Ok, the fun is over. After trying a little bit of DF, he seems to be better balanced now. I must now say goodbye to having fun with an incredibly overpowered class. I still kill consistently with him, but he's not the "I pretty much don't need to aim" killing machine anymore.

I can't wait to try the 2 mines Junkrat we saw on gamescom before they nerf his damage or cooldowns.

Couldn't sleep so I played 2 more games...W/L, gained 2 points lulz.

Had 4 mercy mains on my team the second game...3 of them were in a group. Why the fuck you would group with someone that mains the same hero as you I have no fucking clue.

Did 7 of my placements matches and they had all throwers. On my team.

This really is the worst season. My QP games are quality compared to this.

That's funny, I played in a game against 3 DVa mains the other day and they were also in a group. Two in that group were not very good when they flexed and we won comfortably 3-0.

My guess is because they are nice folks or friends. Rather play with good people than toxic folks even if they are god at the game, you know?

So Comp last night game me some thoughts about how I should proceed with S6 just to return to Diamond if I get placed in Plat hell again.

I might end up going Solo or Duo more often. Seems no one likes to play tank in those queues so whenever I was DVa/Winston/Zarya, I would win more games than lose them there even if I get the W/L/W/L cycle. Games are less sweaty and more manageable. Of course, you might end up with shitheads but at least the changes to S6 might alleviate the throwing.

Trio and Quad stack was hit or miss. Sometimes you win the fights but then can't manage to win the match for whatever reason.

5-6 stack has been a pain recently tho. No synergy or coordination can be real hell. I might take a break from that. It's been straight losses and I have no idea what's going on. People are not having fun and tilting. I'm just not enjoying that cuz I like to stay positive and be optimistic about winning. If people aren't even having fun then there's no reason to stack up in the first place.

like, recently? if so then you're doing your placements at the end of the season. At the end of every season, comp really goes to shit.

Played with Buttchin and ended with us stomping the team so bad that 4 guys left separately. We aggressive as fuck in our games so we had more wins than losses. I'll def give DVa her golden guns next time I have enough points. I owed her since S2.

The best streak of games I had this season was at the beginning when I did a duo stack with Buttchin. He is clearly a lucky rabbit's foot in duos.

Part of the 5-6 stack problems that I've noticed when I've been a part of the stack is that we have one loss and the group immediately disbands. It's hard to get into a group rhythm if you only play 2 games and don't stick together and analyze what happened - we do a lot of Monday morning quarterbacking here on the board but not a lot of "hey Pollux you need to work on when you use your Zarya ult" in the moment. I work and learn better from that, but it might be different from you guys.

Also we have a lot of character overlap. Me, you, Pinku, and Ned all play Zenyatta, for example. When you're in a six stack versus other six stacks, we should figure out ahead of time which roles people are best in and stick to that.

Hopefully the season 6 meta + balance changes are better for the overall vibe of the game.

I told Buttchin to stay outta team chat and we immediately started to win. So far every duo I've been with who stayed outta team chat has won games. Team chat has been cancer and not worth the hassle. People just need to stick with the group and be aggressive and we win. When Elza or Buttchin were in team chat, they said the randoms were just complaining and dying or being pricks towards each other. There is no reason to deal with that.

The hero overlap isn't a major deal in our stacks. Everyone can play a wide variety of heroes. If just depends on how good people are with their chosen heroes and how we synergize. I find our stack has been struggling even after we get 1-2 picks. I'm not gonna bother posting specific examples but it's just been a stomp which is unfun. Maybe our playstyles just don't gel anymore.

Hopefully, the reworks and buffs will change things for the better.

I think that's the key - we all have a wide pool of characters we're good with, but we need to work on which characters work the best for the group play style and our overall synergy. We also really need to work on focus fire and getting picks. I know I'm bad at callouts because I always wait until I'm dead to say "oh btw there's a Reaper behind us." :/

Don't leave placements till the last week of the season. A lot of people decide to start throwing/trolling games for some reason.

Are there any useful tips for playing soloq?

Probably everything you've heard before.

Try to fill in roles so you have a good team comp. Always need at least one Tank and Support.

Work as a team and use communication if you want. Never forget to group up.

Don't tilt and yell at people.

Hope there are no throwers/trolls.

Are there any useful tips for playing soloq?

Have a large amount of characters you are good with to fill various roles.

I recommend at least:

1 hitscan DPS (McCree, 76, Maybe Widow)
1 flanker (Tracer, Genji, Sombra)
1 specialist (Mei, Junkrat, Torb, Sym)
1 anchor tank (Rein or Orisa)
1 bully tank (D.Va or Wintston)
1 off tank (Zarya or Roadhog)
2 healers (Mery, Lucio, Zen, and/or Ana)

Don't pick first, but don't pick last.

Use your voice to call out important things only. Call outs for "Mercy is 1" or "3 people on the payload please" are all you need. Using your Mic for anything else at all is risky.

If you are not comfortable with your team comp, say it in a non-passive aggressive way.

Saying things like, "We could really use a Mercy." does nothing. It makes people feel spiteful and antagonistic towards you. Instead try, "I'd feel more comfortable with a/another healer if you guys don't mind." If no body switch, then try to make it work, because you're much more likely to win with a group of people playing what they want, than 2 or 3 people bitching at each other for bad team comp for 15 minutes straight.

