Further thoughts from Dantis:

First off, I posted this on Twitter, but Soejima has finally stopped matching eye colour to hair colour. Pretty much all of the P5 cast has a different eye colour to their hair colour. This makes me happy.

Also, I really like how stylish and not sexualised the female characters are. It feels like Japanese games are using cheap sexualisation more and more in games, so it's really nice to see a game where the girls are just dressed normally.

Then they ruin it all with garbage thief outfits and that fucking beach scene but whatever.

In terms of the feelings I'm getting from the character art, Haru is reminding me of Aigis, Makoto reminds of me of Naoto and Futaba is giving me Fuuka/Rei vibes. I think the characters will stand alone entirely, obviously, but these are the characters I'm most closely associating with them from the small amount that we've seen.

As far as Futaba goes, like I said in my previous post, I think people are going to be disappointed if they're expecting them to double down on the shut-in hacker thing. She's still a Persona character, so it's not going to be an accurate representation of how people like this act. The same goes for her design - she's still a Persona character, so her design has to be fashionable and attractive. I'm fairly confident that in the final game her character will be nice and normal, but a complete dork. I don't think she's going to be some super hacker weirdo who can't talk to people. It's just not how the Persona team does things.

For me;

Normal designs - Makoto > Ryuji > Anne > Futaba > MC > Haru > Yusuke

Thief designs - Haru > Anne > Yusuke > Ryuji > MC = Makoto > Futaba

Not including Morgana because, well, cat.
Not including mystery man 9 because we aint seen him properly yet.

By the by, has anyone mentioned that we now know for certain that there's a full length version of the main theme?

We don't really know for certain, do we? It's obvious that the theme in PV4 is based off the main theme, but we don't know if it's a part of the full song or a remix of it.

I may have imagined this, but I'm almost 100% sure that they streamed a longer version of the OP song during the Tokyo Tower livestream. At least there were some lyrics that I didn't recognize.

That might well be a remix, but that is almost definitely the second chorus for the opening theme.

She wears an oversized mask to hide her face when she's in the presence of several people.

Isn't that only in one shot? There's a lot more shots where she's not wearing it.

Even with other thieves in her own home, it seems.

And I'm guessing it's gonna be more ways than just a mask, if that towel thing from the trailer is anything to go by.

The towel thing is going to be a gag. Guaranteed.

I'm fucking down.

If I win, you gotta draw a sketch (no matter how ridiculous) of my choosing. If I lose, i'll draw a sketch of your choosing (lmao).

Are you down?

Game on.

Nothing pornographic or gross.
The gag doesn't have to be funny to be counted as a gag. If the tone is whimsical (Like Naoto in the hot springs in P4G), I win.

Deal?

I accept your terms.

Just so we're clear, the rest of the scene doesn't count. I'm only talking about the act of removing the towel itself.

And the reason the towel is there, yes?

I'm expecting the scene to be like this:

*Anne walks out*
Ryuji: OMG SO HAWT
*Makoto walks out*
Ryuji: OMG SO CLASS
*Futaba walks out*
Ryuji: OMG YOUR FACE
Futaba: Huh?
Makoto: You can't dress like that on the beach, Futaba-san.
*Makoto removes towel*

No, no, NO

It's going to be like this

The gang: You're coming to the beach with us, right Futaba-san/chan?
Futaba: I'd rather not...
The party: Come onnnnnnnnnn, it'll be great
Futaba: Fine...
(Futaba shows up to the beach, but she has a towel covering her face because she's afraid of showing it to others)
The kids: (stunned expressions)
Futaba: Erm, this should be fine yes?
Ryuji: Not fine, this isn't fine at all. You have a towel covering your face!?!
Anne: This again? You look fine.
Makoto: You can't dress like that on the beach, Futaba-san.
*removes towel*
Futaba: (anime blush)
The entourage: Wow..........
Makoto: See, you were pretty all along

And that my friend, is how the scene will go down.

From what I can tell, that's the first time she shows her face to others, so it'll be played sincerely to some degree.

Why do you think that's the first time she shows her face?

That seems like a stretch to me.

Because it was established that she wears things over her head when talking to others at first:

"She acts normal when she’s around the protagonist, but when she’s around multiple people we might see her wearing a strange headgear to cover up her face and head."

The beach part here is used also as a way of her finally showing off her face

Yeah...I thought it was literally said by Hashino that for a fair part of the game she'll cover her face up in public and even around the other party members (except you) so, if the bet is that the beach scene will/will not be a major portion of her development where she finally stops hiding her face from the others, I think it's pretty clear given what we have on her character ao far...

I'm going to assume that this applies to a pretty small number of her appearances.

My assumption would be that it applies to her before she joins the party.

That Makoto official artwork... I knew I picked the right waifu. Hips don't lie!

Soejima has definitely become a hips-man, haha. He draws Makoto the same way he draws Naoto and Mitsuru. There's definitely similarities between the art for the three.

I would guess that she becomes comfortable enough around the rest of the party earlier. The beach scene would be around more than just them afterall.

From all that was literally revealed about Sakura so far she seems to be pretty socially avoidant; the scans state she has problems talking to others and it apparently got so bad that some sort of incident made her not want to go to school anymore. I could believe it if you mean't "nice and normal but a complete dork" by the end of the game, but I'm pretty sure their goal for the character is to have problems interacting with and trusting others and getting through that over time. That seems like the way Persona crew would do things.

I like the one thing you two agree upon. Curious to see if Makoto is as nice as PK thinks she'll be though.

Can't things be both a gag and an important character moment?

Has there ever been an important character moment that was also funny?

Also, PK, I wouldn't frame it as 'beautiful all along', but more as a social achievement for her.
Maybe Fubata had agreed to go to the beach, but started getting cold feet and threw on that towel at the last minute as a way of backing out. Mako takes off the towel and she says "see? that wasn't so bad".

Boom. Character growth without focussing on attractiveness or her perception of it.

Depending on your interpretation of the term "funny", there was one line during the climax of Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days that was both an important character moment and funny. But I guess you were referring to Persona, so...

Does Eikichi beating the hell out of rival gang leaders count?

The way I see it, the gag is on Ryuji, who's there to ogle some ladies, then you get a weird funny gag where she's wearing a towel on her head. That's a gag no matter which way you cut it.

But if she's removing the towel on her head for the first time, regardless of whether or not there's a funny moment around it, it's an important character moment. It may not be the first time to the group, but it may be the first time in a really public setting, or in a bathing suit or something.

This just seems incredibly obvious given the fact that her whole arc is that she's a shut in.

I think Kanji punching his own shadow was played as both a gag and a "serious" moment.

But this is a weird argument/bet. I mean, Dantis is 100% correct in how the scene is going to go down:

*Anne walks out*
Ryuji: OMG SO HAWT
*Makoto walks out*
Ryuji: OMG SO CLASS
*Futaba walks out*
Ryuji: OMG YOUR FACE
Futaba: Huh?
Makoto: You can't dress like that on the beach, Futaba-san.
*Makoto removes towel*
But I feel like the important character moment is in the act of taking off the towel. There's more to the scene than just "girl wears towel on head as joke." They wouldn't show it being taken off from behind her if this was the case.

They've already said it's a while before she opens up to them and shows her face. Ryuji can see her body, his reaction is specifically at her face. It probably is the first time he's seen it.

This is a strange point of contention.

Plus there's a close up zoom to her face in the scene. Why show that otherwise?

EDIT: This is going to be a long wait till release.
