Cherno Alpha was the fucking tits, I was bummed to see it get taken out so fast. The interior and armor for the pilots looked amazing, they really went balls to the wall with the beat-up 80s Soviet military tech theme. Fingers crossed for good box office numbers now.

I recently watched Hellboy and found the Nazi succubus rather appealing. The director really likes strong women.

I'm actually kind of surprised that there's a literal portal to another world. I thought the Kaijus were just deep underground or something.

I could not have conceived a more soviet looking jaeger. it was glorious. Everything from the pilot's suit to the jaeger and weaponry screamed "From Behind the Iron Curtain".

I was freaking out over Cherno that it took my girlfriend making a comment about how sexy the Russian female pilot was to get me to notice her.

I've always had a thing for a woman who can kick my ass. So, this was very much relevant to my interests.

Too tired to post more long form stuff right now, but the use of Crimson Typhoon and Cherno Alpha was one of the only parts of this movie that I felt was terrible. Killing them off so quickly did almost nothing. They could have killed just 1 to raise the stakes if they wanted that function. Even if they did that, they should have developed the pilots and given the mech at least 1 good fight before killing them. The russians had hilariously great designs, but did not exist as characters. I feel like I never caught more than a couple frames of the Chinese Triplets, so I can't even comment on their design.

Oh my gosh you guys I can't stop thinking about this movie. It just hit all the right notes for me. I even loved the scientists guys, including older -not Charlie Day- scientist. His "By jove" handshake killed me!

I know, I'm still stunned by awesomeness

I almost feel like the budget was the thing holding those Jaegers back. It just seemed like the script was setting them up for their time and glory, but they just ran out of money to keep their appearances up or something. Does that make even a lick of sense? We already know other Jaegers were kept from this movie because of budgetary reasons.

Also, a girl I know just asked what Pacific Rim was. Sigh.

I know, I'm still stunned by awesomeness

I might even change my Kaz-man avatar to something more Rim-related.

So much that could have been done. So many questions that could have been answered.

obviously my love is for the Russians so i will focus on them.

They were RUSSIAN! It's Russia. Secretive, mysterious even now. So, with the Kaiju threat they had to put aside their differences to work together with the rest of the countries. But, how much did they contribute? Their jaeger design was the most different so i am inclined to believe that they stuck to their own style. How much did they allow other countries to contribute if at all?

The pilots: who are they? What is their story? how were they chosen? How rigorous must their selection and training process have been?

I loved the moment where one of the military people comment about the Russians being stationed in Siberia for a really long time and the look of pure shock on everyone's faces. The slight references to how damn hardcore the russian Jaeger was only made the early death sting more.

I felt that any time spent on trying to explain the "why" of the kaijuus was time wasted. Let monsters be monsters. Give a brief explanation if you must, but then drop it. I didn't really care about all of the clone stuff or their master plan or connecting with their brains. It was the human elements that made the film grounded and interesting, not any of that.
The film could have cut the scientist duo and it would have been fine, if not better. Let there be a little air of mystery to it, because at the end of the day all that matters is that humanity overcame a huge threat, and that was the driving force of the plot. Soo much time was wasted on characters whose only function by the end of it all was to tell the main characters that they needed to drag a kaijuu into the portal (which in itself seems like an unnecessary mechanism for the story).

Now we wait for the director's cut blu ray with extended fight scenes. I want to believe...

That was a highlight. The mention of Siberia added to their badass rating.

Still, now I cling to the hope of some great features in a bluray director's cut that goes into the background of Cherno Alpha and Crimson Typhoon since they were gone too soon.

I forgot how the line went but it was something like:

Rowley: I thought we were a resistance. How did you get enough firepower for that missile?
Pentecost: See those people over there? They're Russian.

Bullshit. I've had enough of mindless monsters wreaking havoc for who knows what. Giving the Kaiju actual intelligence raised the stakes.

I'd love a longer series of prequel comics (or even better, an animated TV show) that delved into the back story for all the Jagers and gave stuff like Coyote, Cherno and Typhoon more time to shine. There's so much history to draw upon for some great side stuff.

But they were just cloned weapons, right? I also didn't say they needed to be mindless, I just mean there wasn't a need to explain them. They seemed smart and I liked that.

Prequel comics would be enough for me. Let's see how the jaegers earned their kill counts.
Pilot backgrounds, selection and training process.

So much potential.

Oh, and I need a Cherno action figure.

The amount of possible backstory to expand upon is perfect for more prequel comics. They've build a great world to work with here.

Yeah, but they were being controlled by the alien leaders, who were the intelligent ones. I just liked that it went the extra mile to make them not-random bashing monsters. They had a purpose and a plan. I loved that.

i was more bored by how much they kept talking about the neutral link stuff

My one complaint, that may already be mentioned, is that the midpoint before the next monster battle dragged on for a while, but the character interactions were good nonetheless.

The fights themselves were awesome, and the IMAX 3D audience that I was with was really excited about them, including the fight against that winged kaiju.

CHAIN SWORD, BITCHES!!!