SoloQ is so random. You'll have one great game where you're amazed that you and a bunch of random people could work so well together, then one where no one groups up, no one chooses heroes that make sense, etc.

Why not pick first? It's not like you're forever locked into your choice, but you are making a statement about what you're best at to the team, and if they want to flex instead they can. Unless you think you are a better flex player than most others at your rank.

I was in a match in the PTR where I heard Genji ulting and I flew away from him while chain healing my team, he couldn't do anything.

The fact that Mei's m1 becomes so useless at higher levels of play really makes me think Blizzard needs to buff the shit out of it

at least buff the hitbox wide and length
I miss the days early on where I could actually use Mei effectively, the higher you climb the less her gimmick works.

It's definitely hard to connect, if you aim it correctly yeah it's gonna hit but it requires a lot more precision which is rough for a move that puts you in range to die instantly. Missing because you're just a bit off feels pretty blah as well. He needs something else to compensate.
I'm all for making the punch not seem cheesy but yeah, by the sounds of things this is going to leave him in a tricky spot.

Doomfist is a character I find gets sunk if the initial attack or flurry either misses or fails to kill due to whatever reason, this looks to increase the odds of disastrous Doom moments.

I swear to god whenever I play Zen I have gold damage half the time.
I call this the "i've discorded the tank and I'm still the only guy shooting at it" syndrome.

Are there any useful tips for playing soloq?
As someone who managed to climb on console without even using a mic (a subset of overwatch players understandably just got triggered with that statement) I'll always consider the important things to keep in mind is that you try to stick with teammates (within reason), always observe your surroundings and try and prevent tunnel vision.
Awareness feels so key in this game, a quick glance behind you every now and then can be the difference between spotting a flanker and getting wiped by an ult from the rear.

Granted this comes from mostly Support and Tank play logic, always keep an eye on your supports folks.

I'd be up for duo/trio stacks. I've basically played this entire season solo and it's predominantly not fun. Games always seem to go smoother than QP but it seems to be luck of the drawer as to the quality of the team and frequency of cunts. That's before the luck of the drawer as to my own ability that day. Problem for stacking with GAF lot is that if I'm gonna play comp it's usually earlier GMT and no one is on. By the time wild GAF stacks appear it's 3AM and I'm shitfaced so tend to gravitate towards QP instead.

The Doomfist hitbox nerf without anything to compensate is totally going to kill him outside of pro play strictly because his counters counter him much harder than tracer or genji counter them

What happened to wait and see with new heroes, Blizzard?

Hey, that seems fine to me.

Doomfist has actually made the game less fun, so the less I see of him, the better.

It gives teammates the illusion that this is the only character you play and have no regard for their picks or team comp in general.

How many times have you heard people say shit like "Jesus... another instalock Hanzo/Genji/Widow/Doomfist"

His hitbox was objectively BS. The change was fine.

His win rates and pick rates will settle over time. I'm not saying I necessarily agree with it, but there were pros calling for him to be nerfed and his win rate at GM+ was like 60%, the highest out of anyone. I think that now his abilities aren't broken, we can see how the meta plays out.

Tracer has a much higher representation in the season 6 leaderboards than Doomfist(or any other hero with only genji and 76 behind her) and the nerf to rocket punch is only going to give her even more wiggle room

Tracer seems like a much more valid concern than Doomfist.

No, I really don't know.

If it was QP sure, but for comp it makes no sense and is a guaranteed loss. They were in their own group chat as well so.

I wouldn't be surprised if an Orisa rework eventually happens. They're trying to make her work but she feels like the most rushed hero by far of the new ones. Her purpose and role is 'does things that other heroes does but not as well' and Valkyrie just reinforces that. She's a boring character personality-wise, design-wise and ability-wise who does nothing special and doesn't really excel at anything.

and I like playing her.

It's her Ult more than anything. Her primary fire, shield, and lock down abilities are all good and can work well.

But her Ult just doesn't really mesh well with anything. I mean, it has obvious synergy with what it does, but it just doesn't seem to really work with her kit.

I'd rather see her Ult turn her into a crazy offense machine.

Like, give her the raging bull moment and charge into enemies and knock them into the air or something. Like a combination of Rein's Charge and Winston's Ult Smacks.

There's a thread going on the official forums about it.

I think the opposite direction is more appropriate. Have her fortify the entire team. This would not only be unique (because there isn't an ult that enhances the defenses of your team. All the tanks except arguably winston have an offensive ult.), it also fits her character better since she's here to protect people, rather than making them more dangerous.

It could also give a lot of unique advantages. If everyone is stuck in a grav, Orisa fortifying everyone lets them escape. It would be advantageous against a lot of offensive ults.

Win a game with only 5 people. Next game get a instalock mcCree who keeps going out of position and dying the entire game, ulting into defense matrix, and we and lose. Ah the ups and downs of ow comp matchmaking.

Really wish they implemented a block feature for your teammates. No idea how people get so high. Also really wish they put horizon in the dumoster where that map belongs.

I actually like Horizon quite a bit. I agree on the block feature. Make it the opposite of "Prefer this player": "Avoid this player"

I like that too.

My main complaint with Orisa is her lack of mobility, so I was trying to correct that. I thought it would be interesting if her Ult was actually a better version of Rein's charge.
