Good point. I am only going to discuss quarterbacks that have won more than one Superbowl. If you take away cheating bastards I wonder how many active quarterbacks in the league have more than one ring?

That disqualifies Brady because his team was caught cheating, so help me out GAF, who is left? I feel like there must be at least one legendary qb who fits the bill.

how about we just discuss QBs that have won Super Bowl MVPs?

What a bullshit call. To rub it in even more, Brady actually laughed about it on the field. I've never seen a team bailed out of tough situations by referees so many times in my life.

It's not a BS call, that's just the new rules. Defensive players are expected to defy the physics of the natural world to prevent themselves from ever "lunging" at the QB's lower body. The NFL wants to protect it's starting passers to keep the passing game at it's highest level.

It's amazing to me how the NFL has changed in the last few years. The emphasis on the passing game and the new rules and the way old rules are enforced are wrapped around allowing teams to have a successful, and entertaining, passing game. PI and defensive holding calls are so strict now that it's hard for any team to stop another teams passing game.

Just look at how many teams can be successful with a shitty running game nowadays. It's really taken the impact of having a great RB out of the game. A team like the Vikings shouldn't have to throw more than 20 times a game with their Oline Rb and defense. Just 10 years ago Tampa made it to the NFC championship, and almost won it, with a strong defense and good running game mixed with very limited passing. That was just 10 years ago but I don't think a team like that could sniff the championship game today.

It's also a bit unfair that the fines for these penalties fall primarily on the defense. It's already on the average the lower paid side of the ball.

Low blow. And he could have won the MVP in the last Superbowl and no one would have said it was undeserved. Same could be said for James Harrison, Kurt Warner or Fitz. All part of the reason of why it was the greatest Superbowl of all time. Doesn't it make sense that the greatest qb of our generation would have won the greatest Superbowl of all time?

Yeah Eli has been looking pretty good this year. The two picks he has thrown this year were balls that bounced off of the hands of the receivers and into defenders hands. He really hasn't put the ball in harms way with the exception of that one play against TB where Smith was surrounded by 3 players and Eli zipped it in there. It was a completion but it was scary.

8 TDs, 2 Ints, 1039 yards, 79/125 for a 63% completion. 104.1 QBR.

Not bad for Easy E who used to throw picks even against the worst of passing Ds. I am very curious to see how he will do when Steve Smith is taken away from him like he will this week versus Nnamdi Asomugha.

i'm torn with the mnf game

basically brett favre ruined football for me in my formative years as a chicago bears fan, we suffered numerous blowouts & come from behind victories at the hands of that hillbilly qb, we were the packers doormats during the wannstedt and jauron eras, it wasnt until life support lovie came to town that we started beating the packers again (i guess it also coincided with brett favre's decline but w/e)

but the packers are also my most hated team in the nfl, its also easy to dislike them w/their fans on this board =D

idk i guess best bet for the bears is have the packers win so we have a 3 way tie at the top of the division, but i see the packers losing today, i think they typically always have trouble playing at the rollerdome

I know! I'm thinking about just not watching the game, but I do want to see GB destroy Farvre. I'm thinking he'll throw at least 3 picks tonight. A GB win helps the Bears more, so I guess that's who should win.

I couldn't have said it better myself.

My dad always used to say that a Packers loss was as good as a Bears win.

That said, I'll still probably root for them tonight. :(

Hey atleast he didn't rape a girl.
lol

And jesus, if anyone is overrated it's Tom goddamn Brady.

I'm a hybrid. I'm a HUGE Favre fan but I love the packers too. But I've mostly been following the Vikings so my bet is on them. Peterson is a beast! It's leaving me in shreds though, since I like both teams. It's going to be hard to watch, but I think I'll be rooting for Vikings.

How are you a fan of both teams in the same division?

I just am man. I love the game and I love just watching good teams duke it out. It's mostly the devotion to Favre though, but I've found a new appreciation for the Vikings. I mean, that 49ers play was bonkers. All Farve, but ya gotta give it to the Vikings for doing a good job. Still no Favre/Freeman catch but good nonetheless. It's going to be tough to watch. Luckily two of my good friends are big fans of both teams. Ones a big packer, ones a big viking, and I'm big for both teams.

I love stuff like this. I guess you didn't see the Ravens get the same "bullshit" call on Mike Wright. Or the 2 roughing the passers that we got week one that were not even close in the Monday night opener. Only the Pats get those calls though...that's a good one.
Did Flacco jump and down and say, "ow ow ow ow, he hit me, he hit me...flag plz, flag plz, flag plz"?

