Alright, a couple of non-Lumines Live packs have hit the Xbox Live Arcade.

Mad Tracks "Encore" Pack

http://www.xblarcade.com/node/778

Mad Tracks Encore Pack is Live

If you haven't gotten enough castle action today while playing Carcassonne, maybe you should download the new DLC for Mad Tracks. The Mad Tracks Encore Pack features 9 new races and 6 mini-games including a ramp romp in a German Castle. All this can be yours for a mere 350MSP.

Soltrio Solitare Card Pack 2

http://www.xblarcade.com/node/783

Silent Assassin: Soltrio Solitaire DLC Strikes Again

Apparently it wasn't sneaky enough to do it once, so the Silver Creek assassin came back to strike again. The victim is the same (your digital wallet) but the cause of death is slightly different (10 more new solitaire modes for 150 MSP). I'll bet until you saw this picture you didn't know the silent assassin was a busty brunette either.

Solitaire Soltrio Game Pack 2 arrived today (under cover of darkness) and includes the following new solitaire modes:
# Bristol
# Down Under
# Easthaven 2 Deck
# Easthaven 3 Deck
# Giant
# Golf Easy
# Golf (a personal favorite)
# Little Milligan
# Pauline
# Westcliff

Based on the list of modes for their PC version (titled Hardwood Solitaire...where have I heard the title Hardwood before? Hmm.) Silver Creek can still add a ton more modes in this a la carte style. I have to say I like that. Choice is important since it's unlikely that I would enjoy and play 100+ different forms of solitaire. Just sayin'.

Finally, Eurogamer has a new perview for the upcoming Sensible World of Soccer up and running.

http://www.eurogamer.net/article.php?article_id=78471

That's no dewy-eyed recollection, either, because a couple of weeks back I was fortunate enough to be one of the very first people outside of Codemasters to play an "almost finished" build of the game, based on the definitive 96/97 version that was the result of five solid years of tweaks and refinements to the already wonderful 1992 original.

Wisely, the game looks, feels and plays absolutely identically to how you remember it - which is no surprise when you realise that the game is built using the same codebase used for the 96/97 version. Rather than try and cobble together an approximation from the ground up, this is as close to the the real deal as humanly possible, complete with the same fonts, same visuals and even the same menus, sound effects and music. It's such a perfect tribute to the brilliance of the original that you'll want to pull your shirt over your head and run around the room screaming with pure joy.

Meanwhile, the most important piece of information you'll want to glean is "when's it out?" and "how much will it cost?". At present, it's looking like a late July release via Xbox Live Arcade, with a PC release planned for later in the year - possibly September, but more likely later. As revealed previously, PC and 360 gamers will be able to face-off online, which should be fun. Other details like Achievement points and such like remain unconfirmed at present, but a press event scheduled for next week should reveal all.

Okay, another bevy of updates to get through here.

Friend of the thread, XBLArcade.com is reporting that a new patch is supposedly available for Assault Heros but they were having problems downloading the patch, gotta love irony.

Finally, the Xbox.com page for the upcoming classic game Missile Command is now accessible, the current release date is TBA and will retail at the typical classic price of 400 Microsoft Points.

Latest XBLA list from Major Nelson:

Top Arcade Titles (Full Versions)
1 1 Prince of Persia
2 3 Band of Bugs
3 4 UNO
4 2 Pac-Man C.E.
5 - Carcassonne
6 6 Worms
7 9 Castlevania: SOTN
8 - Mad Tracks
9 - Soltrio Solitaire
10 5 TMNT 1989 Arcade

No XBLA games were on the top live titles list this week.

Interesting, very interesting. Band of Bugs continues to defy all expectations. Pac-Man: CE is already slipping,. a surprisingly weak debut for Carcassonne. Both Mad Tracks and Soltrio Soltaire are benefiting from the DLC boost they both got this week. Finally, Lumines Live! contiunes to exist at the wrong damn price point.

That's a great move for Band of Bugs; I hope it's successful. Ninjabee is awesome, and they keep putting out original games that are pretty unique on XBLA.

I'd love Metal Slug (and 2 and 3, heck, I'd be all for the later incarnations too) with online coop. I'd shell out 5-10 bucks each easily.

From reading the Puzzle Quest previews, it's disappointing that the achievements are so easy. This is another one of those beat the entire game and play one online match and you get all the achievements. Easily attainable within 24 hours.

