Path of Exile 2 Early Access |OT| An Exile like ARPG.

Just reached Act 2, on the caravan now after dealing with the raiders.
  • Playing Monk, kinda powerful but needs careful play (charging orbs for insane damage is nice but getting those charges gets difficult fast as you die while trying to collect those) , if you want easy go with Sorcery or Mercenary, I'm 100% going to replay with Merc next.
  • Loot is kinda underwhelming, super low drops.
  • Melee is quite bad.
  • Runs insanely well, looks fantastic esp. the effects holy stunning, top-tier music, VA & atmosphere, GGG nailed it
  • Bosses are somewhat hard, some have near 1-hit KO, kinda infuriating but the designs and mechanics are cool, I'm loving the game died around 7 times till now, Souls-lite
  • No difficulty is great, I'm loving the slow, methodically combat - I generally dislike flashy blazing mowing down 10000 mobs shit that is found in many ARPGs.
  • Pause! Insane QoL for me, every game should have Pause if you're just playing the single-player part.
  • Crafting currency, salvage, only one flasks are nice but underbaked & underwhelming, I feel these should be boosted more.
  • Movement speed should be increased, huge areas and that you need to complete the campaign twice to reach endgame.
More to come as I play, kinda busy atm with work so will stop after finishing campaign with monk and merc, will play this again after full release.

is there a reason no one ever opens up a fresh TP for me when I join a party? is there a way to teleport to my group or something?

even when I ask for a TP, no one responds

in d2, as soon as a new player joins a party, everyone usually throws up a TP for them

Played a session on ps Portal yesterday, ran like a charm not a single hiccup in two hours of play time, but man the font size is beyond unreadable on the small screen.

Tested out some controller bindings for Merc and found something that works really well for me.

Changed bar switch from L2 to L1.

Different ammo types are L1 + face buttons

Health Potion is square. Mana potion is triangle. So now I can use them while moving.

Right d-pad button is now bound to aiming mode switch. I strongly recommend to check this one out as it makes combat much easier imo. The default aiming mode is chaotic because it switches between different enemies to quickly. The other mode allows for much more focused aiming so you can take down enemies much quicker if there's more than one on screen. It also makes kiting easier with packs.

X face button is nothing so I don't loot in the midst of combat.

Hmm, I thought the auto aim was so OP that I haven't tried free aim. Does it still auto aim but just in the direction you press?

Default mode is called 'Dynamic'. It constantly switches between enemies.

Second mode is called 'Focus Fire'. It's sticky targeting. I prefer this mode because it allows me to gun down single enemies one after another over distance. So when a pack has closed up on me and I switch to spray shots, there's at least two of them down. I find kiting to be easier as well.

Those tps in d4 are automatic. When you join a party and go to a main town, each member of the party has a tp to their current location.

click on a players portrait to port to their instance.

Got up to level 13 or so... so I had planned on trying out controller but both times I loaded up the game I kinda logged in and before I knew it I was locked into kb+m unless i wanted to go back to the main menu I guess? WASD was working pretty well but as I slotted more abilities it got a little awkward. I could see a case for click movement.

Game's growing on me.

2 hours on PC in SP with a DualSense

This is the Diablo 4 of my dreams. Overlay map, UI, the impact, the aesthetics, production values, music, sound, speed, feel... Sheer focus on right things for an ARPG. That what I wanted from Diablo 4.

How is this game on PS5?
There were two sections with problems so far:

Mausoleum boss had noticable frame drops. And in Hunting Grounds map there is tearing. Also Hunting Ground has visual artefacts that look like mipmap aliasing.

Antialiasing in general could be better in some areas.

But other than that it's a very pleasant experience. I am happy.

Will play my next char on PC to check out wich version I prefer.

Can you make the mini map bigger temporarily, like in d2?

How is this game on PS5?
In what sense? I'm running DRS from the options with FSR. You can run PSSR on the Pro but I find FSR a little better - this is based on my eyes and only anecdotal though. No science behind it. The main town lags just because of the number of people in there. Outside, the performance has been solid.

edit: @above, I have only just got to the hunting grounds so may change opinion after that. I had no issues with any of the 3 cemetery bosses (though I am on the Pro not base)

Or if you're on console: open the options menu, then hit left to select someone in your party, and there you can find the menu that allows you to teleport directly to another player.

I got to the manor last night and it was kicking my butt. Pretty sure with the warrior there I will be needing to take advantage of the block / shield charge to prevent damage while closing the gaps to the ranged mobs.

