You know, I'm usually in this thread to complain about XBLA. But today, today, I'd like to praise it.

Thank you, Microsoft for:
Having a "shop" that doesn't crash or time out every 2nd screen.
Thank you for making it quick and easy to browse the selection of titles.
Thank you for letting me ****ing download the game I've paid for in less than three ****ing hours for 2 megs.
In conclusion, kudos Microsoft, for not being the colossal ****ups that Nintendo currently are being.

No problem!

i made the check out to s. sanshiro, i hope that's ok!
lololol just j/k! ;)

Tapper with online MP is an interesting proposition. Never played the MP mode before. Maybe it will be a pleasant surprise the way Heavy Weapon is.

Hopefully the retro titles are spaced out between the rest of the next nine titles and something a little more substantial is out next week. Also, nice to have notice a few days in advance. I see all my bitching has paid off. :p

The problem has never been the service itself - rather the extremely slow teasin' dripfeed of new games. It would be interesting to see a proper low down of what (and when) each game has been released on XBLA.

I'm gaggin' to spend my points on you MS but.. it will have to wait.

"Goreomedy wants Worms on Live. Really bad. And it was promised for February. But let's hold off on that for as long as possible... oh look, the very last day of Feb is a Wednesday! That'll work out just perfect. I imagine with each passing week Gore will feel like his 360 is getting jammed up his pootmaker, so we should try to maximize that. Word on the street is he may like it, though. A lot."

And I do. But when it happens week after week I just get numb to the sensation. :(

I've experienced none of what you are describing.

Your experience clearly has much to do with mine. I don't want to get the thread off track. I praise MS for having a well-designed shopping service that works 100% of the time for me, even if I'm not always happy with the speed at which content arrives or the online issues some titles have.

A shame it's not worms.

Never played root beer tapper, whats it about?
Wouldn't be surprised if Worms will be only be released come March. My predictions:

01) Root Beer Tapper this week (d'uh)
02) Maybe Alien Hominid HD after that if we're lucky
03) Paperboy (we're all waiting for that one!)
04) Castlevania: Symphony of the Night (seemed to be 'almost' done at CES)
05) LUXOR 2 (puzzle games shouldn't take that long, right?)
06) Worms (fixing a single bug shouldn't take more than two months now, right?)
07) Settlers of Catan (see Castlevania)
08) 3D Ultra Minigolf Adventures (we haven't seen anything from this yet bar a couple of screenshots)
09) Band of Bugs (same)
10) Eets: Chowdown (same)

For me, there is such a stark contrast to how Namco presents their arcade classics, and how Konami and Midway have been doing it.

Especially for HDTV owners, the hi-def artwork on the borders, the cute electronic manuals, the Namco games just feel more "complete." Like a definitive version.

The Konami and Midway stuff feels cheap and rushed.
While I agree with you on the presentation, but Midway and Konami at least include online multiplayer / co-op in all, if not most of their XBLA releases. Galaga didn't include co-op while other versions of the same game already do and (correct me if I'm wrong) Ms. Pac-Man also doesn't include any form of online multiplayer, whilst it can be played with more than one player offline.

Haven't played Ms. Pac-Man before, so I could be wrong with the latter.

Rare working on original XBLA game

Monday 5-Feb-2007 10:33 AM Starfox Adventures and Kameo dev heading-up development for release this year

Microsoft-owned UK developer Rare is working on an Xbox Live Arcade game to be released this year, reports the latest Issue of Edge magazine.

According to the mag, Rare's first download title is a totally original game being worked on by Kameo and Starfox Adventures developer Nick Burton, along with a team of ten others.

There's no more details on the title other than that, though we're expecting something very much in the Rare style. Lots of gigantic blue eyes and fart noises, then.

Rootbeer Tapper. The Internet collectively groans. It seems as though Microsoft has learned nothing. Absolutley nothing. Nice job guys!

Just played Root Beer Tapper on Midways site, oh dear...

I would quite like the Rare game to be a Mr Pants game but I don't know if it is the right team working on it. Hopefully there will be some good stuff coming from Rare again .

Funny thing about it being Rootbeer Tapper...I was talking to bumpkin about XBLA on MSN.

2/2/2007 10:03:47 AM bumpkin: So speaking of digital distribution... When do you think SotN's going to come out on XBLA?
2/2/2007 10:05:09 AM Segata: not wednesday
2/2/2007 10:05:12 AM Segata: but the wednesday after
2/2/2007 10:05:15 AM Segata: that's where i'd bet
2/2/2007 10:05:34 AM Segata: we're probably gonna get bunk this wed
2/2/2007 10:05:40 AM Segata: like root beer tapper
2/2/2007 10:05:41 AM Segata: or something
2/2/2007 10:05:46 AM Segata: then next week
2/2/2007 10:05:47 AM Segata: bam
2/2/2007 10:05:49 AM Segata: sotn

People, the first part of the prophecy is written. Shall the second come true? Cross fingers!

