Path of Exile 2 - THE Game to Save Gaming

Playing some D4 PTR for season 7. Some nice QoL things I've noticed. You can turn whispers of the dead bounties in during the witch-hunts so you don't have to portal to the tree and idk if this was a thing last season but my pet picks up those orbs that enemies drop that go toward whisper quests. Killing some time until PoE 2. 2 more days!

is this going to be ass on consoles with a controller? in Diablo 2 Resurrected and I'm guessing other similar games, aiming ranged weapons/magic with a controller is just not fun

Controller play feels pretty good. Certain builds are better suited for controller than others, but they're all pretty decent at a minimum.

Great to hear!

Controller will be the preferred way to play. It will be even better than D4 on controller given the ability to move while attacking. WASD is so cumbersome, especially for several hours. Even games like Vampire Survivor are better on controller.

So when you pick an ascendancy, do you have to choose one subtree or are you able to max out the entire tree?

WASD will be superior, but controller might be more comfortable + feel better for melee classes.

Yep, and more comfortable is superior in my eyes especially in a grindy game like this. Hundreds of hours pressing two buttons at once to run diagonally versus an analog stick is night and day for me. Plus I'm playing melee so IMO, it will also be superior control wise. It's like Elden Ring on controller vs. mouse and keyboard. Night and day.

Btw, I did put a Razer Tartarus on my Christmas list, so I may get one. That looks like it will solve the WASD issue while allowing more fine mouse control for when I try a ranged character.

Wait this isn't a one click to move over here, other click to stab guy over there kind of game? I guess I ended up playing Hades on controller (thought it was kind of bad for the last unlocked weapon). I get the feeling Hades was mostly played on controller on PC, but it doesn't really sound like that's the case for PoE1 at least?

It has all 3 types. Point and click, WASD and controller.

Ill be playing controller for the most part.
Bought the $30 pack and uninstalled Diablo4. Hope this one doesn't disappoint
Your good i think. I have a feeling this will be one of the greatest games ever created.

I'm intimidated, but it looks pretty good, and I need something to play and sink my teeth into... I hope I can wield a greatsword and go all Conan on dudes.

Didn't really play PoE1, but for some reason I'm excited for 2. So I bought a package and can't wait to play in this weekend.

Gonna try out Merc, Monk and Sorc.

Yeah being top seller on steam while sale going on is scary. RIP dec 6th
Yeah it was number one for a while after the end game reveal as well. They said in an interview that the severs can take around 1.6 million ccu across all platforms before they buckle.

Think its going to be bigger than that personally. Hopefully not though, I have cleared my weekend.

Shit will hit the fan, those emulated stress tests are completely different from live scenarios. Anyone whos expecting a smooth launch are copiuming hard. If someone cant deal with server issues, better wait until next week

Always the boozer if things go tits up.

They've run a fairly sizable game for years so there is a tiny glimmer of hope that ill be playing at some point Friday.

On Xbox? Is it available now? If so, what was the install size?

From a bit earlier in the thread:

96.57 GB on XSS. I wanted to have it on a super portable platform for on the go gaming. I hope it plays at 60fps on the S. Main platform will be PC with a 4070ti so hopefully the gulf in graphics isn't huge lol. I hope it has a 1080p mode since that will be my main screen on the go anyway.

With Path of Exile 2 launching into Early Access soon, we've had a lot of players asking for pre-download to ensure they can play on launch. To accommodate this, we'll be making the standalone PC client available for download at 5pm on Thursday, December 5th (PST), or Dec 06, 2024 3:00 AM (GMT+2) in your local time. Please note that when patching begins for Path of Exile 2 Early Access you may also have a few remaining files that you'll need to update as well.

After downloading the Path of Exile 2 client, you won't be able to login until Early Access launches at 11am on Friday, December 6th (PST), or Dec 06, 2024 9:00 PM (GMT+2) in your local time. If you're not sure, check the timer on our website.

The client download will be available through the Path of Exile 2 website, but we'll also be providing a torrent with the client download at the same time.

We're still looking into making pre-download available for other platforms and will update this post when they become available.

Updates for other platforms:
  • Xbox - pre-download is already available. There will likely be updates on launch.
  • PlayStation - Founder's packs should go live 24 hours before Early Access starts. Purchasing one of these packs should allow for pre-download on PS5.

Was looking for some pre-load info:

Even if you are playing only on Steam, you can connect your Steam to PoE Standalone account at ;

https://www.pathofexile.com/my-account/connections

After connecting, you can play on Steam or PoE Standalone client interchangeably whenever you want.

HOWEVER,

Steam security is much stronger with 2FA, so if you are worried about getting hacked (especially if you plan to purchase many MTX) I'd wait the extra 24h.

This will be the OT for the game or someone gonna do a new one?
Was thinking the same.

I could knock one up but I've not played POE for a good few years so fear I wouldn't do it justice. I'll ask in the OT thread see if anyone's claimed it.

If not this one will have to do.

Early feedback suggests the opposite. The game is designed for controller first.

I'm not sure about controller first, but the game still does feel good with traditional KB/mouse controls too. It really depends on the kind of build you're making. I can see a situation where people switch between controller/traditional/WASD depending on their build.

I think the most interesting/different/possibly jarring thing for traditional control scheme enjoyers is that the game is now designed a lot more to encourage moving + attacking at the same time.

Most ARPGs have a point to move, hold shift, fire ability kind of playstyle, but the first thing you'll notice when playing PoE2 is that firing off a spell, for example, doesn't halt your movement, so you can effectively strafe shoot using mouse and keyboard. This might take some getting used to for some people. You click a spot to move, and your player moves to that spot, but anytime during that movement, you can also click on monsters and your player will fire at them while moving.

If this doesn't work for you, you can always change it to working in the more traditional way in the options.

I noticed that too. It seems you are pretty excited about the game. If you have the free time, I'd say do it. It doesn't have to be super comprehensive or anything. All you really need to do is copy/paste a few accurate summaries, game description info, early access info, and relevant links/pics/youtube summaries.

I haven't even bothered playing the PTR lol :messenger_grinning_squinting:

It's a little telling.

Will this be free 2 play on EA? Or only after EA is over?

If you want to play on Friday, it'll cost at least $30, unless you are a big spender on PoE1.

If you want to play for free, you'll have to wait 6 months.
Thanks for the info man.

Game looks amazing but I think I can wait. Have fun everyone!

Was going to play warrior, then saw the shield. I think it's a terrible decision. 2H or GTFO. I'm not some low dps tank bitch.

If people are still playing the bore fest that is D4 you know the thirst must be REAL. I have tried to get back into that game repeatedly but it's just so incredibly boring and the skill/gear system is incredibly bland.
It's quite sad because when I started with the D4 beta I thought "this is so promising, surely it's going to open up and the build variety is going to be wild". And then you realize you're going to be playing the same basic character through to level 60.
Even the campaign became a chore towards the end. Biggest disappointment of 2023 for me.

POE2 looks like your old highschool crush coming to town, looking better than ever, and she for some reason wants to bang your brains out.
