Enjoying the little I've gotten to play so far, but damn, that text on PS5 is TINY and my old man eyes are having trouble with it. Also, the game randomly turns into a slideshow and there's definitely some input lag, but I suspect that's a server thing.
There should be an option to change the UI size in the settings

I'm playing as warrior and having the time of my life. Hate to make the comparison but with this class, between the blocking and dodging, it really feels like a souls game. Plus the mechanic of building stun is fun and very engaging.

I've made some progress, just beat a boss in a mausoleum and it's been the most kino bossfight I've seen in a game like this one. Very good stuff.

I really don't know why people don't like that comparison. It's a huge compliment to GGG imo. I think it's why I like Warrior the best. It's my DS/Diablo dream game. Rogers is the man.

Not an OG fan. I thought it was ok, but the combat sucks. This game is like what D2 was to D1 but even better. This game will make a legion of new fans.
Felt the same as you about the first game despite putting maybe 100 hours into it. The combat never felt very good. This is a huge improvement, really like having gold for vendors and the uncut gems. WASD controls with ranger is really fun. I will definitely be a POE 2 player.

Combat is definitely more engaging (most important aspect in ARPG) versus D4. However, everything else goes to D4 (Graphics/Animation/Story/World).

I'd prefer to wait for the full release, busy with Darktide, Black Ops 6, Plague Tale Requiem and Soul Reaver Collection coming next week. I wonder if it will have trophy support since it's Early Access 🤔

What are you playing on? PoE 2 is way prettier to me. Animations as well. Impact of attacks. Particles. The list goes on. I'm a Diablo fanboy, I still play D4, but no way. Something is wrong with your settings or maybe it's a matter of taste. Weird

The character models are close though. D4's are more aesthetically pleasing. But that's it.

Gentlemen, we can rebuild it. We have the capability to make the world's first enhanced store. Steam will be that store. Better than it was before.
If you buy on the website, do you get a Steam key? PlayStation key too? Or if I want both do I need to buy them separately?

Can anyone confirm on PS5 if there is a way to get the Vaal supporter pack? I have a good amount of PSN wallet funds that I’d love to burn on that pack.

I don’t want to buy a pass, then have to obtain that pack via paying GGG. Pretty dumb so far by Sony when all these packs are readily available on Xbox.

Played for about an hour. Game is quite good. Everything is very intentional, skills synergize, it is VERY SLOW compared to your typical ARPG, so be prepared for that. Plays more like a top down 3rd person action game (at least at first).
Visuals and animation are unmatched, except maybe in the character screen, where D4 seems to have put most of their effort.
There is some story, good voice acting, I'm hoping the characters take more of a role in what your are doing rather than just talking every once in a while.
I can see how POE1 players may not enjoy this as much, this game doesn't seem particularly conducive to blasting.
Also the bosses are quite lovely, you have to been on your toes and mix up your abilities (eg. take down their armors, or try to stun them), they animate incredibly well and even a basic sub-boss in this game puts some of the D4 act bosses to shame, I'm not exaggerating.
I tried Merc and Monk. The Merc is fun switching up between ammo types, but you're going to be doing quite a bit of kiting at first. The Monk is more tanky and at first the abilities are a bit more flashy, but they both felt balanced.
I think given the amount of hype there was and the enormous number of youtube videos I've watched of this game, my expectations were quite high, and this game managed to match them - always a risk to burn yourself out on pre-release media.
This is well worth the $30 and you'll get a lot of fun out of it, and each class plays so differently it's really conducive to starting multiple characters and just experimenting, with a VERY expansive character building system.

Nice write up. Agreed.

And yep, I'm going to play all classes I think. The good thing about totally random loot is that you'll find something nice for every class eventually.

Thanks for the clarification! Now to decide which I'll go with... or which to get now and which to wait til it's F2P.

I disagree on graphics and animation. D4 has cleaner presentation for sure, but those thick, dense jungles in the Grelwood have so much more detail than D4 zones. Enemy variety also seems greater. Animation wise I would call them equal but different.

D4 absolutely takes the cake on story and world though - from the first drink at the pub in Nevesk I was hooked and invested all the way through end of the campaign. It's somewhat unfair to make that comparison after only playing PoE2 for like 2 hours, but it hasn't hooked me with any story or characters yet.

