OXM Lionhead Interview Fable: Legends "one of the most beautiful games on Xbox One"

Looks great from the shots we have, really loving the environments.

Should be interesting to see how this one turns out. Hope it's not as by-the-numbers as Fable 3.

I got yelled at a bit the last time I questioned this, but these were exactly my thoughts too. I really think that first parties should be using proprietary engines that can get the most out of the hardware. Using middleware to save costs in first party development just smacks of lower value for the consumer IMO.

Could be that they want to concentrate on developing the game? Having most of what they need already finished in UE4 allows them to allocated more time on designing the game itself.

I'm confused, is this an MMO or a single-player game you can play with invited friends like Diablo 3? Optional multiplayer is fine, but if friends owning both an Xbox One and this game are required to play, then I'm out.

I'm really looking forward to seeing this in motion. The numbered Fable games have never been technical marvels, so I think that the move to UE could do wonders for the franchise (Less time spent on engine building, and more on optimisation.)

The Journey was built with UE3, and it looked great based on what I saw in the demo. Hopefully Fable Legends will deliever as well.

You can play it by yourself.

The game is being designed with multiplayer in mind, though. You will always have three companions that will be controlled by either your friends or the AI.

So its basically the same gameplay premise as Evolve? Four player co-op taking down a single player controlled villain. Interesting.

Both games have asymmetrical design at their core (and I really want to play Evolve), but the Hero players in Legends don't face off against one player-controlled monster - the Villain controls an array of creatures, minions, traps, etc.

^ Was someone recording that on their Nokia?

The series continues to be a tour de force of great tech combined with art and a absolute bore in the gameplay department.

Shame

I really want to like this game, all the parts are there but they just don't seem to add up. It does look great to be fair, and It's hard to judge from what I have seen but I just can't get as excited for it as I want to

Doesn't look anything near beautiful to me, also seems pretty dead. Some of the animations look absolutely terrible as well.

I think their first mistake was to show off the MP. Fable games are much easier to sell on SP. Showing the world Albion in all its glory with some story mode gameplay and then maybe a teaser of the co-op would have probably gone over better.

Fool me once, shame on you.

Fool me thrice...

I can only be brought back into the Fable series if there's a very, very convincing demo.

Only thing that would bring me back to Fable is if they went back and re-did everything and actually built a game on the promises they made a decade ago.

Looks pretty awful (not graphics wise, the effects are neat).

Bad, jittery gameplay with uninspired level design and little to no depth.

I'm glad you quoted me on this, since I didn't even remember replying on this thread before.
But yeah, let's just say that what we've seen of this doesn't even begin to get close to "convincing".

The art style kinda reminds me of Kingdoms of Amalur. Didn't get much from the gameplay though since the guy controlling it just kept repeating the same attack over and over.

I have a horrible feeling that is the singleplayer too, just with AI squadmates instead of other players.

I dunno about other threads, but in this thread, many share his sentiments.

Huh? Half this thread is about Quantum Break being said to be going into full production and 3/4 of the other half are about the images that were released last month. There are only a few replies about the E3 demo here.

As a fan of Fable, i really dont want this, looks amazing but the gameplay is dull..where is the mainline fable single player? Its frustrating because the studio is shackled this unwantwd game.

Looks good. I hope it stays faithful to the Fable formula (quests, housing, etc.) in some regard but it doesnt look like it which is pretty disappointing.

Don't they have another unannounced project in the works?

I expect this game to be free to play in the end.

I count 4 people (5 if you count me), that think the gameplay isn't great. I don't suppose you think them all as trolls.

EDIT: make that 6.

Yup, not what I want from a Fable game and the news that this is going to be episodic with seasons makes me want to cry.

Just give me a proper Fable game using this engine. I have no interest in playing a better looking version of Heroes.

If the presentation, story, and gameplay are solid... all will be forgiven in my case. The Fable games were pretty tired by Fable 3, so a new take is fine with me. I'm most worried about gameplay depth and customization in general. If there are a lot of different abilities, armor sets, and weapon types, I could be very happy with this game.

Looked pretty boring and the graphics weren't as mind blowing as lead to believe. Hardly looked like a Fable game which is no surprise. Should have let it die after that on rails Kinect abomination.

I want this Fable game to do well because I want a real Fable game using UE4. Game looks really good and the open world nature of the Fable series will make the real Fable sequel way more interesting.

While this game does not look the deepest so far, I am sure they have loads of other characters to play as and the co-op stuff looks like fun! Also....it has shiny loot in it.

It looks to me like the game doesn't have a true single player. The idea of having a player control everything as the villain sounds cool for a separate multiplayer mode, but not when the entire game is surrounded by it. I'm very skeptical about this one...

Yeah but it can be still played single player only from what I heard, you'll just have 3 A.I. companions though.

Fable 3s problems weren't that its 'formula' was getting stale.