I've been waiting for RBT forever.... This is seriously one of my most anticipated titles. I love the simple but addictive gameplay.

What happened with castle crashers? has it now become a summer XBLA title ? sure alien hominid HD is a nice bit of filler from those guys but I'd prefer castle crashers. One of my friends figures castlevania will be the 14th but idono if that's a confirmed thing , with XBLA it seems you never do know for sure.

I'd like it if MS got on a ball here and made 100% sure that from here on out there was 1 new game a week for xbox live arcade and for the love of god, make sure any game that's more then 10 years old that gets put up there is no more then 400 points.

So no one else saw the story with the release dates of the next 10 xbla games? Worms was on the end of the list and castlevania about 3 into it.

someone really needs to port Karate Champ to XBLA... using the dual analog sticks just like the arcade. that is my dream game for it.

The one that started like this?

Ten New Titles Approach the Xbox Live Arcade Horizon

Vampire hunters, artillery-toting worms, rambunctious aliens and trailblazing settlers are among the “likeable” characters that will soon make their debut in living rooms everywhere via Xbox Live® Arcade for Xbox 360™ as part of the award-winning service’s upcoming round of new game releases. Starting with the first release in February, 10 highly anticipated titles will begin making their way to Xbox Live Arcade, including these (titles are not listed in chronological release order):

They were listed in alphabetical order.

Amazed at all the Root Beer Tapper hate. I'd take it over 80% of the classics released so far. Great game!

Tapper along with some other classic games released on the same day = great

Tapper released by itself after a 2 week hiatus = lame

The latest press release has clarified their stance on this. Sorry if you don't value spending time with your loved ones playing Zuma or Marble Blast Ultra and instead prefer to furiously ponder further sensations of entitlement. From the very beginning, DAY ONE, the program was described as thus, "All Arcade titles will be released on Wednesdays BUT THAT DOES NOT MEAN (MAYNERD!!!!) that there will be a new Arcade title every Wednesday." I think they added the "MAYNERD!!!!" part a few months back.

:D

Seriously, this reminds me of the one - ONE - User Friendly strip that I found amusing, which went something like this:

Guy 1: When will the project be done?
Guy 2: Friday.
Guy 1: :: pauses for a moment :: WHICH Friday?
Guy 2: You're learning.

Here's what happened: Marketing and PR wanted a game out every Wednesday, dev came back, laughed in their face, and then left at noon to cap off their usual 3 hour work day.

I bought a 360 last week and I'm loving it, especially XBLA. I guess it helps that I can go over all the titles released in the last year. My only concern is at best 1 game release per week. Will this ever change? Will there come a time when we will start to see mulitple releases per week?

I'm happy Rare is making xbox live arcade titles. They should let the handheld group focus more on arcade titles instead of DS titles.

Bear, I`m shocked. What subverted you to the dark side ;)

I doubt MS will do more than one a week, because they like to give each title a place in the sun. Maybe would go one wednesday, one saturday though.

Whatever happened to the Battlestar Galactica game? I bet it'll be lame, but I'm looking forward to it regardless...

except there's only one other retro title on deck besides SOTN?
How's your math, arne? Worms, SOTN, Gyruss, Paperboy and depending on how you see it, Tetris, makes more than two. :)

Thanks for speaking for me! I had no idea that I don't want Tapper. :(

What I want from rare is a 3d, isometric top down view, live enabled, level creator included..........
That would be so radical. If we could get an artstyle that's like a mix of 8-bit and modern-day too, that would be beautiful.

...but we're just gonna get some ****ing game about some ****ing talking carrot and his plumb friends going on family-friendly adventures (with hilarious "hidden adult jokes"!). :(

**** alien hominid and it's non-co op online play
sadly i will still buy it

and where is SOTN! and worms! come on MS you assholes i keep spending more money on nintendo VC games since you aren't delivering the goods!

not on the press release they aren't! SOTN and Paperboy. and i'll stand by that. (barring acts of god :lol )

I used to really like Tapper, but I think I'm gonna have to pass on it.

How about Berzerk? Someone needs to get on that, pronto.

Online play is important. Important enough that I'm suddenly more interested in Root Beer Tapper than Alien Homonid. That was awkward to write. :\

Well hey dudes, Root Beer Tapper is totally fun as hell.

I, heh heh, I like when the guys in the saloon, hee, they totally ran my guy up the bar and off the screen. I deserved it! I totally botched up serving them root beer!

Dang, this game makes me thirsty.

Oh, and this is Midway not Namco, so don't expect to turn your 360 off twenty minutes after you download this with another 120 points in your pocket for the Old Spice fund.

But yeah. Fun stuff.

Interesting, I bashed the game for looking so assy, but it's actually very fun and charming, kind of like an old classy gameboy game. I was so close to buying it but I decided to wait until this whole MS rewards thing is sorted out so I know if I can use it to earn achievement points.

I refuse to buy old games at this point barring a few favorites IF they get updated graphically.
We need new content, enough of this fluff, what next PaperBoy, Pong, Missle Command ?
