I just want Persona 5 on PS3 or 360 sometime this gen. Just...not to the PSP. Please.
I will say, as much as I love Shin Megami Tensei Nocturne, I only fully understood how the battle system worked, and how much buffing and de-buffing actually matters in a game where it can turn the tide, from Digital Devil Saga. If they decided to bring out a spin-off to properly portray on a more accessible scale how the system works to next-gen audience, that would make sense.TheExodu5 said:I think they'd be far smarter releasing Persona 5 before SMT4. Persona 5 will bring the popularity of the series to the current-gen consoles, and probably give a big sales boost to SMT4.

Then again, mainline SMT is extremely hardcore-niche especially concerning the subject matter it covers so I guess, bottom line, even having Persona on the first wave won't really convert people. (no pun intended there).

A Digital Devil Saga remake that united 1 and 2 and fixed the plot of 2? Sure, I'd be down.Serph said:I think I might be willing to kill for a Digital Devil Saga HD, but look at my username![]()

And Atlus, please release it on X360 and/or Ps3.

Icehouse said:And yes, DDS rocks. But I don't think they'd make another one. I mean, the story is done with DDS2. And yeah, DDS1 > DDS2.
Really? I thought Persona 4 bombed in Europe, compared to Persona 3...Hypnotoad said:Persona is a hot property right now, so it makes sense make it the first new game of the series on the CURRENT-GEN consoles. The reception was great, the brand recognition is growing - Persona 4 is in every store, much more so than the mainline, at least from what I've seen in Germany. The anime-like presentation is already a plus, so to have that with better graphics will appeal to the casual gamer.
Serph said:I don't think it's so much that people are complaining because they don't like persona, I think it's more like this:
In 3 years we have received Persona 3, Persona 3 FES, Persona 4, Persona 2 reprint, and Persona 1 on PSP. Isn't that enough Persona for now? Could we maybe get a little SMT4 love first? Persona is a great series, but to long time SMT fans.... it's like ENOUGH IS ENOUGH with persona!
Icehouse said:Who cares, really. Anything Atlus R&D1 puts out will be high quality, although there's exceptions (Raidou 1).
Icehouse said:I mean, really. After Persona 3, Fes, and 4, who the fuck really wants more Persona so soon? *Especially* if they go with the s-link formula again?
JRPGs dont sell well in general.Icehouse said:do people really think it would be a mega bomb?
JRPGs dont sell well in general.
Nah. I am just saying it probably doesn't matter which way they go because the difference in sales might not be that great. Persona 4 sold only one or two hundred thousand?Icehouse said:But you're going to give Persona 4 a pass because it is "accessible" and "mainstream" (although it isn't)?
Well I've gone on a search for both P3 FES and P4 - found P4 easily but I'm having trouble finding FES (in-store). I can always order online or something but... I kinda wanted to start one of them today, and someone else suggested to play 3 before 4. lolMoogPaul said:Start with P3, which has better story and characters. The gameplay in 4 is much better, so if you play 4 before 3, you'll never make it through 3. Just my opinion, but don't pass on the story and characters of 3.
WHAT?Persona3/4 are are dark. Their storylines are deep and mature. I'm sorry but DDS's storyline was extremely trite and overdone.
Tenks said:The good thing about Persona is that not only is is storyline heavy but even during the stretches where the story doesn't advance you have the S-Link storylines evolving and progressing. Not to mention "school time" breaks up the redundancy of dungeon crawling combat. In Lucifer/DDS it was like "Ok I just crawled for 2 hours ... here comes my 10 minute long cutscene!" ... "Great, now I have another 2 hour dungeon." That is the accessability I am referring to. Persona also brings in such stark contrasts of light and dark. You are a normal kid going to school while at the whole time dealing with personal internal struggle, trying to save the world and trying to get the girl. It is hard to have a "normal kid" while living in post-apocalyptic Japan or traversing the Junkyard.
Icehouse said:Shit, the emphasis on story is why I think DDS1 is better than DDS2. Why the fuck can't I have a static party in DDS2 when I have a specific plan for how I customize my party? Oh right!Everyone dies!!!
Icehouse said:Oh God, DDS1 is miles ahead of DDS2 in every way except battle themes.
Varna said:DDS2 seems fairly rushed...
I love the first game much more because of the settings, story setup (what we got in DDS2 was ultimately disappointing for me at least), aesthetics, music and dungeon designs.

charlequin said:From a development standpoint, because the core SMT game, with its huge roster of demons who serve directly as party members and NPCs, is an excellent opportunity to lay the groundwork and build the assets necessary for the many titles to follow (including more Persona, new spinoff franchises akin to DDS, possibly Devil Summoner 3, etc.)
From a consumer standpoint, because all the people who bought P3 solely for the animu dating-sim elements and don't care to chase down the rest of the series and discover how good the Megaten series is as a whole are friggin' annoying.
P4 just came out in 2008. P5 could come out as late as 2011 and still be received very positively off the back of its predecessor -- and without risking franchise fatigue where people go "Fuck, I just bought Persona 4 and that game was like 200,000 hours long, do I really need another one yet?"
Superficial gamers whining for an immediate P5 are akin to the people who bitch about SE announcing a new RPG that isn't yet another Final Fantasy, or who think EA developing new IPs like Mirror's Edge is dangerously close to detracting from their real purpose of spending money on Madden. The newfound success of the Persona franchise should be an opportunity for Atlus to branch out and put out more risky and different titles (with the knowledge that they can always come back to P5 a little ways down the road), not for them to singlemindedly whore out the one franchise until everyone's sick of it.
