I seems odd when people who don't speak japanese prefer japanese audio. The voice acting could be worse for all you know but you cannot know because you cannot speak it or understand.
This is quite off topic, but some of us who prefer the original voice acting actually understand (most of) the Japanese dialogue. But there's still a huge gap between understanding spoken Japanese and reading it fluently enough to enjoyably play a JRPG. Personally, I think that in the case of LO Kaim, Seth, Cooke and Mack are much better than their English counterparts, and Gongora and some other characters are mediocre in both versions.

The only JRPGs where the English dub is really good throughout are FF12 and DQ8 IMHO.

Everyone who loves them should read Jay Rubin's Haruki Murakami translations. Start with The Wind-Up Bird Chronicles. Or Kafka on the Shore if Wind-Up Bird is too intimidating long for you.
QFT. My recommended order: The Wind-Up Bird Chronicles ---> Norwegian Wood ---> Kafka on the Shore. Get a little variety from the completely bizarre.

Wow, I can't remember the last time a game made me teary-eyed. LO is such an awesome return to turn based RPGs. Having the writing, soundtrack, and dubbing be completely awesome kinda help too. :lol

I love the game so far, 8 hours in, its beautiful, i love the dream stories, i love the music, the main character that is serious and the goofy jansen, im getting really addicted to this game.

Production value of this game is way up there, wont be matched till FFXIII i think.

Jeez I am stuck on the second boss. I've tried a few times and he owns me every time. It'd be easy if had Seth and Kaim learn magic, but I'm not going to do that. Carbon copy characters suck.

It's been a while...years, actually, since I've been stuck in a game.

I just taught Seth and Kaim some skill that recharges the GC when they defend so I'm sure I'll be fine this time. GC really makes a difference.

Make sure you got Anti-Paralyze on all your characters and have All-Barrier up all the time.
I was killing of bugs with Seth and Kaim , and throwing Aqua with Jansen.

He got off his main attack 3 times , cause i kinda focused more on damaging the boss while he was under 1k hp, but none of my characters died.

Anyway , awesome game so far. I really like the battles and the music is awesome.
Im about 9h into it , still on DVD1.

So far from what I've played the English dub is great, and I haven't tried it with Japanese but the English dub is good enough that there isn't any reason to change.

Someone help me find the kid's treasure in Numara. I've got 2 already, I can't find the "red one".

And can you still find the little fox girl after playing hide and seek?

ya I am playing with the japanese dub but I find it very tiring to have to read, hehe so thinking to continue playing with the english dub instead since I heard they did a good job with it...and yeah I think whoever did jansen did a better job than the japanese dub

It's a red balloon that I think is near the wall with the vine and the red fruits.

This is correct. I missed the red balloon too first , and when i finally found it , it was almost embarrassing. All because i had already removed the red fruit there , i didnt think it was red enough.

Do you remember which one? There are a lot of vines with apples around town..
IIRC it's around the corner not far from where the kids are (to the southeast), before you come to the bridge.

Nah, you just get a couple of cool items, the Weapon Master script is pretty darn useful though it automatically blocks alot of attacks. I think the bomus is just dl content on the JP marketplace.

I actually thought Jansen was going to be really annoying when he was first introduced, but he's turned out to be a great character.

The worst thing about this game are the load times and sparse save points. That's really it.
I'm honestly not bothered by the load times, and there were only a couple of instances where I thought there should have been a save point.

What does annoy me a bit is that you don't get to see the turn order until after you make your selections, at which point it is pretty much completely useless. Otherwise, I love the game and I haven't enjoyed an RPG this much for quite some time.

Now stuck on the second boss. I've never been wailed on this hard by a game in my life. Going in for try three, although I'm definitely going to retool my character for anti-paralysis this time around. Also, why go for aqua, since he's a water-based enemy? Isn't that kind of counterintuitive?

Second boss element is fire, Aqua ftw.

Seriously. But he just killed me another time so that makes 3 Game Overs so far. (Which already is 3 more than in the last 2 JRPGs I completed combined)

Will try again tomorrow. My problem is
that I'm forced to use 2 characters of whom I have no control before the battle and who are not even close to the level cap :/

Why did they bother to put veins on Ming's breasts? :lol
I know. I'm ALWAYS looking at them U_U Maybe it's on purpose? Haha. But yeah, as for the game,
Ming has just joined my party
<-- Beginning Disc2 spoilers.

I'm really liking the game - I haven't played a decent RPG for a long time since FFX. I'm happy with how LO turned out, and that it's nothing like BD. =P

I just attacked the bugs using Kaim and Seth and then used Jansen to cast Aqua on the big boss. By destroying the bugs, you limit the energy he draws from them. Using this method, I managed to defeat the creature without ever letting it use Para-Flare. Mind you, I DID have about 5 tries before just attacking the boss itself - but it didnt work.

