Path of Exile 2 Early Access |OT| An Exile like ARPG.

Bros, the warrior has a skill that's basically arc of deliverance from Dragon's Dogma. Holy fuck this game. :messenger_heart:

Yeah played that one back in the day, as well as the Resurrected remake. Fun as fuck but I find the gameplay in POE2 to be much better. Like an evolution of the genre even.
I'm only on Act 2, but so far the game feels like a pretty obvious homage to Diablo 2

Act 1 mirrors a lot of Act 1 in Diablo 2. The setting, the quests, you even rescue the guy who gives you the ability to ID the exact same time you rescue Deckard Cain in D2, who also becomes the character who hangs out in town to ID stuff and play the same role in the MSQ, which is ushering the story forward. You even cut both guys down from a rope they're hanging from. You then get sent on a quest to find the blacksmiths lost tools, just like in Diablo 2. The environment is identical. You start off in outdoors that look identical to Act 1 in D2, then you eventually enter some buildings that look identical the Cloister/Barracks from D2.

You wrap up with a caravan heading to the desert, just like in Diablo 2, and Act 2 opens up just like Act 2 in Diablo 2

As soon as you walk out into Act 2, you run into these spider monsters with the exact same move set as Leapers from Diablo 2, the first monster you run into when you leave Act 2 town

I mean there are a billion parallels elsewhere, but yeah, this is very obviously meant to be a Diablo 2 successor.

How about the Shields, is it practical to use? I mean you have to raise the shield actually to defend. Does it improve the survivability?

Bought this yesterday for PS5 (Pro), just tried to play a bit but the game suffers from terrible lag/input lag. Going back to main menu and reconnecting solved it, but then I entered another instance and the lag was back.

Feeling some buyer's remorse here and CTRL+F didn't show any other "input lag" issues on this page in the thread. Is this a "Europe" issue? Or any other players here on PS5 who have similar lag issues?
PS5 Pro, UK. No issues here except in Clearfell encampment.

Not sure about instances, I'm playing offline only

Shields work both ways. They have block chance, which makes them auto-block like in any other arpg, but you can also manually block, giving you a 100% block on the direction you are looking at.

I'd say they are very useful, specially against bosses or big enemies.

Ah, good to know. Too bad i sold a good shield to the vendor some time ago. Do i get the Auto-Block also when i have the shield equipped to the second weapon slot?

I had no idea that mouse combat was also great. I accidentally used my mouse to start the game. I thought that when you began casting, you'd be rooted in place, but it plays similar to WASD. With sorceress, so far, I don't think WASD is required since you can still move while casting. For Merc, I could see it being a big difference though. Anyway, I hope they combine both controller and mouse soon so that I can play with controller and skill up and inventory manage with my mouse. They did do a great job with the controller UI so no rush.

Yep, they love D2 and I'm sure they don't mind at all being called a Diablo-like as long as it's D1 and D2 you're talking about. Even the skill system is like D1 in that you can mix and match skills but even better in this obviously. In Diablo 1 it was skill books instead of skill gems.

I've heard that drops are a bit disappointing. I haven't played long enough to confirm but if it is they should really up the drop quality.

Nah, it's already getting too easy, anymore good loot and the game would be trivial. I want it to remain difficult. Also, if you spend time using the consumables, loot can be pretty great already. They made them more numerous for a reason.

this was what i was worried about the most because when i was watching the early presentations there was a focus on being able to move while casting so i didn't know how good it would feel between the different control schemes. wsad just doesn't jive with me in arpg games. idk, i just don't like it. i always use mouse combat in these games and turned out to be great. naturally, there's a lot of back and forth going between constantly moving and casting lol but i like it.

Fucking hell I need a key for PC as well for crossprogression with ps5. When my son plays Fortnite I can't play the game. Should of thought about that.

brings back memories of dudes duping the skill books in D1, and the town just being filled with them hah

difficulty wise, it is closer to D1 too. I love D2, but I wouldn't call it a difficult game. I've had several hardcore characters hit +90.