Also interesting to note that there is now a spell cooldown. Guess that drops the Druid class to worst instantly with no Gust of Wind abuse.

I'm glad Band of Bugs is doing well. Even though it's not my type of game and I didn't buy it, I want to see NinjaBee stick around. Cloning Clyde was great and hopefully they make a similar game (or a sequel).

With Band of Bugs doing so well and Pac Man CE and Carcassonne seemingly falling in below expectations, I'm really glad I'm not at a publisher deciding which XBLA game to go with; it's baffling really.

The demo of Carcassonne is really underwhelming. You don't get to play really, so what you get is a video, which isn't exiting. They don't allow you to see the nuances and strategy involved.

I think word of mouth will help Carcassonne, the same way it must have brought Band of Bugs to 2nd place. The cream will eventually rise to the top.

But I'm afraid they're all going to get lost in all the Bomberman hype. It is one of the few XBLA games I've seen get a big marketing push (it will be featured on the cover of Hardcore Gamer Magazine).

Why the **** must people mess with things? Maybe a cool down in multiplayer, but the safety of having another deathbringer when the first one got resisted(because it applys to all resistances) was the only thing that got me through most of the game. I've had 3 resisted in a row for 3 straight turns.

Maybe they could fix the real problem, the resistances(ie: 40% is more like 90, and I've never hit anybody with 50%)

Go Band of Bugs!! The part when you have a ninja bee character to use was awesome.

Also, I agree with QVT. Why the hell is D3 messing with that when they need to balance it better so the computer doesn't cheat!!! **** you Bane!!!

NextGame:

Atari has announced that Missile Command be this week's addition to Xbox Live Arcade, with game set to go live on Wednesday, 4th July.

Atari has yet to confirm the price, but we can't imagine it'll cost more than 400 Microsoft points (GBP 3.40 / EUR 4.65). Actually, it's Xbox Live Arcade, so I suppose we can.

Indeed, if there must be filler, this a good week to have it, besides the XBLA is just coming off its best month ever.

If we get SPFHD and Bomberman, July could still be the best month yet.

This Week: Atari’s “Missile Command”

Mission: Defend Planet Zardon with Atari’s “Missile Command”
for Xbox LIVE Arcade

LONDON – 2nd July – Considered one of the great classic video games from the Golden Age of Arcade Games, Atari’s “Missile Command” comes to Xbox LIVE® Arcade for Xbox 360™ this Wednesday 4th July at 09:00 GMT.

While staying true to the original arcade classic, the enhanced “Missile Command” for Xbox LIVE Arcade has players acting as regional commander of three anti-missile batteries defending six cities in their zone. As Planet Zardon is under attack by an endless hail of interplanetary ballistic missiles from Krytol, players must act fast to fend off the missiles and keep their cities intact. Gliding across the sky, players complete levels by taking out all enemy weaponry. At the end of a level, players can earn bonus points for the more cities that remain and the fewer missiles that are used.

Game Features
• Beautifully rendered 3D graphics and updated music and sound effects
• Up to two players can play together locally or over Xbox LIVE
• Earn up to 12 Achievements and 200 Gamerscore points

Where can I get “Missile Command” from?
“Missile Command” is available worldwide from Wednesday 4th July on Xbox LIVE Arcade for 400 MS points.
It is rated 3+.

Well, all the signs to both coming out this month, and I also recall Sensible World of Soccer slated for this month as well. Moreover, from what I have heard, Missle Command is a far better classic translation then Centipede and Millipede. Of course, there is still peril to be had, beware the likes of of Track and Field and the Brothers Tron.

Remember E3 is next week, so we may have a surprise game...

It is possible, but unless something gets delayed or Microsoft decides to bring back the two games per week thing, the remaining releases are actually known to us, the only question that remains is the order in which they are released.

If they are releasing an Atari game for the week, they should at least release more then one. I like Missile Command, but sort of feel ho-hum about it.

They should release something along side Missile Command, this kind of release week looks like something from the dark days of January.

Anyway, in rumor news some of the eagle eyed obsessives found something interesting in regards to Geometry Wars: Galaxies that lend a bit of credence to the notion that it might be possibly coming to the XBLA.

This screenshot was taken from the Gamespot video preview of the game, seems to be the pause menu. You will note exhibit A, the word achievements seen in the menu, a staple of the XBLA. Indeed, we also have exhibit B, which by the way nobody else has pointed out yet, but the word leaderboards also appears in said menu which is another facet of the XBLA. Very interesting indeed.