Also pointing out that the turn system in this game, especially during the boss fights, is complete and utter bullshit.
second boss: I'M SO AWESOME THAT I GET A SECOND TURN IMMEDIATELY AFTER I ABSORB ENOUGH MAGIC TO SHOOT YOU ALL IN THE CHEST WITH PARALYSIS. DON'T YOU LOVE IT?!?! GOD I'M HOT.
I'm getting angry.

The snake is Fire-type, I think it's the bugs that are Water-type. I suggest having Jansen cast Prism while Seth and Kaim target the bugs with one hit each, that way you can wipe them all out on turn 2. Then switch to Aqua against the big snake when the bugs are gone.

Damn! I think I had more Game Overs just from the Griffon fight than you've had the whole game so far! The boss you're up to must be pretty damn hard if you're having trouble.

Wait, so the game makes you use certain characters during certain battles - regardless of how much you've levelled them up?

I HATE IT WHEN THEY DO THAT. =( Which characters, if I may ask? =P

Exactly. That in itself wouldn't be much of a problem, but there's the added twist of not being able to control/level them up before the fight.

For those who want to avoid trouble, here's a non-spoiler hint: Bring up all the characters (even those you don't use) to a decent level at the start of the third disc.

Ditto, the concept and quality needs to be executed again in a future Mistwalker games. It'd be a great staple for fleshing out characters.

Later in the game are there good places to grind?, cause i know you need to be bit high level for secret bosses.

Yeah, I'm lovin' the stories. I've read all of them up to the point I'm at.

Was I the only one that was interested by the stories you could find in Blue Dragon?

The game is written fine, far better than most RPG's. I don't see how you'd make the game itself work well chained down with such Earthly stories of character.

No the Dreams are written fine. The character personalities (read Jansen) are helping the story pass is so far unimpressive pass. And being better then most when not many are good isn't that much a huge leap.

They are still in LO. I kind of liked Valon the Wizard and whatever the Robot one was.

Taken a break from the game right now. I agree with what you say.

So far I'm liking the characters/story/battles/atmosphere/side quests/music. What a total turn around from BD. I hope this game sells well.(Which I think it will)

If you say so. I like it quite a bit thus far, it's charming, well presented, interesting level headed and most of all RESTRAINED. When you try to get batshit wacky during a video games main campaign, is when you wind up with laughable garbage like Takahashi's works.

RPG or not, it's always best to ground yourself as a video game first and foremost. I personally don't feel like i'd be too happy with LO if they attempted to turn the Dreams into awkward cutscenes or terrible gameplay segments. Part of the reason they're so great is that they use the strength of another medium to bolster this one. Just wouldn't have the impact, otherwise. At least to me.

They do a lot for Kaim's character, as well as adding some pretty rich lore to the world.

Attempt four on boss 2. Once again, the turn system in this game is bullshit and completely artificial for the enemies, especially during boss fights. Loved on my last attempt when Seth was about to cast heal, when one of those fucking bugs ran up out of turn and killed her. Amazing. The game's great, but the battle system is broken with shit like this going on.

Hmm finished disc 3 yesterday, but i can't remember anything like this. I remember two boss battles at the end of disc 3 and both are preluded with a "big" dungeon.

Edit: Oh I think I remember the boss. But can't remember having problems with it. The game forces you through enough battles before that one. Better get used to that group setup. :p

I am just trying to promote some better storytelling while feeling like a part of the game not just background semi-connected lore (FFXII's bestiary would be an example). I already stated that the Dreams are good but they could also help by getting a better writer for the actual game story.

Then again it must be hard to understand what I say. I get confused responses tons of time.

I just got an email today telling me there was a delay in shipping. Its not estimated to ship until the 20th which fucking sucks. I didnt even get the preorder bonus too. : (

I purchased the game (I already beat the game before) and... the case isn't as bad as you guys think :lol I stacked all 4 DVDs on the nub and have tried shaking it as hard as I can and the manual keeps the 4th DVD from ever falling out of place. The case is a non issue.

So general consensus on the story = great characters, great character development/interaction, and inconsistantly great voice overs but terrible plot?

I just read the Eurogamer review:

But if you've got the patience to sit through its slow build-up, and if you're open-minded enough to allow it to transport you, then it will take you to places that other JRPGs haven't even dreamed of visiting.

Is that not the most positive comment the game has received?

My one big complaint with this game is the pacing is terrible.

I do not play RPGs to play 15 minutes of collecting and simon-says minigames.