D1 was a fucking nightmare to beat without dupes

Decided to go back to Witch after playing Sorceress for a bit. Lots more fun the second time since I ignored bone skills and just focused on minion/dots. Regardless it's quite strong being able to fire and forget while focusing on avoiding all the damage coming my way. Currently in act 2 and have only died once to a boss that 100 to 0 stunlocked me. the wolf tranforming boss

I remember beating Diablo 1 without big problems. I don't know if D1 had higher difficulty after you beat it the first time but i killed Diablo through the first run.

Yeah, only Duriel sans thawing pots was hard, otherwise D2 was a cake walk. A lot of OP drops. I think that's what the complainers want out of PoE2 and I hope they don't get what they want tbh. The engaging combat is what makes it even better.

I grabbed a unique Dex armor from the guild stash. Much appreciated to whoever left it! I added some stuff of my own and I'll continue adding stuff that looks like someone else could make use of it.

I got the unique gloves...Perfect for my poison based ranger...Left there my rare gloves.

If you end up with spare stuff that's good for poison rangers, can you leave it in the guild stash? That's what I'm currently running and I'm only level 12, so I might be able to use stuff you've outgrown.

Runs like shit on PS5 but to be expected as its early access and a beta in essence. Loving the checkpoints and the boss fights. Some work to be done optimizing the ranger for controller as the direction of fire goes wonky sometimes.

Usually play on PC but I think I’m going to try console for this release.

D1 was sorta like a rogue like in that sense. for some classes, you were really at the whim of what dropped.

you could get very unlucky on your run and get garbage. unlike Diablo 2, the enemies didn't respawn in Diablo 1

you could literally get to a point where you have no way of beating certain immunities, or repairing certain gear (that is unless you hop online and have a friend do it for you)

I never clicked my mouse so much like in Diablo 1 though :messenger_grinning:
I've beat it with an Amazon btw.

Only bone spell I use anymore currently is Bone Storm. It's got a lot of oomph. Low charge is good for ST and travels farther. Full Charge is great for groups up close. I need to get Summon Raging Spirits and use it with Fire Wall. Looks like a meta pick.

Still looking for a skill that is a channeled beam that melts faces. Closest I've seen so far is Incinerate. It's great on enemies but is not good for bosses at all.

I paid for the $30 Early Access Supporter Back, but I'm thinking of upgrading to one of the higher tier packs. Not because I give a shit about cosmetics, but I legitimately want to support this game and send the message that this is GOOD as it is.

REALLY hoping they don't mess with things like the loot table or difficulty

I don't want to look arrogant but its pure and smooth on ps5 pro

For real. I bought some more stash tabs even though I don't need them and an extra character slot just in case. I may have bought some in the past. I don't know how to check how many I have without spamming the create a character. So far I have 7. One of each in SC and 1 in HC. I'll prob get some cosmetics later. So far, the ones I see are pretty cheesy. Blizzard definitely has better artists when it comes to cosmetics imo.

I got a legendary rod that casts lightning and it boosts my lightning damage. It’s replaced most of my other skills and it’s just the regular attack. I love how much change a character build can have just by finding 1 item. I was getting tired of using chaos magic and now I’m back on the horse with lightning.

Netherlands here. On my PC I connect to Amsterdam with 5ms. Feels great to play with zero issues. On my Pro it is all over the place with it sometimes freely very laggy. Disabling cross play and manually selecting your gateway under options helps a bit but it still feels a bit off vs PC. Also check your performance, make sure to not render at native as the Pro can’t do a stable 60fps at 4K, drop down to PSSR quality or balanced.

Only time I see fps drops is when I chug some gas grenades and make everything go boom with a grenade on peasant ps5

Been playing around with the orbs for crafting better gear, and now I have a weapon far superior than my previous one.

So yeah, it might be hard to come by good loot but crafting your own can lead to great results.

Yeah this is what happens in POE1. A skill gem or item can change a character completely.
