OXM Lionhead Interview Fable: Legends "one of the most beautiful games on Xbox One"

well shit I thought the game was coming soon since Remedy CEO said they were waiting on Microsoft to give the greenlight on the release date at SXSW.

Huh. Is this an old magazine interview that they've just put online then?

Anyway, Legends is looking damn good....

They should have not made another Fable at all. This should have been a new IP as well.

fable is a franchise that has name recognition, its the beginning of new gen, not all that surprising to see a new fable. You guys may have negative sentiment towards the game, but fable sells.

Fool me once, shame on you.

Fool me thrice...

I can only be brought back into the Fable series if there's a very, very convincing demo.

Yep, Fable does look pretty good thus far. Hope the game is good. And on the Quantum Break front, I don't mind a potential delay as long as the game is amazing, and considering how much I enjoy Remedy's work, I have nothing to worry about there.

Yeah, that's probably true. Still, you'd think the game would be much further along by now. What else could Remedy have been working on for the past couple of years?

Just crazy that it's only entering full production...

Actually it could be more than that since American Nightmare was released at February 2012 and IIRC it was made by a very small portion of the team.

So 3 years pre-production on Quantum Break? this is weird but it's Remedy we're talking about so this could be normal for them. :P

Very true. Still, kinda bummed that we might not see it this year though.

I just hope it doesn't end up like AW where it keeps getting delayed/goes dark for months on end...

Agreed. Alan Wake deserved more of a spotlight, but got killed from the delays and release date. I want to see MS's full support behind this game.

They probably spend a lot of time prototyping to make sure they get it right. MS likely demands a bigger success story this time.

So 3 years pre-production on Quantum Break?
3 years pre-production for a new IP is not unheard of. Heavy Rain for example was 3 years as well. Sometimes things don't work out and you have to start from scratch with certain ideas. Better that happens during pre-production.

The game is based around five players: four heroes, and a villain. The AI controls the characters in the absence of a human player. The villain player controls the nature of the quest the hero characters embark on, such as where enemies will spawn, how aggressive they are, when the boss will come lumbering out of its lair, when to bring down an impassable portcullis or lay a trap to separate heroes from each other to thwart them. The villain earns points over time, which can be spent on units. Two of the playable heroes have been identified so far, a Prince Charming type of character, who flourishes a rapier and wise cracks, and Winter, who is focused on will-based abilities.[1]

seems like a neat enough idea, but the above is what has me worried, from the wikipedia entry. i'm that rare person who enjoyed all three Fable games.

It's seriously looking like Alan Wake all over again if this news isn't old. I get that Remedy aren't a big team, but the time they take to get their games is just insane...

Agreed. Alan Wake deserved more of a spotlight, but got killed from the delays and release date. I want to see MS's full support behind this game.

Yeah, they really need to keep on top of this if they aren't going to make it this year. Some kind of regular/semi regular progress updates would be nice. Something like Undead Labs do whenever there's new content/patches in the work for SoD. It's not much, but it keeps the fanbase informed and helps keep expectations in check.

They probably spend a lot of time prototyping to make sure they get it right. MS likely demands a bigger success story this time.

If MS expect a bigger success, they need to throw their full weight behind the game. They sent AW out the same bloody day as Red Dead, what the hell did they think would happen?

Is that the only screenshot of Fable Legends?

I can't remember ever seeing this game, to be honest. Link?

Click the link in the OP, there's ten screenshots. We don't have any actual in game footage yet.

There's that CG reveal trailer and the ten screens at the link...

Kinda glad Lionhead are working with UE4. Engine is really good and I wonder what else, Lionhead related, they might make with it.

Bah I want to be excited for Fable Legends as I love past iterations well not 3 really, but it doesn't seem to be my kind of game anymore :\

Will keep tabs on it though I suppose

QB being 2015 most likely doesn't surprise me. SO will be among these Fall's release titles

I wonder if this game is going to be free to play? Not sure where I first heard that being a possibility. The game does look great.

And not to throw things off topic, but is the first Alan Wake worth playing now? I have it, just never played it.

I'll wait for confirmation , but QB not being 2014 would be the least surprising news this year.

There has been zero news of the TV show that's meant to run side by side with the game.
Remedy are notoriously slow , Alan Wake was revealed in 2005.
We've seen nothing official since E3 , like 6s of leaked footage and the devs have been on radio silence.

Yeah, that was odd. Can only imagine that they maybe had a couple of mock reviews that were in-line with some of the actual reviews (6-7) and thought they shouldn't bother. Hopefully they do better this time or they will end up dooming Remedy to mobile only...

What does full production mean anyway? Not heard that term used before.
Pretty normal term. First you have pre-production where you build the engine (if necessary), write the story, plan the full-production and prototype the gameplay as much as possible till you think you have something that is fun to play. The only period during production where mistakes can and should happen. Then full production with alpha, beta, gold that most of the time doesn't exceed two years since most of the pieces should be in place after pre-production and only the actual content needs to be produced.

For sequels the pre-production phase is obviously a lot shorter since features can be re-used. Also the transition to a new generation often increases the pre-production time as well.

The TV show is meant to ship with the disc. It won't air on TV.

Last I heard there is no separate tv show. All the live action sequences are components of the game and will not be separate series.

I think its safe to say Quantum Break will be a 2015 Q2 title. And I have no problem with that. And I have never played a Fable game so don't know how I feel about this game. We will see.

I hear that it won't actually be a TV show, just video you watch alongside the game while playing. Can anyone confirm or did I misunderstand?

I see no reason to doubt them on this.

But yeah, very curious on the direct gameplay bits. I know next to nothing about this title, but have a lot of love for Fable 2. Fable 3 was a soul-crushing disappointment though, so it really could go many ways.

Quantum Break in 2014 would break my heart :(

Fable Legends looks nice.
Wonder what type of game it will be due to all the "games as a service"-talk.

Alan Wake was changed significantly and they had to find a publisher in the first place.

With Quantum Break I would guess Microsoft were onboard day 1 so it will be a quicker production.
