Official Virtua Fighter 5 Thread

Picked up my copy at lunch from BB. Just a reminder to people who can get it at BB, there is a $10 off any game 39.99 coupon that is still valid. You just print it and take it in. I used this with 3 reward zone coupons, 34.99 VF5 :D I have my Hori FS3 sitting at home waiting, stupid meetings at work.....I should cancel them and put my response as VF5.

If anyone cant find the coupon (its on here somewhere), I can probably host it for a little while.

Can you hook us up with this coupon or at least tell us where to find it? I looked on CAG but no luck

OT: I am an Arcade Stick noob and have a question rearding the HORI sticks. Will these sticks work with future PS3 arcade ports (eg. Virtua tennis 3)? Sorry, if the answer is obvious and the question stupid :)

yeah, it works with any game it seems, I got my fighting stick yesterday and wanted to use it and since it didnt work on my PC, I played the Ridge Racer 7 demo which worked fine.

but sony better allow the arcade sticks to work with PS2 games, I wanted to play GGX2 so bad yesterday

Coupon says "No Copies"...wouldn't printing it out count as a copy?

They're usually ok with it. Just try a different store or cashier if an uptight ahole cashier rejects it.

Got the game at lunch, and only got to play for about 20 minutes. Graphically, at first glance the game looks just a tad bit better than DOA360, UNTIL you take notice of how fluid each character moves, the cloth clothing-especially on Kage looks outstanding, and the huge amount of action going on during the fighting, OUTSIDE the fighting ring. It's worth buying for the graphics alone.PERIOD.

Gameplay-wise It seems to be just like VF4:EVO.

Finally, I have a home version of VF where the graphics look EXACLY like the arcade!

An excellent game for PS3.

I printed mine out on the nice ass color printer at work. They took mine and co workers no questions asked today. I have had other ones I used for PSP games in the past, they have never said anything to me.

Just picked mine up today at the FS in downtown Vancouver :D . Also placed an order at EBgames.com for the stick.

EDIT: I got an error when I first started the game up, error 80010005. Has anyone else had this error popup with virtua fighter?. I know someone else had this problem but this is the first time it occured. Reset seems to have worked as its installing right now.

ok got the game - installed it and played a few credits of arcade mode...

Set-up = Samsung 40" 1080p LCD hooked up via HDMI and Yamaha 5.1 DTS tuner hooked up via optical cable.

1st - I do not have the mentioned and pictured overscan problem. Not sure why you guys are getting that - perhaps set your PS3 to non-widescreen mode?

The sound is amazing - the channel mixing is good - still sound was good on VF4: EVO

The GFX are a mixed bag...some of the stuff looks bloody real - and some of the stuff looks bloody hokey (examples of hokeyness = the stage pan at the beginning of the islander guys stage, that background of the mountain etc looks too much one of those bad last gen sky backgrounds...Kage's Gi also looks really silly and very last-genish)...still its the best loooking fighter I have played yet.

The game play is great - still not as fun as Tekken, but its a goood change of pace compared to the last few fighters I have been playing (Mortal Kombat: Deception (PS2) and Star Gladiator (PSOne)) I think I can spend some time with this.

Definately the best arcade next gen experience I have had(I do have high hopes that Raiden III tops this for arcade-ness)...I want an arcade stick tho - easier to get yer combo flow going.

Gonna try it with some 'victims' later.

Called EBgames. They only had enough for preorders which pisses me off becasue they always do this. I got in a 5 minute dispute with the guy who I had many problems with before.

Called target. Nope

Called best buy. On hold for 15 minutes and going.

sorry, late to the party.....but what on earth is this...

http://www.ps3fanboy.com/2007/02/12/virtua-fighter-5-supports-720p-but-who-read-the-latest-egm/

So, what's the deal, then, Sega? Why are we only getting 720p support? The Japanese version had 1080i and 1080p support... even though Japanese gamers believe those are simply upscaled resolutions and not "truly" supported. In truth, it doesn't matter. This game is probably going to be the highlight of February and perhaps most of March. We'll be back with our very first PS3 game review before the end of the month!

so the U.S version only does 720p, while the japanese is 1080i/1080p? WTF?

i have a 1080p Bravia....should i get the japanese version since it supoprts 1080i/p or is that some kind of a miss print on the japanese cover?

Someone please tell me that I have a bad Hori Fighting Stick 3 as I cannot get the thing to power on my console from using the home button on the stick. The home button works fine in game, but why can't I turn on my system with just the joystick? WTF!!!

BIG THANK YOU FOR THE COUPON GUYS!!!

Okay, this is the move sequence I can't get reliably. I even mapped the triggers. Turns out it wasn't the triggers, just me.

