I cannot fathom why they didn't either launch with this, or at least tell people 60fps was coming in a few weeks. They would have avoided so much negativity...

It's probably been piss poor sales on PS5 so Rockstar green-lit extra development time to improve the framerate to help save/salvage sales.

Don't dare think Rockstar did this out of the goodness of their hearts.

I'm sure it took a lot of work and money to change that text in the ini file.

I'm sure 60 could be patched in but Rockstar is greedy.

Yup

Greedy and Lazy.

Which means they definitely won't attempt to rework the code on MS' behalf to try to submit a patch.

Probably not worth putting a price on it either since Xb users have had BC versions of the game for quite some time now.

Multi billions company couldn't port their lazy ps360 50$ remaster port at 60 fps on PS5 day one? Oh yeah too busy milking that GTA online thing

Sadly this is the PS4 RDR port running on PS5 via BC. Would've been nice a dope ass PS5 boxed release, but Rockstar gonna Rockstar.
Anyway, the physical release comes later this month on October 13.
I gotcha. I don't think I'll be buying any physical PS4 games anymore. Only in cases where they don't have PS5 boxes.

But you never know. Could be a cool deal for like $20 or something eventually.

Still not paying more than £20 for this. Greedy, lazy pricks, game was running at 60fps on a modded switch. I can wait for a sale.

There is no native PS5 version either. This is PS4 Pro version running on PS5 (apparently there is a 60fps mode on Pro too).

But Xbox is running 360 code in virtual machine. MS could easily add FPS boost for it, I bet there is some corporate politics preventing this.

Who's laughing now Xbros?

Not me, because thats the version I have.

You still have the best version. 60 fps unlock causes obnoxious bugs and timing issues just like it always has on PC ports of Rockstar games. Yeah smooth is nice but if the 30 is rock solid stable then it's fine. I have a 7950x3D and a RTX 4090 and I'll still happily cap to 30 for certain things.

Just another reminder to never buy games at launch, you pay less, you get more content, you get better optimization and less bugs.

YEP! I live by this code. Spiderman 2 will be the first game I buy at launch in a year. And I'm starting to wonder if I even should.

Is it still 4k though on PS5 when activating 60fps?

I cant believe Rockstar did this for free.. I must be dreaming
For some reason I thought it was just 1080p, but 4K 60fps makes it basically perfect to play now, apart from minor enhancements. I'll give it a shot.

The only corporate thingy is coming from MS as they previously announced their BC program was over.

They had 2 years to implement this and they didn't. Clearly Rockstar was preventing it. Now they released remaster for a high price so updating it with 60FPS support doesn't butthurt them that much.

I bet we will see 60FPS RDR2 only in a "remaster" form, not with some basic patch.

Three pages of tears STILL over the price, visuals and the usual penny pinchers feeling the need to announce to everyone how they'll wait for a sale. Absolutely no one's actually tested or played it yet with the update intact. Of course :messenger_tears_of_joy:

You obviously know nothing about emulation. If it was as simple as flipping a switch every single game would have boost.

There is no conspiracy theory or any bullshit. The simplest answer is most likely the correct one: They don't care and MS is done with BC.

It's the same game running at a mere 60fps, do you think it's going to be a completely new experience? 🤡

I agree that they don't care.

But flipping the switch is exactly what they needed to do, you can see how easy is to make locked PS4 games run 60 on hacked PS5. Xbox emulaton fps boost is also quite fucking clever in it that FPS boost doesn't brak in game physics since it's done after many rendering phases on DX level:

EVEN IF game is not running locked 60 for some reason they can just drop resolution scaling factor from 300% to something lower (just like Series S is running some 360 games in 1440p).

Uh no? Dunno where youd get that notion. However, as one of the two people on this forum that actually bought it, Im looking forward to seeing how it performs later tonight.

Yeah, well. I actually bought the damn thing on PS5. Because I had never played it. Didn't even finish the intro because 30fps on OLED, especially with no proper motion blur, looks like ass.

Now with 60fps it's better, for sure, but still it's veeery lazy as far as remasters go. I'm still glad Rockstar didn't go the GTA trilogy route, because it would have been much worse, but you'll be seeing a lot of pop-in and terrible textures (played it for a few hours).

Im up to Mexico and I dont think the textures are "terrible" at all. They're definitely improved. And you never played the original so you have no basis of comparison unless you've been looking at screenshots.

I may have no point of comparison, but just judging by current standards, yes, the textures are terrible, even without quotes. There are games where simply upping the resolution does wonders for image quality (like Persona 5 -> Persona 5 Royal, the jump from 1080p to 2160p is awesome), but in this case, I think a lower resolution and better post-processing would have been a better choice.

Terrible to you.

And how can you even tell a difference in Persona? Its super stylized and cartoony. It'll always look fresh. I dont think an additional 100 pixels will all of a sudden make my brain melt. Holy shit there's now additional spikes on Ryujis head! WOW!

I have Royal and I notice zero difference, but thats me as Im not some slave to visual fidelity. Still a fantastic game.

And how can you even tell a difference in Persona?
Because I have a large 4K screen and good enough vision? It's not transformative or anything, but noticeable if you have, like, eyes. Whereas simply upping the resolution on older games (with very different art styles) may not have the desired effect, this latter part was more my point. So this game at 1440p, with better post-processing and AA, would be preferable to me instead of a 4K output.

I have a large 4K screen as well and I see zero difference dude. No need to be a dick about it, but seeing as your avatar is a grotesque, fat, retarded looking woman, hey no surprise there :messenger_grinning_squinting:

It's well and truly the definitive version now. Not sure why it wasn't ready at launch, but it's here now. I think i'll order the PS4 physical version when it drops.

RIP Xbox Series X BC version, you shone brightly while you lasted and even held your own against the remaster.