A Cherno figure would be glorious. Absolutely glorious.

If they really want to take my money, make a Pacific Rim game in the style of War of the Monsters (ps2). I'd need new pants after that was announced...

Pure evil. He bashed in Cherno's head.

Man, if I could find someone talented enough at making costumes, I could totally cosplay as Leatherback. What with that fat gut of his. XD

EDIT: Oh wait, hers. It was the one that was pregnant. Right?

Not enough Cherno Alpha and Crimson Typhoon. :( Especially Cherno Alpha; I loved seeing its team bash Otachi's brains in. It felt like we got nowhere near enough of them.

Movie was still awesome. I didn't actually mind the slow burning parts, there was still a sense of anticipation and danger as they got ready for the next attack. Holy shit, that scene where Otachi flies Gipsy Danger into space and Gipsy pulls out the chain sword made the entire crowd cheer. And while the final battle wasn't as glorious as the Hong Kong fight, seeing Gipsy cut one of the swimming kaiju in half just made my day.

The flying bat/scorpion thing was the pregnant one. Leatherback was the one that died much earlier. Mentally, I kept calling him the Donkey Kong kaiju since I forgot his name

Wooooooo!

Saw it in IMAX 3D, Shit blew me away. I usually think 3D is a nuisance but it worked great here, really immersive. Fucking movie kicked ass. Yeah I would agree with others my main gripe was that the other jaegers existed only so briefly, they were so unique I would have liked to seen more. And I would have liked to see a little more throw down at the end. But really just minor complaints thrown against waves of awesome. Movie had great style. Would watch again. And again.

To me he was King Kong Kaiju. The one with wings was Pterodactyl Kaiju. The baby was Baby Kaiju. Knifehead was motherfucking Knifehead. And the category-5 kaiju was Final Boss Kaiju. Made sense in my head.

Amazing movie...but so much wasted potential with the other Jaegers (Typhoon and Cherno) getting taken out so early, and so easily. It's my only complaint about the movie, really. Makes me wonder why they bothered animating them if they were going to survive all of 5 minutes in an actual fight. I'm just bitter my favorite got taken out like a bitch. The real stars of the movie were the Kaiju.

Seriously, they were fucking sweet. They all felt like individuals, and they always seemed to have unique surprises in store. Leatherback's EMP, Knifeheads... Knife head, the category 5's tentacle spin and surprising durability, and Otachi's everything.

I think Otachi being pregnant was a reference (Or jab) at the execrable 1998 Godzilla movie. But in Pacific Rim, it actually worked.

I loved how it was revealed that these aren't random rampaging idiot monsters, but aliens with an actual plan. It made that final scene where the alien leaders look in terror at Gypsy Danger exploding that much sweeter.
The glorious thing about that scene is that it's an intentional reversal of the kaiju situation; after so many years of humans looking up in terror at the giant monsters sent from another dimension to destroy them, now the masters get to experience the same thing.

In a movie like Man of Steel, they would have told you that in some narrative talkover. In Pacific Rim, they just let you watch the fireworks and enjoy the show.

So what are the odds of the "other world" opening up another portal as soon as they've recovered from the explosion? Seems like if they can do it once they should have little trouble doing it again.

It's only if the "other world" can get enough funding from the ancient twin brothers that used to hold the once Legendary powers to see their initial attack on the humans as a success. If so, then the alien leader Toro will get to work on construction of a new portal.

Damn skippy. I couldn't love it more.

It's sad how much of a letdown the music was...but at least the main theme kicked ass. I still can't get it out of my head.

I liked the movie but, it was despite the actors and not because of them. Most of them were inoffensive but, the 2 scientist guys usually pissed me off, especially the guy from sunny, his voice is worse than being fucked in the ear.

Hopefully this doesn't flop, fun movie, empty theater.

I fucking knew it, I pieced the shit together from the trailers, what a complete waste

My main problem is that those stat cards that show the kills don't mean shit to me because I've never seen it, every single person going into this movie was going to gauge the worth of these machines based off what they did in the actual movie so as far as anyone was concerned all of the Jaegers kill count was at ZERO

Man Del Toro better do a prequel mini series on HBO because they deserved better than that shit

Cherno was so fucking cool

They killed a giant scorpion-bat in space with a sword wielded by a giant robot. And sometimes that's all you need for a movie to be awesome, which Pacific Rim was. I really hope we get a sequel.

King Kong, Rodan, Baby, Guiron from Gamera, Final Boss.

I like how the heroes survive. Hope Del Toro can work out a deal with Toho so Godzilla can fight with then team up with the Jaegers it would be the greatest thing since Pacific Rim.

I think two times when the audience in my theater gasped, it was when Gipsy Danger was thrown away from water to the streets of Hong Kong and the other is when Gipsy Danger slashed the Kaiju with its sword then kinda stays in the space for a while.

I have laughed at movies, I have cried at movies, but this movie made me say "Holy shit." out loud in the theater.

The second fight scene has to be the best action scene ever done in cinema. From the destruction of two jaegers to the random awesome sword never mentioned before, this blew me away like nothing else.