Ben would probably have a bit more yardage, a few more touchdowns (Sweed dropping the easiest touchdown completion of all time), and 2 less interceptions (Having him throw a hail mary in the final seconds of a half and Holmes running the wrong route) if it weren't for some dropped passes and incompetent coaching. He's been pretty amazing this year.

I don't know about the rest of you brothers, but I'm gonna be watching the Packers game! This will be a true test for the green and yellow cheese-amaniacs brother. If they can dig deep pull out a win against that slimey franchise killer Brett Favre they will have a chance at making an awesome football run that hasn't been seen since the days of the old cheese heads brothers! I hope Favre took is roids and said his prayers yesterday because he's in for a battle brother! The Packers will call on the divine powers from up high and destroy the taint that is Bret Favre brother

WHAT YOU GONNA DO BRETT!!!!! WHAT YOU GONNA DO WHEN A WICKED PASSRUSH RUNS WILD ON YOU!!!!!

That was some bitch shit, and I agree its embarrassing.
Pretty soon this sport will look like soccer with gut-less QB's faking injuries for flags.
This is America buttercup, toughen the fuck up.

Yep pretty soon, "Selling It" will be a stat in madden

I have no qualms with you NE-ers, but given the Pats coaching, O-line, etc., Cassel could have been very successful if he were the QB. They got gyped out of the Playoffs last year, imo, anyway. Brady has had luxury since Day 1, so I'd love to see him perform well if any of the silver spoons were taken away. On a funny note, people from U-M talked insane amounts of shit about him and hated him, but when he became Superboy-wonder, funny how that story is different.

But my point was shitting over legendary QBs infavor of your new kid on the block is stupid.
Favre is an attention whore and an annoying one at that, but you have to give props where props are due.

I wonder if GAF was around when Elway retired you'd be shitting on him too. Christ.

pretty sure he got banned in that Game Informer thread, but I'll just think to myself that it was for excessive Favre whoring...

he's hardly a new kid, I'm all for encouraging people to not hate on players, but you're doing it yourself.

Ben has looked good slingin and slangin it this year. The TD/INT ration will improve as the season goes on and from a few of the lesser teams. One of the big reasons he has looked so good is that the line has been borderline great at pass protection. Almost all of his sacks this year are from him waiting a receiver downfield to get open and not settling for the checkdown instead of last year when most of his sacks where because there was a giant welcome mat in the middle of our line last year.

If we can keep running the ball our offense can be really good this year.

I was talking about Big Benji. But yeah, not really that "new".
And no, I respect Brady, I just think he's overrated. A good QB, I just can't label him "great" yet for the reasons above.

But anywho, let's keep it on-topic. I kinda helped drag it off, my apologies.

Both Tom Brady and Matt Cassel have the same amount of Super Bowl rings when not cheating
so if we're throwing out championships for cheating, how many Superbowl wins do the steelers lose for steroid abuse in the 70s?

Well, at least we can throw out the "one for the thumb" slogan!

Were they ever reprimanded for that by the league? If not then they lose nothing.

And call me crazy, but steroids don't seem to be as big of a deal in football. I am sure that a large percentage of the league is juicing and I don't think America has a problem with freakishly large and fast players colliding at higher and higher speeds.

Those muscles were entirely natural.

Plus, steroids were widely used by most teams in the 70s, and they weren't made illegal within the NFL till the 80s.

Man where have I heard this before....

Oh yea, lots of teams take video of other teams and their signals and it wasn't really a big deal until the comish sent out a memorandum.

1971 was when NFL cracked down on substances in general, but for some reason didn't clarify steroids until 83... it would be hard not to call steroid use in the 70's cheating.

Not that I am ever in favor of putting an asterix by any team...

:lol yeah, Jaworski wouldn't have gotten to the Super Bowl had he not been stealing signals in the playoffs... guess it's a good thing they didn't win.

captive said:

Yes, because no other teams were juiced back then. Here's a hint, roiding started in the 60s.

who should I pick up after I dump Mcfadden

Ahmad Bradshaw

As much as I want him and our running game to be good, I'm still not entirely convinced. I'd still pick him up though, we're typically capable of steam rolling over horrendous defenses and we play Cleveland and Detroit over the next two weeks.

I hope benching Sweed has the same effect it did on Mendenhall, our receiving core would be ridiculous if he would start to actually catch balls. Actually, between Ward, Holmes, Miller, and now Wallace, I'm inclined to say that we have one of receiving cores in the business. As much as I want our running game to improve, I think we should adopt a Colts like offense, we've got the personnel to do it and it's a better identity than forcing some old traditional mantra to appear "tough".

MORENO.

How is this even a question? He's clearly become the #1 in Denver. He is a threat to receive, and they still have remaining matchups with KC, Oak, and SD, all of which have terrible run Ds.
