I think it pretty much boils down to where and how you grew up and what your stance on all kinds of ethics are. While a large part of his audience might be from the US and generally see his ignorance and lack of knowledge as endearing and/or funny, I was born in Germany where a wasteful and ignorant lifestyle like his and showing no consciousness about it are not considered good traits in a human being.
How anyone in this day and age can openly admit to wasting crazy amounts of plastics each day just because they're too lazy to wash dishes is completely beyond me. Also he apparently has never in his life heard of factory farming or animal cruelty. Most of his audience might not be concerned about issues like these, I do get that, but I am and its not so much that he says things like that, it's that he doesn't even consider that there might be another side to the coin.
He's the picture book American stereotype that I find so very offensive and in the case of the people I know personally not correct at all, but in his case it's absolutely true and on point.
Is he a funny and entertaining guy? Hell yes he is! But there's only so much ignorance I can take before listening to someone on a weekly basis becomes less of a joy and more of a pain.
But that's just me, I'm not judging anyone who loves that guy and believe me, not listening to the crew anymore was hard and I miss them quite a bit since they produce some quality content that you won't find anywhere else.
Btw, Patrick on the other hand I feel was the complete polar opposite of Dan which I enjoyed, and to see him go is an unfortunate turn of events for the whole site I think. Hopefully it's the right decision for Patrick and I wish him all the best for the new year and his new endeavors. I enjoyed him very much on the bombcast in his early years.
And then there's also Brad who I like very much and who I felt in the last few episodes I listened to (months ago, not recently) was very aware and conscious of the stupid things Dan says without a single care in the world, and I could almost hear him cringe as hardly as me.
That personality trait can be grating at times. Like when he tweeted
I don't really get why so many people bitch about TSA. They're an unenthusiastic bunch, but that's the worst I've seen.
As the whitest American on the planet, it just seemed like he didn't even consider how it might be worse for someone like say, Rami Ismail who is regularly given "random" checks. That left a really sour taste in my mouth
