OXM Lionhead Interview Fable: Legends "one of the most beautiful games on Xbox One"

Fable is an awful series. This could be the greatest graphics on earth and I wouldn't pay a dime for it.

This game has potential bc of the sheer fact that Peter Molyneux isn't hyping the game beyond belief and promising a ton of things

In the youtube video you can see some very brief game play moments

It will be a very nice looking title

  • made with UE4
  • They made dynamic lighting for it
  • I'am expecting similar art style to sunset overdrive but better lighting, higher polycount + better textures
  • in the video you see a sword strike animation you can see there the lighting looks nice and particle swoop looks next gen.

I hear that it won't actually be a TV show, just video you watch alongside the game while playing. Can anyone confirm or did I misunderstand?

No it appears it's some weird "chapter " after you complete a chapter in game.

Alan Wake was changed significantly and they had to find a publisher in the first place.

With Quantum Break I would guess Microsoft were onboard day 1 so it will be a quicker production.

MS were on board from 2006 , the game launched mid 2010. Remedy managed 1 game a DLC pack and an iOS game the entire 8 year generation.

I just wish this was Fable 4. I don't like co-op games but I do like Fable. This game can't even be played single player, right? I'm also the only one in my friends group with an XB1 so I'd have to play with randoms. Ugh.

Too bad it's a co-op "games as a service" platform and not a huge single-player RPG. They can remove Kinect and drop the price, but the games still have the stink of the old Xbone. That includes Quantum Break with it TV show tie-in nonsense.

I'll wait for confirmation , but QB not being 2014 would be the least surprising news this year.

There has been zero news of the TV show that's meant to run side by side with the game.
Remedy are notoriously slow , Alan Wake was revealed in 2005.
We've seen nothing official since E3 , like 6s of leaked footage and the devs have been on radio silence.

Here you go.

Play Game, Make Choices in game / Watch 30 Minute Episode w/ Influences of your choices in the game (custom cut) / play game.....

You dont have to watch the TV show (optional) since its 2 different stories (but told in the same place and time)

And not to throw things off topic, but is the first Alan Wake worth playing now? I have it, just never played it.

PLAY IT

Ha, this one probably will be good now that I don't have a chance to play it. Seems like every other Fable just couldn't live up to the hype, although I did enjoy them.

I'm pretty sure you can play single-player. What you can't do is play solo. You'll always have the other members of the team, but they can be AI rather than other players if you don't want to go online and play with randoms.

I was very disappointed with Fable 2 and 3 and never tried the Kinect version, so I'm hoping this game is a bit of a return to form. The only Fable title I've liked was the first one.

Anyone else getting Dishonored vibes with this picture?

Hmm probably just me but that was my first thought.

Let me express that the GI they are using is impresive, but the polygonal detail / texture detail of the models they have shown is not that great. Being cartoony does not mean you need to skimp out on round edges or high detail meshes.

Quantum Break has only just hit full production? Another one they showed way too early. No way it's coming out this year then.

Does anyone here actually know the definition of "full production" and in what context it means for finishing this specific game?

It could mean they just started building the game world and assets. It could mean all assets and planning are done and they're just putting it all together to make a finished product. It could mean the "movie" part is done and the final game is full tilt. It could mean the game is near final and the "movie" is full tilt along side the game too now.

Who knows??

As for Quantum break, ''Full Production'' can mean different things for different companies

for example using cerny/naughty dog method

you have 6 month pre production, then 12-18 months production time.

I dont know how remedy makes there games maybe they have more planning stages and then ''full production'' is just 6 months of number crunching?

I dont think they would have showed as much as they did if they are 12 - 18 months away from today. Then again may 2015 aint to much longer then fall 2014 so who knows.

What if they mean full production of the TV Show aspect?

Going back and playing through all of them (not the Kinect version), I like bits from each. I loved the original Fable's progression and story, I loved Fable 2's customization, expanded morality and expansive environments (realizing I could explore all of Bower Lake coming from Fable 1 expectations was a defining gaming moment for me), and I really loved Fable 3's easier travel and the stripped-down gameplay (in some ways; in others it worked against it.)

They're all good games, personally, although I see why they don't appeal to people who like JRPGs.

I'm looking forward to Legends as coop always interests me a lot. The statement about graphics is kind of goofy though considering there's only a half-dozen games really vying for the graphics title on the console right now anyhow. If someone said their game "was the best looking on PS4" it'd be pretty bizarre a statement too. At least it wasn't Lionhead themselves saying it :)

Isn't this basically like saying: My Son is "one of the cleverest students in set 3".

The game may or may not be good (I'm not optimistic after Fable 3) but just the specific way that the graphics were boasted about was weird.

Feel a bit sad for Lionhead now without Molyneaux, I actually liked Populous and Black and White.

Has Lionhead ever aimed for core gamers with the Fable series? It seems to sell well even though a large chunk if not most of hardcore RPG players have stopped caring for it. I wonder if the incentive to appease us is even there, or ever was.

I'm skeptical of anything Lionhead produces after being disappointed multiple times. They'll need to release something really good for me to buy one of their games again.

The first Fable to me felt like it was far better planned and executed. The story and characters struck me as far more interesting and entertaining, the world seemed better designed, and I enjoyed the combat more. My main issues with Fable 2 is that the fights had a dumbed down feel to them, and the world didn't seem to be all that interesting. Or maybe dumbed down is the wrong choice of words, but it didn't feel anywhere as rewarding to do things in combat as it did in the first game. You felt like you belonged to the world in the first fable, whereas in the second, I don't know, it just didn't feel right. It also probably doesn't help that a bug destroyed my entire save game, forcing me to start from scratch, which I never did.

Whatever method that is, it ain't ND's. The Last of Us was in development for 4 years combining pre and full production.

Yeah I agree I love the art though. This new one is certainly gorgeous looking I just hope it's actually got some depth to it.

You work for ND or something?

Cos wiki said this

Naughty Dog worked in secrecy on The Last of Us for two years after completing Uncharted 2: Among Thieves prior to announcement

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Last_of_Us

and all the uncharted have been on a 2 year cycle.

I'am only presuming ND use a method like that because Cerny worked for them, and most of there games are on a 2 year cycle.

I did say it was changed significantly. And they did 2 DLCs for Alan Wake and American Nightmare, iOS game was a separate team

Probably just because it was demoed at last year's E3. TherSony'a certain expectation you'll actually get the game in the next 1 1/2 years after seeing it on stage, and I don't think that's unreasonable. That seems to be less and less true these days though. I have a feeling there will be a lot of that at this year's E3; lots of stuff that's end of 2015 or 2016 and beyond. Kind of pointless to be showing games this early. (Beyond marketing obviously.)

Which is exactly why I don't like the way MS I'd announcing things. Some people may like it but I feel that while it's cool now, it'll make the games get old way before they're out. Take Halo 5 for example, it's coming out late 2015, that means that by the time it's out it will have been at 3 E3s. Black Tusks game is now cancelled. I'd rather they take Sony's current approach of keeping the as close to the chest as possible till they're ready.
