Same thing happened to me.
I believe for the other characters (hifumi/shogo girl too!) you need to actually be in a romantic relationship with them to trigger it (I assume rank 10 for the rest of them). I think Makoto is kind of the "default choice" in that situation for whatever reason so you don't only have to hang with Ryuji. There's a similar situation later where if you don't have a romance there's a "default girl" and Ryuji to choose from, but I had romanced Kawakami by that point.

I see! Thanks for answering!

Lucky for me, I was on the fence about pursuing Makoto, now I'm all in cause of that scene. Best girl.

soul hackers was like one of two 3DS games that i beat and i gotta say it's definitely up there in terms of favorite SMT games.

Yeah I really had a great time with Soul Hackers, It's sort of a miracle we got to play it in English through an official release after all these years and I gotta say, bringing it over was totally worth it. And it felt pretty dang modern to me. Probably a game Persona fans should seek out if they think they can stomach old school dungeon crawling, game's got some good vibes. I mean come on, it's good old cyberpunk.

Ok what fucking level am I supposed to be for the second boss. I keep fucking dying. It's been like an hour. I'm level 16 and I feel underleveled even though I haven't been avoiding any fights. This asshole keeps one shotting some characters and I eventually run out of revival items. When I finally get him down to his vulnerable phase I can only take away about 1/4 of his health before he transforms again and then I get wrecked.

Have you gotten armor from mementos or bought what's available at Iwai's?

I think you're a few levels under the average - might be worth upgrading equipment and doing some fusing.

I don't know who I want to romance. I'm slowly building up my social links but don't want to try and max one out because I don't want to be locked in a romance with someone.

Edit: I usually romance the empress social link first on my play threw but haven't met her yet.

Yeah I probably need to buy better equipment. Mementos hasn't given me shit.

Do you gain less experience in hard mode or something? I don't know how I'm so underleveled when I don't skip any enemies.

Man, these twitter may-mays are killing me:

Why don't you settle for High Priestess this time :p

Ah okay, so only Merciless has less XP? And Easy has more?

I think so, at least for Merciless. Not sure on Easy. For Normal and Hard the only differences are damage received and damage dealt.

Easy: Damage received: x0.5 - Damage dealt: x1.0 - Experience: x1.0 - Money: x1.0

Normal: Damage received: x1.0 - Damage dealt: x1.0 - Experience: x1.0 - Money: x1.0

Hard: Damage received: x1.6 - Damage dealt: x0.8 - Experience: x1.0 - Money: x1.0

Merciless: Damage received: x1.6 - Damage dealt: x0.8 - Experience: x0.4 - Money: x0.4 (Critical and technical hit damage on both enemies and allies is tripled)

Found this post on Reddit, but there were also places saying you get less on Hard. This seems more exact since they show the multipliers.

Safety - Damage received: x0.5 - Damage dealt: x2.0 - Experience: x3.0 - Money: x5.0
Easy - Damage received: x0.5 - Damage dealt: x1.0 - Experience: x1.0 - Money: x1.0
Hard - Damage received: x1.6 - Damage dealt: x0.8 - Experience: x1.0 - Money: x1.0
Challenge DLC - Damage received: x1.6 - Damage dealt: x0.8 - Experience: x0.4 - Money: x0.4 - Critical and technical hit damage on both enemies and allies is tripled

Edit: That edit.

No, XP gain is the same in Normal/Hard.

The game doesn't say anything about it, but just about every source online says the harder the difficulty, the less exp and money you get per fight, which makes sense to me since I'm always two levels below everyone else when facing bosses on hard.

Still I wouldn't say grinding is necessary unless you've been skipping fights. I haven't grinded at all so far, but some changes in strategy and decent equipment always do the trick.

I'm playing on Hard and other than the first dungeon haven't had any issues keeping up with the average level. I'm not doing a bunch of grinding either.

Looks like I'm returning to the previous morning and grinding. How annoying.

For the record, here's the strategy I used for the second boss.

