Official: Trump to revoke transgender bathroom guidance

States rights as a shield to hate is BS. Remember when states fought for the right to own slaves?

We're never going to learn as a nation. We'll just keep finding new groups to hate.

I feel like we as a nation have already had the discussion over whether civil rights should be a states issue.

Good.

Now we can get this before a court and settle the civil rights issue.

I didn't like that we had to have the courts tell everyone that marriage isn't just for straight people, as I would have preferred that states come around to that decision on their own. However now that we know the courts can be used to settle this civil rights issue, let's get it done.

Yeah a court that relies on Kennedy seeing trans issues the same as Same-sex marriage... which I'm not convinced.

We must destroy America before we can make it great again.

It's all about the controlled burns...

Why were companies pulling out?

That isn't standing up for trans people?

Any state that follows NC is going to be destroyed by a combo of Brain Drain, tourism reductions, and progressive businesses/organizations pulling events and job opportunities.

Is it worth it just to be hateful assholes? We will find out.
You're right that it is support, just I don't see it as the voice of the people. It's that an entity with money can blackmail the rest into following
I guess it's good that trump is giving it to states to decide tho cause I couldn't see the same strategy working at all on a national scale. Will still be an issue for deep red states that already scared businesses away tho

It's still a good sign that even a state like NC turned on their governor (even if only barely) over it. To my understanding it still leans safely republican.

I hope you can get somewhere that will accept you though, even though I have to acknowledge that it's more a case of somewhere that will be less shitty to you then Florida. Unfortunately I'm not sure of anywhere that Trans people don't have to deal with bullshit day in and day out.

I still think we're making progress with hearts and minds on this issue. But it is beyond painfully slow.

No no no they didn't turn against McCrory to defend trans folk, they turned against McCrory because of the economic loss of the companies and sports orgs.... They don't give that much of a fuck about trans folk, they care about the Superbowl, NCAA tournies and business investments.

I'm legitimately terrified of the day I start my transition. Shit like this? It's going to result in a rise in assaults. Guaranteed. It is legitimaizing bigotry and making people who already want to do these things feel vindicated and supported, because they fucking are.

I've been following your posts, and I just wanted to say:

We are here for you my friend. Please keep speaking your mind and know that you have support.

Fucking yuck.

Pull money from all the fucks that uphold this.

Fuck the Trump administration, and fuck DeVos for folding.

My money's on Oklahoma being the first to fuck itself over.

What an utterly hateful waste of time. This hadn't been an issue despite trans people being around for far longer than the last, what, five years when these first started showing up?

Always gotta have a boogyman.

While I'm just as "Fuck Trump" as the next GAFfer, I'm pretty sure any Republican president would do this; particularly under the guise of "power to the states, not the government."

I'll get two fuck trumps in for ya buddy. ;)

$50/hour, but no kissing on the lips and colors must be pre-separated
Because differing human rights issues to the states has worked out so wonderfully in the history of our nation. I live in Texas, specifically Houston, where people lose sleep over and constantly vote against the great trans boogeyman.

Hell, even Lance Berkman had an anti-prop 1 commercial here. The fucking Big Puma/Fat Elvis was up there spouting hate. Was like a knife in my Astros-loving heart.

NC took the L for what they did but companies did the right thing and probably the only that would have registered to these assholes. It also showed clear as day what would happen and I'm 100% positive Jacksonville wouldn't have passed our protection law here last week if it wasn't for the threat of losing sport events. Same thing is happening across the US. I'm not surprised Trump did this (he lied, omg no way) but the positive is that states were already being forced to deal with this because of NC.

True. While everybody is going to put their sights on Trump, we can not forget this wouldn't have gone through without DeVos' approval.

As much as it pains me to "defend" her, another article I've read essentially said she could either side with the president or resign.

I'll give her a small, tiny bit of credit for at least standing up for it...until the party line comes in, anyway.

This would be like giving McCain credit for saying one thing and then doing completely the opposite for the last 30 years of his useless career. Plus it's not a stand on principles for DeVos, it's that she's already sick of a job where her actions are up for public scrutiny, and she's straight shook that people haven't given her glowing praise so far.

Sadly I think it will be just like all the other mid term elections. I do hope that I'm wrong, would be glorious if dems could take control back.

Oh and screw Trump :/

If what's happening right now still can't get people to get out and vote, then this country has far more problems than simply Trump and I'll seriously be looking at moving elsewhere.

I think Trump has learned to do this shit quiet enough that for intents and purposes he has stabilized. Meaning people won't get bothered enough to protest any more unless he makes a deliberate show of doing something terrible.

The problem is they are creating states run completely by religious fundamentalists.

Religious laws, religious schools and ultimately religious votes. They can then use those votes to make money any damn way they like and create more religious fundamentalism.

Leave it up to the states? Of course they want to do that. The US slips further away every day.

Fuck this guy so fucking much. How the hell do we get him impeached!? Im shaking right now.

Impeachment is not going to happen with the GOP having a majority in the Senate and Congress. Do you want to do something about it? Vote in 2018 mid term elections and urge others to do the same. It's the only way anyone can stop Trump and the GOP.

With how little attention this seems to be getting, I doubt many will be in arms when Trump does this. I hope I'm wrong.

Unfortunately, Transgender perception even by the left is not positive or encouraging in the US. Now factor in a Republican full control of the government and this is NOT SHOCKING. I was fully expecting Trump to remove all protections for the LGBT community.

The thing is, removing protections from all LGBT would provoke immediate outrage.

But target only the T part? People stay silent.

I bet the dreamworld Trump lives in is straight up copying the same laws that Russia has when it comes to the LBGT community (i.e. get ostracized or get arrested).

On the surface it makes sense, let states decide. But a handful have already shown they make poor decisions.

Also it screws over the individuals. The mobility excuse fails because not everyone can just pick up and move.

"Here, you have rights... OOPS, they're gone again! Maybe you'll get them back in 4 years. Or 8."

Almost like important issues like these should go through an actual process instead of handed out on the whims of somebody who can only enforce it for 4-8 years.

Yup. 100% this. We still have a long way to go on public perception of trans people. Caitlyn Jenner set things back in terms of trans rights and perception, and I'm saying that as a member of that community. On one side you have conservatives pointing to her as their token trans person so that they can push their bullshit and feel less guilty. Then there are the liberals who say the LGBTQ community has a conservative problem and refuse to support the trans community in the first place. A lot of it isn't outright maliciousness on the part of libersls, though- it's that they just don't care. Racial inequality, gender inequality, sexual orientations- despite the fact that we should be focussed on coming together and working on all of these things, transpeople get kicked to the curb.
