While I have quietly read everything you've... said... in this thread and while I don't agree with most of it... I found the above to simply be uncalled for. That's not the way to get people to take what you are saying at face value.

I'm not a big fan of Bush but how can people blame him for the poor economy? Interest rates are low, taxes were lowered by him a while ago, he supports deregulation. That's all good for business and basically all that the president can directly do in terms of the economy without initiating massive New Deal-type job programs. Eventually the economy will sort itself out...or not but it isn't really under Bush's control and him getting the blame for a bad economy or praise for a good one is kind of stupid.

I actually belong to that same school of thought. However, keep in mind that he cut a lot of taxes for wealthier people, which do not benefit the poor as much.

Anyways, one thing I wwish I could blame Bush for are the high oil prices. Didn't he claim that he could influence the oil makers during the last election? One thing I remember from 4 years ago, aroudn October or so, is a man at my school saying that Bush would fix the high oil prices. Haha... that guy must be eating his words right now.

Small balls, big fun!
jinx: Yeah, the GOP's definitely putting their centrist foot forward, stacking the lineup with pro-abortion Catholics. Rick Santorum's going to be speaking though, which personally has me looking forward to some hot, sweaty, man-on-dog slippery slope arguments.

Hournda: The tax cuts could and should have been aimed at lower income brackets to better increase demand, and Alan Greenspan could have been told that full employment was the government's goal. Whatever the limitations of the federal government in managing the economy, someone who thinks the economy is on the right track will do less to help it than someone who thinks it should be doing better.

Raise Havok, right now I wonder if you're a joke character. If you aren't, then it's a bad sign that I'm asking this question.

For those interested - Day-by-day schedule of GOP convention

The Republican Party has chosen "Fulfilling America's Promise by Building a Safer World and a More Hopeful America" as the overall theme of its 2004 national convention, which will take place Aug. 30-Sept. 2 in New York. MSNBC Cable will carry the convention live for eight hours each day, from 6 p.m. to 2 a.m. ET. Each day also has its own theme. Here's a day-by-day look at the agenda:

Monday, Aug. 30
"A Nation of Courage:" New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg will open the convention and welcome delegates. Featured speakers that evening will be former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani, who will talk about the courage of Americans and New Yorkers on Sept.11, 2001, and Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.), who will speak on the bravery of Ameriucan servicemen and women. Other speakers: Rep. Heather Wilson, Bernie Kerik, Rob Khuzami, Zainab Al-Suwaij, Angie Harmon and Jason Sehorn, Sen. Lindsay Graham.

Anne Northup; Erika Harold, Miss America 2003; Steven McDonald; Sen. Sam Brownback; Sen. Bill Frist; Elisabeth Hasselbeck; Secretary of Education Rod Paige; Lt. Gov. Michael Steele of Maryland;

Wednesday, Sept. 1
"A Land of Opportunity:" Sen. Zell Miller, a Democrat from Georgia, will deliver the convention's keynote address. The party says Miller "will speak about the land of opportunity created by President Bush's pro-growth, pro-American worker, pro-American entrepreneur agenda." Vice President Dick Cheney will be the featured speaker, addressing "the administration's record of creating opportunity for all Americans and the president's vision for spreading freedom around the world to ensure our safety at home." Others: Gov. Linda Lingle of Hawaii; Attorney General Brian Sandoval of Nevada; Secretary of Interior Gale Norton; Sen. Rick Santorum; Sen. Mitch McConnell; Secretary of Labor Elaine Chao; Rep. Paul Ryan; Michael Reagan; Lt. Gov. Kerry Healey of Massuchesetts; Gov. Mitt Romney of Massachusetts; Lynne Cheney.

Thursday, Sept. 2
"A Safer World, a More Hopeful America:" President Bush gives his acceptance speech. The party says he "will lay out his vision for the next four years — a vision that will help build a safer world and a more hopeful America. ... Drawing inspiration from the courage and compassion of all Americans, the president will talk about his plan for building a safer world by spreading freedom around the globe." Also speaking: Michael Williams; Gov. George Pataki of New York.

Highlighted are each days main speakers. *note...didn't see any spot for Britney Spears :( (j/k)

Man, is that catchy as all hell, or what? I mean, it just rolls off the tongue.

