On a scale of 1-10, how well would you rate yourself at driving?

8/10 on any regular road, highway and all that. In towns? About 5 or 6/10. Never had an accident for the 9 years I'm driving but some close calls, and always in big towns. I get nervous when driving there, and considering the maze-like roads on european cities it's no surprise.

6/10. Been driving since I was 14, now 35. Used to super rural driving as in no stop lights, dirt roads and traveling for hundreds of miles on empty blacktop.

I've never been pulled over or caused an accident, but I'm terrified of lots of traffic and can't reverse for shit. I've backed into cars three times, though I only dented one. I'm overly cautious in most areas as well. Walking woman stereotype, etc. Can't park correctly, blah blah...

Though at least I've never been pulled over? Technically. A cop once flipped on his lights behind me while I was parked and offered to help me change the brake light I had just bought. Small town cops are weird.

Been driving for 9 years and never had a crash or an accident, despite driving most days. Also never got a ticket, and only been pulled over once (because I was with three mates and we were all wearing Liverpool shirts on the way back from a match, which can be a sign of drink driving - I blew 0s).

I go slightly over the limit most of the time but everyone that rides with me say they feel very safe. I'm also very well mannered and like letting people through wherever possible.

Maybe add whether you drive manual or automatic, so I can mentally subtract 2-3 points from your score if it's the latter. 😏

Perfect 10. Everyone else is probably 1 or 2.

Yes, because driving stick certainly shows how good a driver you are.

I did not say that, but it certainly takes a bit more effort and skill in comparison with the go-kart automatics people seem to love overseas. Plus, it's super duper fun.

About a 4, I am a new driver with still alot to learn but I drive the speed limits just fine. I don't tailgate anyone and use my blinkers all the time. I am still trying to get more comfortable with my reaction time and breaking. I am also trying to perfect my driving allignment.

I used to feel like that, but after decades of driving manuals, I can really appreciate an auto now.

but does that really matter? I thought we were talking "driver" as in "functional / responsible participant in car traffic" and not "git gud race car pilot".

Normal mode(30% of the time): 8.5 (super defensive driving, I give way most of time, drive neither fast nor slow)

Speedy mode(68% of the time): 6.0 (lower score because you never know when some idiot wanders into your lane or if something in the car fails or I fail to notice something)

???(2% of the time): 3.0 (please somebody stop me)

Parking: 8.0

I'm a goddamn 10. I consider everyone else to be a 1 (i.e. incompetent, indecisive and dangerous) and so drive relatively defensively. I have no problem taking my time, because I try and leave early for wherever I'm going. Having kids has also cut out a lot of my road rage (read: swearing and gesticulating).

Too many are rating themselves too high.

I'm feeling a 4. Bad driving habits like going 5 over street speed limits or 10 over highways, cause I'm always rushing to something, but have never caused an accident. I could deal to be more defensive, but I have decent spatial awareness and follow all the basics. I need a few tries to parallel park correctly.

If I'm to be honest, I'm probably like a 6 or 7 out of 10.

I follow all the rules of the road and generally am a very patient driver, but when I'm driving a route that I drive often late at night, or I'm tired, I generally tend to do really daft things... not dangerous, just baffling.

Pretty good since I leave in Athens (lot of traffic, dangerous drivers, difficult parking spots) and I do around 1000-1500 km monthly.

8/10 I have driven cars and vans for 10 years and never been in an accident. I have prevented a few accidents because I've had a good reaction time when someone has almost hit my car. I never speed and follow the rules of the road.

Is it a familiar road/area? If so 10/10 I am a damn boss. When I'm driving somewhere I don't know very well? 6/10.

Regardless I ALWAYS use my turn signals and check me blind spots.

People make fun of me for using my turn signal in parking lots or other really empty places. I'm like, why not? A habit is a habit, and you make it a habit for a reason.

Now that I think about it my new car may have made me a worse driver. If I put the turn signal on, it will loudly warn me if it is not safe. So sometimes I don't actually check. Hasn't failed me yet...
