Yeah, this really bothered me while watching the movie. It just seems stupid that they'd punch these things instead of just taking out the sword or that plasma cannon. Just "check their pulse" first thing instead of smacking them around causing all that collateral damage to the city.

Anime rules: save best move/weapon for last.

It is good to see Del Toro's habit of creating awesome secondary characters only to dispose of them five minutes later in a battle where they die like a bitch continues.

My one big quibble with this movie is that Mako felt pretty subservient to Raleigh while in Gypsy Danger. Aside from pointing out the sword, she was always quiet and taking his commands. I was hoping for more of a partnership in their two battles. They certainly made a point that she was very talented in the simulators, she just had problems with the drift.

Let's face it, this isn't a movie we should be thinking too much about. There's all kinds of stupid stuff that happens mostly to enable cool moments. For the most part, that's enough.

Very disappointing film. Idris was the only lead actor that wasn't absolutely f-ing annoying...maybe the dad was a close second. Score was forgettable and not suitable for the movie. Script was bland. The lead kid reminded me of the dude from Tron Legacy - not a good thing.

The fight scenes were sorta cool, but with the camera zoomed in all the time you lose the sense of scale you should have during that sort of thing. Might as well have been Master Chief fighting some alien creature. Also, you can only trade punches for so long until you bore the audience to death.

Finally, you can only get through the wormhole or whatever by attaching yourself to alien DNA......but apparently communications and escape craft have no problems. Stupid fucking plotholes. Script writers have no guts these days. Can't you just let the team die in service to humanity or must you absolutely keep them alive for a sequel?

This film made me get all childishly giddy. Scenes like little Mako running away, her shouting when they got the sword out, the kaiju having wings, Cherno have extending arms and lots more, so in that respect I think the film really succeeded.

If I had seen it when I was twelve I'm pretty sure I would be talking about it for the next few weeks. I loved it.

When Gipsy first released the sword I was beyond psyched when it looked like Epyon's whip from Gundam Wing. I wish they had used it like that at some point.

Punching was first b/c they wanted to beat the monsters without getting their guts all over the place. It caused a poison they said earlier in the movie.

That was probably the biggest thing that bothered me. He was talking constantly while they fought and she barely said a word. Kinda made me feel like she was not even there.. I wanted some banter back and forth as they fought together darn it.

I think the kaiji giant bat wings were more like homage to Cthulhu. At this point I think it's safe to say that Mountains of Madness won't be coming for strange aeons.

I really hope this does well enough to get a sequel. I would love to see a movie flesh out the 10 years before the film takes place.

Need more Jaeger's

$3.6 million Thursday night which is a positive. Still too early to tell what this weekend holds but it looks like those mid 20's tracking numbers were off.

Need more Jaeger's

I know the plot sort of needs the other Jaegers to be destroyed but even from what we did we see of the different Jaegers in the film, this would be on the top of my wishlist. Just seeing the different countries with different weapons and designs would be really cool.

Cherno is still the best.

surprised that no jaeger had brass knuckles with all the punching.

Great fucking movie. Cherno <3 Too bad he didn't get time to shine. I would've loved seeing them and CT kick more ass.

You know, the whole co-pilot trial sequence made me wonder why the gipsy didn't have a bo-staff type of weapon or an actual katana. Would that have been too silly? And there barely seemed to be any correlation between the protag's fighting style and how he pilots the mecha.

That whole scene was about finding compatibility between the pilots and how they could get in rhythm during a fight and keep the pace, not necessarily representative of the moves they were going to perform. The mechas weren't that agile anyway, so I'm not sure a lot of those moves could be performed the same way.

Totally. Focus on how the jaegers earned their kill counts.

Also, I need to see Cherno guarding the Russian coast.

I ran into a guy at Starbucks this morning that is friends with the dude who did this concept art! He was holding a Making of book so I struck up a convo with him :)

Did you get a look at the book? What did you talk about? Did it go something like this:
you: *points at book* Dude!
dude: I know!
you: Holy shit!
dude: yeah!

etc.
After the giant chain sword was pulled out, she could have said anything and I would have loved it.

It felt like I was watching a live-action Saturday morning cartoon. All the wonder and cheesiness included.
I can't help but feel that some people made up their minds before watching the movie. They weren't going to be happy any way.

Needed two Category 4 kaijus to take it down.

I really hope the Bluray release has extra scenes with these two.

It's like they look so awesome and interesting and I want to know more about them!

Gipsy seemed to favour it's Plasmacaster early on instead of the sword.

I thought it was overconfidence as well.

Defying orders, underestimating Knifehead.

Even if it's in the form of short featurettes. Something like breaking news clips in their country's language showing clips from their latest victories.

Anything really. Come on, Del Toro. My money is ready for the bluray preorder.

For any of you guys that digged the movie as I did, and got an itch for some giant battlin' in your video games. Check out Robot Alchemic Drive and War of the Monsters. Both for PS2! War of the Monsters is also on PSN!

R.A.D. Is probably the closest thing to this. Such an awesome game.

BTW, do NOT buy the Pacific Rim game. The trial makes it look kinda like one of those fun Godzilla fighter games, but then you realize it's a free-to-play game that you spend $10 on.

Not all of the Jaegers are in the game and some of the kaiju you have to buy if you want to play as them. About $4 each.

There a customization mode where you can build your own Jaeger using parts you earn from EXP. They are just taken from the four (EDIT) sorry, THREE Jaegers in the game so you can build your own from there.

Oh? Want to add some textures, logos and paint to you customized Jaeger so it's not just grey? THREE MORE DOLLARS!

Is your EXP going to slow? BUY MORE EXP!

Also, this game has tons of missions! Fight this monster! Fight this Jaeger! Fight this other monster! And so on!

Also, textures that are barely passable on an original X-Box, but hey! At least you're getting 60 FPS.

Bumping this thread because too many people are posting spoilers in the main thread.

On a sidenote, the trailers for this movie really should have used the main theme.

It's disappointing to hear that, but I guess I shouldn't have been surprised by Yukes.
