Persona 5 Review Thread

The game looks gorgeous, runs at a mostly stable 30fps, and it's 1080p. It's a turn based game too. There is no need for Atlus to move away from this engine.

Well unless they improved the visuals since I saw it last year, I'll have to disagree on that. Stylistically it looks great, but I think the visual fidelity is worse than Catherine. I'd also disagree on "no reason"... in-house engines just can't compete with UE4 at this point for this-gen games, and there's little reason to even try unless they're doing something crazy technically or using a very unique visual style. It just ends up wasting time and money to try, as we've seen from other Japanese devs who've tried.

The SMT Switch title is confirmed for UE4.

True, forgot about that. That's promising going forwards.

Persona already stole that crown 9 years ago.

A bunch of other games have gotten better scores than recent Final Fantasy games.
Including other Persona games.
I know, but I'm just saying that Persona 3/4/5 makes a consistent sequence of quality JRPGs. We had almost a decade since the last game so, as a franchise, Persona 5 confirmed its quality.

I like FF too so I'm definitely waiting for 7 remake.

Don't feel bad; before playing P3 I read the ending on YouTube comments sections. Super pissed.

Do all dungeons look the same? By that I mean endless corridors with no variety?

In P5? Nah, unlike 3 and 4 they aren't randomly generated. All hand crafted and whatever. I've seen some gameplay and they look like a bunch of fun, platforming segments and stuff too.

Lol I say this about every game I play.

It's never pans out though...

P4 was a letdown for me. I know P4 is GAF's pet game but P3 is just the better overall game for me (except for the battle system, which is debatable).

If P5 truly deviates P4 in a good way, then that's a net positive for me.

Mmmh main character related dungeons are handcrafted. There is a randomly generated dungeon but honestly far less painless to get through based on the tools they give you and also with how they try to nudge players to pace through it throughout the game. So really there is far more variety no question compared to prior titles.

In p3 all the dungeons looks the same, in p4 theres a theme for each chapter, but the floors looks the same, in p5 idk but they say its better

Thanks for the replies.
Never finished P3 due to the dungeons, liked everything else about it though.

Nice to see they addressed those issues with P5.

I remember X-Play spoiled the ending of Persona 3 in a review for FES.
That is super de duper maximum shitty, just because they should know better and be held to a higher standard than youtube commenter trolls.

That being said, I didn't think that P3 had a particularly narrative-spoiling twist, not like Persona 4 at least. You miss out on a nice moment of the ending, but I don't think the plot hinges on it.

I'm ready to block 50% of my twitter follows on official release date for this game, though.

Happened to me. Dont google even basic words with Persona 5. Not too bummed as it aligned with some observations I had.

Papercuts

fired zero bullets in the orphanage.
Starting to get really excited for this. Never played a Persona but I've seen the ER for 4 and I know this type of game is right up my alley.

Ugh. I cancelled my persona 5 order due to impulse buying a switch today. I'm having a crisis and wanting to preorder it again.

How limiting is the day system in this game? I remember hearing about how you basically needed to follow a guide in P4 to maximize your time in the game because of all the choices.

Like I'm fine not being bestest buddies with everyone or seeing everyone's full story, but getting locked out of gameplay related upgrades or items or trophies would seriously put a damper on my enjoyment.

congratulations to the fans of the series on this achievement

i haven't played any Persona game and don't plan to because i don't like turn based games

i feel like in this year reviewers have gone soft on games

can someone tell me what is the difference between Persona games and the other turn based games ?? what makes it special ?? for the record, the only turn based game that i liked was Child of light, would i like Persona 5 ?

How i Will do:

-Play the First time without a Guide not caring for Platinum and missables, but still doing everything i find to do.

-New game plus on the hardest difficulty, Reading on a Guide what i missed and How to get Platinum

About difficulty, hard is kinda average on p4 for me, How is p5?

It is definitely challenging, but it never felt "impossible".
