Oppenheimer Trailer has Dropped

I'm a huge Nolan fan, and it looks good enough for what it is, but to me it's not as exciting as something like Tenet, Interstellar, Inception, The Prestige and etc.

It's an interesting subject, I just dont know if it will be as entertaining to watch as one of his high concepts movies

It's an interesting setting for a story, this hugely important project carried out by an eclectic collection of people and their families in the middle of nowhere.
This seems to be similar to the Manhattan TV show, including claims of it being a race of life and death against the German atomic program. In the show they make it clear the brass knows perfectly well the Germans are nowhere with their bomb program but keep up the appearance to keep the troops motivated.

Looks fucking great. After his last few projects I'm interested to see Nolan do something that isn't as action-focused.

This is likely to do well as counter programming for the endless CGI superhero shit. It’s not Nolan’s most exciting of subject matters, but it’ll be this years cerebral choice, and will likely do very well critically and during awards season.
Hope that what I will say will not be misunderstood. But as a historic biopic I fear that awards won't happen. Not woke enough.I hope to be wrong.
Trailer is 3 minutes, film will be 3 hours.
I can see long films. But this one would need to be really good to be 3 hours. Unless they left a lot from the trailer.

I wouldn't pay to see this in a theater but will watch at home when it's out on video or streaming.
I think he cashed in all his social capital to get this one done. Black and white, no action or capes. Definitely a long shot that it finds a mainstream audience.

Will likely be forced to do another Batman after this.
It's not black and white? Did you even see the trailer?

I'm at work and it blocks all videos. But I've seen multiple trailers for this, some in the theater, and I thought they were all black and white. Guess I'm wrong about that?

Yeah, I thought the same thing about it being black and white. Looks like it's only used for certain scenes.

Looks great to me, can't wait!

Damn, the year is 2023 and they are dropping trailers for a movie like this in low bitrate 1080p. Profanation.

yeah, people sometimes dunk on his movies for being too complex for complexity sake, but I love that he's trying to turn interesting concepts like Tenet and Inception into movies... even tho they aren't always 100% logically consistent (like the Tenet reverse time stuff wouldn't really work even within the rules set in the movie for many reasons)

I like Nolan but I won't be seeing this in theaters because knowing him the nuclear blast will be at authentic volume. I will rebel and watch Oppenheimer as a silent movie, with subtitles on.

Also I didn't buy Matt Damon's performance in this trailer at all. He doesn't fit in at all. His accent's too modern.

He ruins every fucking movie to me, seriously. And he is one of the reasons why I'm not excited for it.

When he showed up in Interstellar I went "oh boy, here we go".

Dude is always playing as himself. I dont know how to explain it, but my problem with him is borderline personal lol

Only movie that I enjoyed his acting was Good Will Hunting. And the Bourne movies.

he is probably going to make the History a disservice by focussing in time dilemmas and shit

Day 1 IMAX for sure, I know Nolan won’t disappoint. He’s one of the few directors I’d watch a movie in theaters for no matter what

Hoping it’s a success so we can actually get some good high budget non superhero movies in the future

I dont see how this movie can possibly maintain its tension through out its length if that tension is based on fears we all know full well didnt come to pass.

Hmm. It just doesn't look that interesting and I generally enjoy Chris Nolan movies.

I mean I know the whole Oppenheimer story and I never would have thought anyone would have tried to make a movie out of it whose goal was to make tons of money for the studio.

This will be one I will watch by myself or with my brother I can’t see it being something the missus will want to watch. I think still it will do solid numbers.

Those long posts don't cover that red neck boy
Its a Nolan film. Its about Oppenheimer. Its about nukes. Its about Los Alamos. Einstein. Von Neumann. All these important figures in one space.

I am just watching it just to reset my superhero rush. Nolan's movie have a strong sense of real time and reality and i love it for it.

Damn, a 3-hour rated R Oppenheimer biopic released in the summer. Surprising, even for Nolan.

Yeah I have a feeling the box office is going to be brutal for this one. This is a niche movie for a niche audience. The subject, the runtime. Good lord, what is he thinking?

'I've made enough money and am going to do whatever I want'?

Not a huge fan of Nolan's movies, especially after his "Love transcends time and space, blah, blah" Interstellar. How can someone make the concept of space travel so lame?

I hope he doesn't ruin this with his over-sentimental bullshit.

Yeah, don't think this is gonna do well. If it really 'just' cost 100 mill then it should still do well 'in time', especially if it can get awards but since it looks to be 100% white dudes + Emily Blunt I don't think it will even get looked at by the Oscars with their new "standards".

I agree that if the tension of the film is "will we beat the Germans and/or will it set the atmosphere on fire" then only the most CLUELESS millennial won't know the outcome already, unless there were some decisions made that accelerated the project or made it more safe. Seems like we will be subjected to lots of nuclear nightmares as well to give it any pizazz.

And I wonder how it got the R rating. Unless it ends with a graphic depiction of Hiroshima or something. Nudity seems unlikely. Just a lot of cussing?

Edit: hang on...yahoo article
While Oppenheimer hasn’t been officially rated yet on the MPAA’s website, the official new spot below was released today by Universal Pictures, which clearly states at the end that the film is rated R, while a closer look reveals that’s for "some sexuality, nudity, and language."

Also worth noting is that Kitty isn’t Oppenheimer’s only love interest. Florence Pugh plays Jean Tatlock, a member of the Communist Party of the United States who had an affair with the scientist.

Well, didn't expect that. First ever naked tits recorded on 65 mm IMAX tape?