Okay, dont' mind me, I'm just bitter they didn't go with my suggestion: "Fostering Harmony and Understanding Throughout America".

Okay, so maybe someone can answer this: what's the dealing with that huge-ass land bridge on 34th Street, between MSG and the public library. What the delegates don't want to dirty their feet on our streets? And I hear the Prez isn't even spending the night in NYC, he's just popping into town, doing his speech, and then leaving ASAP. That's fucked up. Even the mayor has voiced his disappointment.

This is the problem with this forum. Whenever someone has a difference of opinion the Mods and Forum members are quick to quiet them down by either banning them, or threatening too. Keep in mind I live at a college campus, I've got access to millions of computers with different IP addresses, so ban me if you like, it doesn't mean it's over.

I’m honored.

Just curious to know why you feel I deserved to be muted? Do you not agree with me or can you not take dissent.

I know for a fact that I always try and keep it civil so your wish seems a bit odd to me.

But you still need to be fair to both sides. And let's face if I'm a minority, so why don't you tag all the other minorities too... I thought that's what you guys were always fighting to save, and here you are catigorizing one in your own backyard. Pathetic.

Jeez, I wonder? Bush cut funding for low income programs to give the wealthy tax cuts. Not once, but twice during his 4 years in office. Some of those programs include Medicare, Medicaid, and the student loans program (I'm fucking irate over this one). All programs lower income people in this country depend on. Bush also hasn't done shit to try and prevent the outsourcing of jobs to other countries. Yeah, let not do anything about corporations sending low income jobs away, but then lets cut funding on shit you depend on also. Bush has created a good economy for his rich cronies, while fucking over the average person.

Hey, he is a decisive man like Bush. Havok has access to a million ips, so ban him. But he'll be back! Disagree with the Iraqi war? Bush has access to all of the intelligence he needs to bend and twist, so he can lie his way into war!

The DNC thread didn't even start until a day after or so of the actual convention, you fucking idiot. So quit your useless fucking bitching.

Well, he'd actually have to be a member. That much is obvious. But people still define themselves as Republican, solely because they believe in the party. So given this comment:

"After all this DNC crap I've been forced to see on every channel, it's good to finally hear some people who know what they are talking about."

I'm surprised that he'd object to being called as such, unless he means that he just isn't a card-carrying member.

I still disagree, and this is a part of why I dislike the two party system. Just because he disagrees with the Democrats and agrees with the Republicans on most issues, you think he's being facetious in saying he's not a Republican. But I likewise agree with the Democratic stances over Republican ones msot of the time. However, I think they're too willing to compromise or roll over on issues and are too willing to kick down third party candidates, so I'd rather not be known as a Demcrat.

I don't like to think of myself as a party member because let's think back some odd years. Republicans were the Liberals and Democrats were the consevatives. All because of the economic veiw the Repiblicans had, now the Democrats ahve a "newer" (And I use that loosely as it's new, but not like it just came out last month) way to deal with the economy. I prefer to stand by the coices I agree with. Things like Minimum Wage and Abortions and things that I agree with the Republicans. But in 40 years who is to say they will still believe that. I know I will, because it is want I believe now, and frankly I'm not seeing me decided that because some college hussy makes a choice to have a baby, she is allowed another choice to get rid of it. I argee with the Pro-Choice slogan, but it is for the wrong party. It shoudl be the difference of Pro-Choice and Pro-Choices.

I don't follow everything Raise Havok says, but the part I understood, paraphrased:

The stances of political parties change. Mine don't. So why align myself with a group that will probably be very different in a matter of decades?

You understand it. But do you actually think that's anything less than retarded? I just think he knows that he'd be more favourably received if he projected himself as an independent, despite the fact that he's clearly a Republican through and through.

I think basically, he's just randomly throwing in his opinion on abortion, with little relevance to what he said previously.

And on his abortion stance, he's basically saying that with pro-life, women still have a choice......whether they have sex or not, but they can't then have another choice whether to have the baby or not.

Ah, I thought that's where it might be going. Has abortion been brought up at the convention or are we just begging for a 40-page debate on a subject that won't be touched on for years?
