I saw all five of them and think Nolan is more deserving of a best director nom than Hooper.

I aw them all and would probably agree. The direction is not really what made The King's Speech that great. It's more the writing and exceptional acting.

And two, even if it was true there's absolutely nothing memorable about the soundtracks of The King's Speech and 128 Hours

Yeah, The King's Speech score is okay, but Desplat was nominated for the wrong score.

I swear my death-list is slowly growing at some of the responses in this thread. I'm getting my katana and motorbike ready bitches.

Kill Bill is one of the greatest achievements in film.

Also, I was gonna try and kill you too. But how can I kill someone that has no soul?

OOH SHI-

Is this a thread about the Oscar's nominations or crying about Inception? Buufrigginhuu. I could give it best original score, but that's it. There's was a ton of better movies on offer last year. Go see them.

It is a repeat of the Avatar+Cameron fans, which means the 2011 awards season has already delivered.

The Nolan snub is pretty awful. There is nothing special about hooper or o'russell's direction. Sorry.

And i'd choose gosling over bardem but w/e.

All moot points since Fincher and Firth are winning

Yeah I'm not a big fan of Inception (thought it is really fun after it picks up steam) but he deserved the nomination over the kings' speech guy and o russell.

Are we talking about the Avatar that almost won last year or what, I can't decipher who this sentence is supposed to flame bait.

I'd choose Gosling over Eisenberg myself. I haven't seen Biutiful, but I can't imagine Eisenberg out-acting Bardem. :lol

Eisenberg keeping up with a Sorkin script was some pretty great shit, I'll admit.

Still mulling over whether to see Biutiful, I've heard mixed stuff outside of Bardem.

I haven't seen Blue Valentine but I'm reaaaaaaally sure that Michelle Williams turned in the best female performance of the year. She's a really good actress.

edit: Should probably change that to fairly sure. Oh wait, Mulligan was great in Never Let Me Go though. God damn, huge snub there. film didn't get any recognition :(

I know this is one of the smaller categories but those foreign films looks really good. I want to see them all. Some years maybe one looks interesting.

I would LOVE to see Toy Story 3 get best picture, but there's no way an animated feature wins (which sucks).

Also Toy Story 3 is the weakest Pixar film in the last 3 year, so there are better films on that list.

Didn't Beauty and the Beast win best picture?

No. Beauty and the Beast was the first time an animated feature was nominated for Best Picture. There was no Best Animated Feature category at the time.

Desplat should've been nominated last year for his Fantastic Mr. Fox score.

This track alone should have gotten Deathly Hallows a score nomination.

I know my Potter-worship makes some totally disregard anything I say about it, but I'll just let the music speak for itself.

Takes it a bit to get going since it opens the film but when it does it's like ffuuuu

This is also quite beautiful. I just prefer this sort of thing in film scores I guess. I'd rather listen to stuff like this instead of Zimmer's vuvuzela score for Inception.

Hopefully Social Network wins for Best picture, cinematography, and director.

Why cinematography? I mean, it was a fine looking movie but nothing about that aspect really leaped out at me. But I agree that out of the best picture nominations, I'd like for it to win.

edit: nvm I forgot about Black Swan, but I'm not rooting for it or anything because it doesn't have a chance.

Nah Deakins needs to win cinematography award already. I just want Social Network for Best Picture and Director, and Deakins for cinematography. That's about it. Don't really care about the rest of the awards.

Agreed. Not only is his Potter score the best work he's done this year, but it's also one of the most riveting scores of the year. It definitely elevated Deathly Hallows to a whole other level.

Wait Franco and Hathaway are hosting?

Franco is hilarious and I guess Hathaway could be funny if she does her Katie Holmes impersonation.

Ricky Gervais should just crash the awards. I got nothing against Franco but that's just gonna be a bunch of ass-kissing from start to finish with these two hosting.

Imagine if Chris Rock, Jon Stewart and Ricky Gervais got the mics. No place to hide for the guests.

Why does everyone care so much to have these celebs be made fun of? I mean I enjoy it too, a good monologue is a good monologue and a funny host is a funny host, but what's with the notion that these celebs deserve it? GAF spends countless posts/threads praising directors, actors, and movies but when it comes to award shows its all FUCK YEAH MAKE THEM FEEL LIKE THE SHIT THEY ARE!

Toy Story 3 is the worst film of the 10 nominees, be happy the Academy even threw it a bone.

desplat sure gets around too. there were five scores done by him last year.

He's batshit insane. There was an interview with him I read, the interviewer asked him how the hell he wrote so many notes just for one track for Deathly Hallows, for the chase sequence near the beginning.

Sounds like his trumpet section is having a fucking heart attack. This is the track in question. The madness starts around 1:35.

It's an awards show. They're there to be congratulated.

I hate Diplo more and more every day.
Not because you, just the avatar. So, yes, because of you.

Is Social Network up for best soundtrack? If so, then I also choose that film for best OST, too.
Nope. Some of the tracks were repurposed from previous Reznor work, so it was disqualified.

Wait wait where is Andrew Garfield? SMH

Bardem is better than Eisenberg. Bardem is the only redeeming part of the film.

Except it wasn't disqualified and is nominated? Or are you trolling?

Wait, it was nominated?

Slashfilm said it was going to get pulled because a chunk of the soundtrack was based off of Reznor b-sides.
