LATIN, MATRIPEDICABUS, DO YOU SPEAK IT
I think it's difficult to deny at this point that it's miles wackier than Persona 3 and 4, but I guess I'll just have to deal with it.

This really isn't that much of a surprise is it? Given how we've seen things progress from P3 -> P3FES -> P4 -> P4G

I had been saying it looked sillier since the reveal last year, but a lot of people were like "NUH UH, IT LOOKS DARK AND SERIOUS"

Turns out, well, nope.

The first few trailers definitely gave the sense that P5 had a more serious tone than its predecessors (especially PV3)

But then PV4 happened.

To be fair, the initial teaser for P5 (the one with the chairs) didn't seem to give that impression.
To be fair, when has that ever been the case for Atlus? :p

Really early trailers are never truly indicative of how a game will ultimately turn out though in terms of tone, so I've never put a lot of stock in them.

Well, that's their issue! Never take anything at face value until you get closer to an actual release date.

I have no idea why characters sometimes high five, or what it means, but I love it.

From the director interview video? If you land a hit to the enemy's weakness you can get to choose who gets the next turn, maybe with a small boost of some sort, that was how I saw it.

While this trailer had a lighter tone than previous trailers that doesn't necessarily invalidate the tone conveyed by the previous trailers. Previous Persona games have juggled the more serious narrative with the really light hearted moments and I don't see why Persona 5 couldn't do the same.

Pretty much. People talk like the first Persona didn't have the group fighting a giant murderous teddy bear.

I'm sure it will have, or at least attempt, more serious moments.

But if you're still going to say that it isn't a wacky game, at a certain point you're just being delusional.

Website seems to list a few of what I assume will be dungeon bosses/targets of the theives:

A violent teacher, a plagiarising artist, and a crime boss.

One of the series' identifying traits is its inherent wackiness. P5's got it, too.

SPOILERY STUFF!

I have a couple ideas on those bosses. The violent teacher, whom I'm assuming has an unhealthy/unethical obsession with Anne, is most likely a gym teacher. Hence his demon/shadow/whatever form's volleyball attack from PV#03. I think you can spot him as his normal human self at the one minute mark during the new PV. As for the artist, we know Yusuke is living with a famous one, so I have this suspicion he's plagiarising Yusuke's work.

I think all the dudes look really cool by the way. I have a feeling that I will like Ryuji a lot. And now with Anne putting her arm around his neck I'm almost shipping them.

Oh I agree with that. Even when we had no indication of the wacky elements that we've now seen it was a safe bet that the game wasn't going to be 100% serious, that just doesn't seem to be the kind of game that you would see in this series.

Nah, this series is pretty werid....but it's balanced with more down to earth elements. We'll have to see more of the non-dungeon gameplay, but I'm pretty sure P5 shouldn't be all insanity, all the time.

I think this will be... partly true. I think it will be much more wacky than previous games.

It looks like it's carrying on the progession from Golden, and taking it even further.

Miscellaneous info

  • Battle Command skills are Persona, item, sword (weapon), guard, gun and order.
  • Under the Gun command, there are Special & Shot commands. Guns have ammo.
  • Ryuji uses Zio, support and Physical skills
  • Anne uses Agi, Poison, support and healing skills
  • Persona's appear behind a character when selecting Persona command. It's a great touch.
  • Baton Touch seems like the replacement for One More! Still not sure how it works, but it looks like it you can switch to another character and attack again (with a boost?)
  • Follow up attacks from characters who aren't in the party are in
  • Yusuke is rolling with Katana's for his melee weapon and he keeps it sheathed. Flawless.
  • Alice is back with a revamped version of Die For Me?

I remember people saying that P5 looked much more serious and mature than P3/P4 and they thought it was going to be like P2.
I had to laugh at that when I saw the swimsuit scene in the trailer.

I agree. Even P2 has some really goofy moments.
P1 is full of WTF moments like this

There's always a potential team member shipping scenario from each game. Im guessing this is the kanji pairing with another member. I will respect the shipping in my game if they actually attempt to pair up. Open market if not.

I was pleasantly surprised by how Anne casually had her arm on Ryuji's shoulder and he wasn't phased by it at all, seems like they're good friends and not in a Yukari and Junpei situation. I like this portrayal of relationships between a guy and girl more than the casual bickering in P3 and P4

Also, i cannot wait to see how this character's personality develops. Judging from just the footage we have, she's peaking my interest the most right now

I think we've seen her in more outfits than the other characters already

Sakura definitely has the potential to be my favorite character. With the game's theme being breaking free of the shackles of society, I think she's got a lot of potential for sure given what we've seen of her.

Generally speaking I'm liking the designs of the newly revealed four party members more than the first four, with the exception of Glasses-kun.

One thing about Sakura, why are her glasses so far down her face if the bridge of them is so far above her nose?
Probably just an anatomy flub.

in theory it could be an optical illusion. Maybe the glasses are very strong so that he eyes look zoomed in.

it would never be this strong in rl through.

Going by the trash bag behind her in this shot, her headphones, her expressions and what seems to be her main talent, she might be designed to convey the shut-in/hikikomori problem/personality.
Funny, I had always been thinking of a female protagonist like that where "Personas" would be the equivalent of one's virtual/online self for a Persona 6.

Very curious to see where they go with her, especially if they're taking the hikikomori route.

I was actually wondering if she's even a student anywhere. When the whole party is together at the end of the trailer it has them all in uniform (even the other mystery male party member) but she's just wearing regular clothes.

Not everyone is in uniform. The french girl and the short-haired melee girl are both out of uniform.

For the group shot at the end? The other girls are at least wearing the school skirts.

Related, is that the
casino
you can see behind the buildings there?

You know what would really make this wacky? A bath house dungeon with a gay stereotype.

Or a talking bear costume that grows a body.

If it wasn't obvious enough from the other games, the tone switches as the situation arises. Like in P4, you go from the swimsuit/crossdressing segment to Nanako in the hospital and confronting the killer in close proximity.

The biker girl has a school uniform but her shirt says BJ in it... If I heard right she also said that she's the student council president?

Yeah it is. I guess they come back to it once they're able to actually handle it considering the Protagonist fails at some point.

Oh yeah, I'm surprised that there didn't seem to be any further hinting or reveal concerning Morgana's supposed transformation abilities. Guess they're still keeping that under wraps for now, since all indications pointed to him/her being able to transform into at least a car, motivated by being tossed in the sky.