Fuse Shiisha to get rampage. If Ryuji knows it as well, that's helpful. Yusuke also gets an attack that hits all enemies at lvl 17 I think? Have Morgana for healing with media.

That feeling when you're money farming Kin-ki at Mementos and have raised 100k+ so far but he decides to recover from his confusion by landing a critical at your MC and 1HKOing him...

Nooooooooo!!! I just now realized that I ran past an elevator when I first died to that heavenly angel guy....I could have saved before I fought him in tower.

My soul is filled with much shame and regret.

The worst :(

I had something similar happen to me but I barely made it in one piece.

Yikes...

Lol I'm 70 hours into the game and I still don't understand the Ryuji hate. I find him very likable and about half of my laughs from the game came from him. I don't understand why he's setting so many people off. The only thing I can think off is
him failing to apologize to Mona, but that gets resolved like 5 minutes later so it's not a big deal.

Just beat the second dungeon.

I'm playing on normal so I don't expect the game to be TOO difficult, having said that I thought Madarame was really easy until he changed back to his first form and started using really annoying attacks. Luckily took him out after he transformed into a human for the second time :p

This game does a really good job of making you hate the villains. 18 hours in and enjoying it a lot!

OMG that fucking head on Futaba. Fucking LOL

While I had a good summer break and got a ton done, fuck
Makoto
and the need for max charm. Seriously...
I turned Ann down for you and you might drive me into the arms of Kawakami.

Edit: Same date as above:
Yusuke is seriously the best. Super Sentai pose!

30 hours in, and I think this game might end up as one of my favorite of all time if it keeps up this quality. There's just so much to enjoy and take in.
I enjoyed Catherine when I played it, but this game has taken my moderate level of expectations, and blown them through the roof.

I'm honestly astonished. There's no way I can talk about this game without being hyperbolic.

I don't know how, but I beat palace 2 boss on hard, lvl 17, after failing to finish him off on the third round of vulnerability. Going into overtime with only three party members, Mona dies during the invulnerable form, just MC and one other party member, no healing items...

Wish I was able to capture it. More exciting than most superbowls I've seen.

Welp.

I had to romance the doctor.

Damn punk girls, my one Kryptonite.

Gimme that stupid boner pill already.

Hell yeah man. She's the best.

So I finished the first section of the game and... I really like it so far. I probably spent too much time dicking around with that first area but I feel like I understand a bit better what the game expects of me now , so I'll hunker down and try my best.

You are talking about the second dungeon, right?

Spoilers for that:
I think I was 17-18 when I beat him? I only lost to him once and it was because I fucked up, but I beat him on my second try. Use the buffs and debuffs (-kaja and -kunda). If someone gets hit with the paint, use Rakukaja on them. He doesn't have a weakness, at least not one I am aware of. However the eyes block magic attacks, the nose doesn't block anything, the mouth blocks physical attacks. After the first time you take down all the pieces, you can just do it normally, but I would start with the nose. All the other times, you want to knock all the pieces down to low enough where one hit will take them out, and then go through and take them all out in one set of turns before he gets a chance to revive it.

If you're struggling with bosses, SMT/Persona common strategies are probably what you want to look at. 9 times out of 10, you are not underleveled and it can be beaten with a change of tactics.

After an hour of fighting him I pretty much have a good strategy but I just couldn't keep up with all the damage it was doing. My equipment was shit. MC has pretty good Personas for the job but my team was just getting their asses kicked. Once I get rampage and vicious strike for Ryuji and Yusuke in about a level, this dude is so dead.

is it possible to hit rank 10 with more than one female confident?, or are you only locked to one?

Also what is the benefit of romancing female characters?, in the guides is see a romance and friendship option for most if not all females in the later ranks, but the rank 10 stat/ buff seem the same either way

I didn't even need Rampage and Vicious Strike to get through it.

Having Media helps, I believe Morgana should have it by now, and if not there are definitely some Personas you can get at this point that have it.