Gameplay-wise it is far more skillful than D4 or even Lost Ark, starting right out of the gate you need to pay the fuck attention to what you're doing or you'll end up dead. No mindless spin to win here.

I agree that there should always be an option for text scaling in any game.

But:

Your TV is too small or you're sitting too far from it.

I have a 70" TV and I don't sit super far from it. I don't have this issue with Diablo 4, and I can't recall having it with much of anything since very early in the PS3/360 era. The text here legitimately is super small.

I'm playing on PC, but I could definitely see this being an issue if the text is scaled the same way on console.

Has anyone had any luck adding friends in the social menu?
Yup worked fine for my friend and I on PC. Remember you have to use character names, not Steam name, not GGG/PoE account, but actual individual characters.

With my Warrior I am alternating ice Nova and auto attack with two support gems. Extra fire damage and rage. Owning shit. It's so satisfying to shatter frozen enemies.

Yeah I did that, it just keeps saying "character does not exist", I even looked at their screen to see their name in their social menu

*edit* maybe it's a crossplay thing, they're on ps5 and i'm on pc

Couple questions:

How is it compared to D4? I didn't like D4 at all and dropped it.
Is there cross play/cross save between console and PC?

I'm going to say this now: PoE 2 is the best DRPG (Diablo-RPG) I've played in the past 15 years. This is S-Tier gaming. I could only think of one single complaint: no town portal!

If you loved Diablo 2, do yourself a favor and play this. Totally worth the $30 imo.

There is a town portal. I have it bound to left trigger+X. You don't need scrolls anymore. They are unlimited. How long did you play with no TP? Yeesh lol

Blame it on gamers despite this text issue being a problemndevs have been known to do for years now
I said text should always be scalable, no matter what.

But this is not watching a movie.

In my experience, most console gamers sit too far away from their screens.

I have my PS5 hooked up to a 32 inch 165Hz IPS monitor and I sit less than 3 feet away from it. Text is perfect.

Also, and I see this all the time with friends and family: If you age, your eyes get worse--in some cases significantly so. My brother can't read shit, but he refuses to admit that he needs glasses.

I play both on a 4090. D4 is more refined and detailed.

I woke up 2 hours early so i could get some time in before work. I've not done that since the Halo days.
Does the game live up to your hype? Curious to know what makes PoE2 better than D4? I heard this time it's like a souls game in terms of boss fights?

It's only because they can knock you out quickly if you're not paying attention. It's honestly just more like D2 in terms of fights, but D2 if you kicked it into Nightmare mode to start.

Once we excited the town my son was greeted with a screen to hotkey the portal. I missed this and can't add it to my shortcuts, I can't it see on my character either

So far it does! although I'm only in Act 1. The combat has real weight to it and feels sublime on the Monk.

I found vanilla D4 kinda boring, the campaign was ok but the levelling scaling is an awful mechanic. I dropped it during season 1 and I came back for the expansion but it still didn't grab me like i'd hoped. This has its claws into me instantly.

Edit. Boss fight are plentiful and well designed. They look great as well. Very spectacular.

I just started about two hours ago, so I can't judge in depth.

The most striking difference between PoE2 and D4 so far is enemy variety.

In D4, this is more of a cosmetic thing than a gameplay mechanic thing.

In PoE2 you face several different enemy types that all feel very different to fight:

Some are super fast, some surprise you from stealth, some revive their minions, some come at you in packs, some have special attributes.

I killed the first boss (the worm). On my first try I got my ass kicked badly. For second try, I used stuff in my inventory which gave me synergies from gear and abilities. That way I could beat the boss. It felt rewarding.

PoE2 is more difficult. The world feels more ominous and threatening. It has much more depth and systems in the early game, but it never feels overwhelming. Everything gets introduced step by step, and the more systems are added, the better the combat feels.

I'm playing Mercenary. Started very slow and simple. It's super fun now.

I found D4 to be very boring. Story was amazing, but the overall gameplay loop was disapointing.

PoE2 just clicked with me from the start.

Thanks for the dedicated response, my man. I need to try the game myself next week when I'm free!
