Sony does need to add the ability to create your own layout. Seems like it just puts your most recently used games/apps up front.
If prefer to have my games grouped together.
Depends what it is you do. TV, snapping, video chatting etc, then obviously Xbox One is better since the PS4 mostly lacks this functionality, but for general speed (installing, updating, loading etc), screenshots, web browsing etc, the PS4 is better and generally much quicker.
Hundreds of apps? Dude, what? There's like 40, lol. And that includes things like the Blu-Ray Player and CD Player.
My theory would be they rushed the console to launch at the same time as the XB1 while also deciding to add the resume/suspend feature late into development.
I disagree on web-browsing. I definitely prefer the Xbox IE browser. Also installing/updating may be faster, but being unable to pause any (sometimes huge) downloads makes that a tie at best imo.

I will never understand why some of you are so eager on so many os features.
If i want a OS that does loads of stuff ill turn on my PC.
I might watch a TV show or two but otherwise im ingame 99.9% and aslong as Party Chat is working and there are no OS breaking bugs i barely even notice the OS.
I have tried the PS4 and I will admit it was very snappy, but after a fresh reboot the Xbox feels the same. As others have mentioned, I suspect it has something to do with the suspend and resume that sometimes makes the Xbox feel sluggish, but this is easily fixable by killing the game that was running. Overall, I think the Xbox OS is miles ahead of PS4. I'm watching T.V. as we speak and just noticed one of my buddies coming online so I quickly invited him to a party and we are about to play Titanfall. These type of features is what really separates Xbox from the PS4.

if anything it makes me hate the damn thing.
You are
Fair enough on the last point. Though sometimes the PS4 completes installs in less than 1/10th the time as the Xbox One, so pausing may not be as big of a deal or requirement depending on the situation. Regarding web browsing, I believe Anandtech tested both and found the PS4 to be 2 to 5 times faster.
For me personally the web browsing is better on PS4 because of the better support for M&KB and also because its the only one that supports bluetooth mouse and keyboard. I play FFXIV with my BT mouse and keyboard connected and often check locations of items and quests on the browser.
But yeah the browser itself on the PS4 is no good. If it wasn't for mouse and keyboard I would wish I could just delete the browser icon altogether. On the other hand, not being able to use m&kb for browsing the web makes the xbox one browser basically useless to me.
So being able to watch TV is what the PS4 needs? No thanks. I have a... TV... for that.
There are definitely some gaming functions that the PS4 is missing but when I turn on my PS4 I want to play video games. Honestly, if the ps4 didn't play bluray movies, music, browse the web, I wouldn't give a shit. I have a dozen other devices that do the exact same thing. In a much more convenient way.
Oh yes for sure, I am currently playing Diablo 3 on Xbox One and hollyshit, that Suspend/Resume feature is coming in handy BIG BIG time. I can't imagine how people are playing it without this now.
As I mentioned, I tried it, I don't own one. I played mostly need for speed rivals mostly and prob spent 20 mins total with the console to mess around. For how long did you have your PS4?
It's the whole experience really. The xbox is my media center. I watch movies, tv, skype people and of course play games. The way the OS puts it all together is amazing in my opinion. So being able to watch TV is what the PS4 needs? No thanks. I have a... TV... for that.

I prefer the PS4 for quick and responsive actions. For the xbox I enjoy the presentation.
That's the difference though... WHEN you turn your PS4 on. The thing is the Xbox OS is actually making playing games more convenient. Sure if you're already thinking "I'm going to jump on the PS4 and play some Destiny, whilst seeing if Bob is on and wants to play too", then it's not a big deal. But if Bob's just randomly jumped online, for the first and only time this week, and can just invite you at any point when you're on your couch in front of the TV, then it makes you far more likely to actually play with the people you want to. It's especially helpful if you're already playing Destiny that the console actually let's you know Bob just came online...

Yes.
The suspend/resume, online notifications, voice controls, activity center, and being able to switch from tv to game instantly make me buy most of my games on the Xbox.
Mirror this sentiment also adding that party chat is so much crispier and cleaner and recording videos in games is a breeze and never takes me out. Still though I still buy my multiplats on ps4 due to the graphical disparities.
I even enjoy the controller for Xbox more plus I have to charge the battery a fifth as often.
And I don't disagree with the Bob scenario, in fact I miss the Bob scenario whenever I turn on the Xbone/last gen systems - I'd consider that part of my statement where I said there are definitely gaming functions missing on the PS4.
What I think is silly though is when people in these threads say things like, the Xbone OS is sooooo much better cause I can snap nfl scores to the screen while I watch an episode of once upon a time, or I LOVE surfing the web with my controller instead of using the tablet or PC or whatever I own. These are the exact distractions that I am looking to avoid with the few hours a week I have to game, and the precise services that distract investments from being made towards the next great game that ends up being passed on for priorities.
Not to detract from the advantages of XB1's friends system, but in your specific example, I assume most people with a PS4 also have the PS app on their phone, which supports push notifications. Even if I'm not using my PS4, or in another room, they can message or invite me to play a game and my phone lets me know so I can hop on.
Quite the opposite. I have apps hang constantly. Find myself clearing the caches pretty often.
I don't like the black on the Xbone
It's painfully boring to look at. Needs theme support. Or at least wallpapers
if anything it makes me hate the damn thing.
The Bone's OS blows.
Makes me not want to play it.
I think the XB1's UI is trash so no. I prefer the PS4's by a good country mile.
The OS is not a plus