PP<-PP(down)P+K+G

To me this means press punch twice, then again while holding left, then hold down and press L1 (what I have it configured to). What am I doing wrong? I've done it like four or five times but I can't get it reliably.

Edit: I think it's a timing thing. I am getting it more frequently.

at work we hooked it up to a crappy monitor that outpust 480i = puke.
we then hooked it up to a small HDTV thats outputs into 720p = the beautifull!!

I always have to disable the R1 and R2 shoulders because I have I rest the controller on my lap and the buttons get pressed.. so R1 and R2 disabled!!!

it's not bad. You can't turn it on with the stick. Sorry

:lol I have a loooooooooooong way to go.....

This game is stunning by the way. So much detail in both the skin and clothing fabric, really good stuff.

i see. 720p looks slightly blurry on my 1080p Bravia compared to 1080i/p

Then play the game in 1080p.

Go into system settings, display, and uncheck 720p and 1080i. Now the game will run in 1080p.

HOLY CRAP!

I didn't realize that the Hori sticks were even out in America. I did a product search on GameStop's website and there are even some in my area!

What do I do? Wait for the Virtua Stick, or buy a Hori stick now?

El blaze is the awesome.
His throws are stylish as heck
and his df,df +P+K+G throw does awesome damage and is awesome to watch.

Tips for Blaze: poke with the p p p k string to get ppl trained to block the punches and duck the kick. When they duck the kick low throw them *IF they're smart they'll just low punch you out of the attack though*

use <+K P (P or K) to set up the same guessing game as above only they can't duck the punch so mix in a high throw after the first P is blocked

One wakeup you can get free backthrows if the opponent likes to get up with low or high kicks. Just do up forwards+P+K to hop over them and get a free combo or high low back throw.

If you guess your opponent is going to duck press U+P+K to combo them

To fake out opponents do Upforward P+K from a distance then as you land tap d/b to dodge back and bait for whiffs.

Use rocket discharge (His running move) to confuse the opponent cancel it as you come into range of your opponent and let them whiff then drop kick them with Uptowards and kick.

learn what moves you can go into rocket discharge from and use those to set up guessing games.

Use his fake roll to set up throws as well. Condition the opponent to guard the upper cut from the roll then Fake roll > Buffer throw as the roll ends > ALL RIGHT_YESSSSSSSS_ETC..)

Mixups and mindgames are what make this game great

The Hori fighting stick is decent. If you want top quality import a Hori real arcade pro 3 now or Virtua stick *they should be coming back out soon*

VGO.net has the HRAP3 for cheapest (supposedly, but still on preorder status)
NCSX is 2nd cheapest
play-asia is expensive

Does El Blaze really say "Hot Dog!" at the end of one of his throws? Because that's what it sounds like to me and my friends.

Oh, I didn't realize there were two different Hori sticks... the ones I hear you guys talking about must be the highter quality ones.

I'll check into those! Thanks!

Any good screen shots from folks with much better TV's than mine? It looks great, but I need more HDTV here.

The shots DC Charlie uploaded on pages 13, 16, 17, & 19 of this very same thread I thought were really nice.

Oh wow. It's so hard to take pics of the game in fast motion at 60 FPS :lol

I tried catching shots during moments of no movement or during moments of slow moment...and then I tried the STILL function on my TV and I hated it. :\

I'll take more after AI...shut up.

Eileen in fast motion :lol :lol

Guys dont confuse the Hori Pro 3 with the fighting stick please :(

Pictures I took is of the Hori Pro 3 which is twice the price and much better quality, basically the same as an arcade stick, the fighting stick is basically the same as the old SC2/VF4 evo sticks and much more platic and cheap feel (I own both of them and believe me its like going from a 3wheel robin reliant to a ferrari)

I'd say this is quite an exaggeration...I've played with both, and although the HP3 is the superior stick, I wouldn't quite say it's "much better" or agree that the FS3 has a "much more plastic & cheap feel".

The HP3's have had issues with lose/ill-fitting buttons, for one. Rather than screwing in, they kinda snap in and aren't always snug. The FS3's buttons seem to fit a bit better, but that's only comparing 2 HP3's vs. 1 FS3. (Not a deal-breaker for me, but some obsess over it)

The HP3 is bigger & heavier, which is a huge plus for some, and kind of a non-issue for others. I like mine to be portable and easy to hand around during group play, so the FS3 is a bit more my style.

Sticks on both seem nice and "clicky". I've always been a big fan of lollypop sticks, and the FS3 stick feels about as good as my red Hori felt back in the T3/TTT days.

Basically, I like'em both...the HP3 is "better", but I don't think it's "Pay twice the price better"...I'll be perfectly happy with my FS3.