I also think my idea to B line straight for the wield 2H weapons in 1H is not great so did a slight respec to pick up some life regen. Will see how it goes later.

I am also sure a lot of the difficulty so far has been down to the fact that a lot of your skills are situational and learning what works for what situation takes time.

Manor area and boss has put up PAUSED and then booted to login a few times. Was sure I had him that time as well once I'd seen enough of his attacks to know what's coming.

Not sure what to do, maybe grind the area and level up a few times to make the encounter quicker so less likely to get dumped out.

And here i am with 6 unique drops from act 1 already lol. I must be lucky
6?! FFS :D I've had 1 and can't make use of it. Can you give these away or are the rarest things account-bound?

3.6 hours played, just had my second "hard crash" that required me to hold the power button on my PC down.

I like this game a lot, but man it seems a bit glitchy to me.

EDIT: and now a third time. Kinda sucks I'm past the refund window, this is frustrating.

Try vulkan. I have been playing it on steam deck. About 9 hours so far and 0 crashes.

Nothing is account bound except money

The executioner pushed my shit in. Was not a fan of those OHKs at all. Onward to the manor and the boss gregnor I assume.

After two hours of playtime I have refunded. Crashes, constant server disconnection and to be honest I don't think the gameplay is that engaging, maps seem almost procedurally generated, with constant repetition of assets and very little variety. Maybe I come back to it when the early access is over but I just feel like maybe this type of diablo games are not for me

I'd bet it's more dungeon looters are not for you, if you don't like diablo either. They are pretty much opposite ends of the spectrum in terms of the genre. But that's fine. Rather that, than waste some money trying to like it. See how it goes when more people hit endgame

So my buddy and I played multiplayer last night. Overall we had a good time and it seemed to run fine. Was challenging but not near as much as solo. Here is the issues we had and hopefully GGG fixes them because they are annoying.

1) disconnect and booted back to log in screen when your controller dies. Has to be a bug cause I can’t see why any Developer would choose to do this. On ps5

2) trying to revive you party members while in a boss fight is next to impossible. Not a big deal I guess just need to make sure you stay alive cause it’s a challenge to do that’s for sure. Lol

3) having the map reset after going into a dungeon. This one is so annoying. Spend time filling out whole map then return to the dungeon we have quests in only to leave dungeon and see we have to fill out the whole damn map again. I can see if you log off for the night and play the next day but not this.

Other than those gripes this game is awesome!!!

When you select a character to play with it must be with the input you want for now.

So are we supposed to save stuff like orbs for later or use em on equipment when we get them? The ones that upgrade magic items to a rare etc

Damn, game is getting eviscerated online right now. People are not happy lol. I just bought it last night, played for about 30 minutes before heading off to bed. Then I check some forums and subreddits and oof. I've read a lot of it, and it doesn't seem like typical whinging. A lot of people are echoing the same criticisms about loot drop rate, map layouts, hating the dodge mechanic, the slower gameplay etc. Wonder if GGG will turn this around because people talked up PoE2 like the second coming of christ for the ARPG genre.

Turn this around lol what are you smoking? The game is fire and the overwhelming majority love it.

Look at this "evisceration":

It's the best game in the genre. The haters can still play the new league of PoE 1 if they want to mindlessly zoom.

Eh we'll see. Heard the same shit with D4 when it first dropped. Sounds like the game needs serious tuning in some areas. Doesn't mean the game is rotten to it's core, and there's no sense in being close minded towards criticisms. It's Early Access. Taking player feedback is the point.

I feel it's mainly the PoE community trying to turn PoE 2 into PoE.

Thankfully that was met with a lot of resistance and praise of the direction GGG took:

Don't listen to Reddit. It happens every single time when a sequel to anything releases.

The difficulty in this game is great. You really have to learn the bosses and the timing.
Also, rolling doesn't break pots, wtf it's 2024
For anyone experiencing crashes on PC, upgrade your graphics drivers and verify steam files, seems to have fixed everything for me.
Playing warrior, definitely need to work quite hard compared to the ranged classes, but I like the more hands on gameplay.

Most importantly, shoot button R2 instead of R1. That wasn't ergonomic at all for me

Only place I've noticed this is Reddit, they want the game to be exactly the same as PoE1. They think the game is too hard

They soon are gonna understand what it feels to be from software. I hope they stand their ground and don’t give in to these goobers. I swear if they cave I’m done with gaming lol

The vast majority, streamers and reviews are all positive. It's pretty much the old poe1 players just disappointed the campaign is not as easy and they can't copy and paste a build they've found online. I think we're safe lol
