumsy evil villain trying to act like a good guy.

Here's a question that someone should hopefully be able to answer. Why is it that all the immortals in this game seem to be exactly 1000 years old? Is this ever explained in the game? If so, don't spoil it for me, just let me know.

Also, are they cursed to only live 1000 years or are they actually doomed to live forever? That part was never really made clear to me in the synopsis.

Most villians in jrpgs are notoriously black, they just want to stir up bad shit. There are few exceptions. It's not like this is Suikoden, where the villians have realistic motives.
And unsurprisingly, Suikoden is one of my favourite JRPG series. (And there are quite a few others with not-so-stereotypical villains too -- or no identifiable ones at all, e.g. SMT)

HEAVY SPOILER:
They're aliens from another [spirit] planet that visited for some reason at the same time - not explained by how far I am in the game - and were given immortal corporeal bodies. Their memories were stolen by Gongora - another immortal. They appear to still be immortal, though sometimes they wonder about that.

He has already had a couple fond memories. Especially the first, it just ends on a sad note. :lol

I only got to play a tidbit last night after having picked it up, but so far HOLY FREAKING CRAP.

Like everyone else said the CG transitions are awesome, my only complaints so far would have to be the typical UE3 stuff, a lot of the time in cut scenes, especially when it does that comic style panel presentation the frame rate drops a weeee bit.

nothing serious I'm just nit picky :p as long as it doesn't get to the levels where I'm having issues in mass effect where it literally gets like 5 frames per second in some spots :D

Nevermind the fact that Gongora straight up looks like a douche anyway, anyone could tell looking at him.

Going back to town to get more 1000 year dreams. Isn't there a plan to release a book of them, and is it going to come out in the States?

The book is already published in Japan. Dont know if there are plans to publish it elsewhere.

So far I'm not seeing the load times as something I'd dock points for. I haven't been bothered by them. The graphics are amazing and glad they let you have a zoom. I'm just now really getting involved in more of the combat, but I like how they threw in a lot of MMO ideas.

Chairman Yang

if he talks about books, you better damn well listen
Oof, the scene with
the figurehead queen and her advisor talking about war
was a way too heavy-handed metaphor for America and Iraq.

Otherwise, the game is captivating so far, and the negative reviewers were on crack. I always thought the credibility of Eurogamer (8/10) and Gametrailers (8.8) was better than the other guys, and this is just more confirmation.

Guys please tell me this game is worth my money. I so badly want to play it but don't want to waste it. Is it really worth it? Seriously? Help me gaf!

Just got LO yesterday and am about six hours in.

I will say this: It is more Final Fantasy than XII. Not necessarily better than XII ( I really liked XII) but XII is almost a completely different series.

Well, Sakaguchi said that Lost Odyssey is what FFXI would have been like if he had worked on it (and if it wasn't a MMO of course). So there you have it ;)

Help GAF!

I just encountered the sewer level :)lol) on the third disc, and at the part with the 3 sluice gates there is this glowing item (?):
lo_seweritem616.jpg

However, regardless of what I do I can't seem to reach it. If I drain the water I can't reach the bottom (and I also can't pass under the gates) and if I refill it I still don't reach the item. Halp!

I wonder how sales is going for LO? It was sold out at my local gamestop and is currently #2 on Amazon 360 chart. I guess it must do better then BD?

it doesnt really help that he very poorly designed and his VA sounds pretty bad....he seems straight out of Shadow hearts though....that game had some terribly corny villains...very camp though...this guy does look a bit like George Michael

Word of mouth from PAL importers plus the TV add should equal strong sales. Hopefully it'll reach a million.

Yeah well, I'm not holding my breath over this. I'd be delighted if it reached 500k.
As long as it sells enough to keep MS funding new Mistwalker games I'm satisfied.

Yes, it is. I am a WRPG player harshly critical of most JRPGs (I pretty much only like Earthbound, Final Fantasy Tactics, and a few others) and this one is just solid all around.

Man, there really is something special about this game.

The atmosphere built from the amazing score and art style is something I've never experienced before. I can't believe this game was getting such luke-warm reactions from the media.

I can't get over how cool the battles feel. Even Jensen looks like a badass with that hardcore camera angle.

Is there any way to get that soldier's helmet from being wedged in the lift's framework at the Great Gate? Or is that just there for effect
