Persona Community Thread |OT8| Coming Winter 2014

Everything is speculation right now.

Everything's been speculation for the past 7 years, though.

I remember when people ran with that fanmade "P5 OST" music and design as what P5 could resemble, saying stuff like they hoped P5's music would be as good. It's probably what lead into people going nuts and suggesting stuff like Elizabeth/Labrys/Sho would be the P5 protagonist.

Anything in the first 5 years was more less a wishlist.

That's true. The evolution to "speculation" pretty much happened with its reveal in November 2013, and we didn't have much to go on there, either. In fact, everyone pretty much speculated wrongly about what Persona 5 would end up being from the first 2 teasers, from "it will be based around cell phones," to the protagonist's demeanor.

We still don't know much about it, which I think is great.

I wonder if this is the first game I can go completely media black out on.

I'll say it again: Your idea of great is my idea of terrible. I want to know more, especially about the gameplay systems. Are we using P3 or P4's variation of press turns? Something more like PQ? Do we get to steal Personas from the enemies this time? Can we use multiple Personas like 1/2/Q?

These are important details to a robot trying to categorize anything and everything, far more than your fleeting feeling of greatness! :|

Yeah. Surprise is good, but I want to know what the game is about, you know?

None of that knowledge matters to me pre-release when I've had a great time with literally every single Persona game that's been released (barring the original and the usual exceptions like pachinko, mobile...) and when I have a good feeling that P5 will continue that trend.

I'm not impatient; all I need is a release date and I'm good about knowing very little. This extends to any other games in series that I love. It's also why I have zero problem with avoiding spoilers when a game has been released in Japan before its English release.

The Phantom is a decoy protagonist. Our true hero is Jun-looking Painter Guy.

To put another silly speculation and theory in here , but the first time i see that guy in the trailer i was like "something is going on with that dude".

Maybe is the impression since he put the phrase
They are going in the road ... bla bla
seems like someone
watching over the party
than rather a party member like everyone "speculated"

Is actually the character i was most looking forward , what his deal.

(And the Fox mask one too)

This is what I have thought, as well. Combined with the fact that The Fiend With Twenty Faces is one of Hashino's direct inspirations for Persona 5, I wouldn't be surprised if he was one looking into what the thieves are doing as an antagonist, or serving a detective role, to eventually realize that they're the good guys and join them.

It sounds way too much like Naoto, though, especially since he might represent "Pride."

Edit: Now that I think about it, it wasn't mentioned whether Hashino stated it was the movie or novel version of The Fiend With Twenty Faces. If it's actually the former, it could have no implications regarding a child detective (though, it could imply rival thief confrontations).

This another idea i have in my head for a while , everyone saying the stuff about the 7 deadly sins is been represent it in the characters.

But for me looks like more a "theme" for the dungeons ... think about it in the first trailer we see the Phantom fighting in dungeon looks like
in a castle or a big mansion
, that one can represent Pride or Lust ...

And in the second one he is fighting in
a Casino
, which im pretty sure can mean Greed.

I dont know is something pop up in my head after watching the trailers too many times , im pretty sure the sins can be releated to the characters for sure ... but that Casino make me think the dungeons are going to have themes like in Persona 4
or Dancing All Night
but with the "Deadly Sins".

Just throwing another theory ... needs more info XD.

PD : Need to read that novel , and about Arsene Lupin too ... before the game come out.

Just like Persona story modes. At least Yakuza switches things up. If I never see another damned 'power of friendship' arc in another Persona game, it'll be too soon.

I'll admit I have to refer to databases in Yakuza a lot, boy does that stuff get convoluted.
Pretty sure there isn't a single Hashino game that could be considered clunky, bro.

Persona 3 and 4 are slick as heck, for what they are.

I was talking strictly in terms of story. If we're gonna judge a game as mature in tone as Yakuza, Persona's trope-fest shouldn't be immune to criticism.

PV02 was great. Everything about it looked great and that's really all I wanted.

Ah, the Versus XIII phenomenon. I wholeheartedly agree. It's best to approach things like this with as few preconceptions as possible and that comes down to how companies market their games a long time before the final release.

  1. It's 50 minutes into the SCEJA conference.
  2. The Atlus logo appears on the large screen as Hashino walks onto the stage with a bow.
  3. The usual inaudible applause from the crowd on the live stream is loud enough to be heard.
  4. Hashino opens his mouth and says: "October 29, 2015."
  5. Hashino walks off the stage as the logo on the large screen fades and transitions to Jojo's: Eyes of Heaven.
Closer to 8 days than 9.

Would be a bold move. I mean I know Square already kind of did it with FFXV, but announcing the date that they'll reveal the release date during a major press conference, that would be impressive even by P5 marketing standards.

Heh, that'd make the scenario even more amazing. Shortly after, a 13 second video goes up on atlustube with the Atlus logo and, written in Japanese in red, the words "Release Date announced on October 29th!" slowly fade in under it.

Speaking of teases, I have to wonder why Sega teased their TGS website instead of just releasing it like everyone else. We already know their TGS lineup. I wonder if they have any actual surprises or they're just being unconventional.

Mentioned July 27, Miku game confirmed August 30th. 50% now. Again, this is pure speculation going off a supposed supplier list. I am not a insider or anything. Just something that I heard around my workplace.Take it with a pinch of salt.

Hopefully the second part of the rumours will somewhat be real, somehow.

Maybe if we believe hard enough, the things we want will become real.

Hm, that's interesting. If that turned out to exist, it'd probably be the Sega home console game announcement for TGS they talked about before.

Though, I'd still be surprised if they announced that 5 days before the SCEJA conference on their teaser website. Maybe there'll be hints towards certain things, which is why they teased it and are releasing it later than other companies.

The rumors have been scarce this year, where are the lists?

Ok, this condition crap is ruining P3 FES for me.

I barely go up two floors before my whole team getting tired. Wtf.

I already dont know how far am I supposed to go, how strong am i supposed to get and now I need to know which enemies to fight and which to dodge?

I cant even explore for treasure because i risk running into enemies i cant "afford" to fight before I reach a boss somewhere.

Oh but despite all that I managed to fight a fucking reaper as a lv 5 MC. :/

This is not fun so far.

Seriously guys, how am i supposed to handle tartarus early on?

Thank god you don't get tired while exploring Tartarus in P3P. I'm still baffled how some people recommend FES over P3P when the typical "what version?" thread pops up. If you want cutscenes go and watch the movies.

Yeah man, all FES has going for it over P3P are anime cutscenes. And the "go watch a movie instead" argument concerning video games always makes so much sense.

Essentially, that is all it has that isn't subjective. I could care less that P3P plays like a visual novel, I still enjoyed it.

But this is pretty typical posturing between Persona fanbases, I found. Not only between the different games and eras, but between fans of the same game over which version they played.

It's not posturing: it's called preference. Like it or not, "subjectivity" is what the debate is based on, and that's why it pretty much goes 50% both ways. There have been people who played P3P and then couldn't deal with it, appreciating FES much more, and others who played FES first and had to give it up until they found P3P.

Having one's own preference is fine, but being disingenuous about an opposing position to make yours seem better is the most laughable thing ever. At least be honest about the positives and negatives of both positions, while acknowledging the fact that some place more importance on the positives of FES, and your opinions are different.

Yes and no. Your team can still get sick. It just doesn't tell you straight out that they are getting tired. You'll find this out the next time you try to go to Tartarus.

I don't think it's subjective. P3P ruining the dramatic impact of key events is absolute fact.

Generally, with Persona 3, you should always make it to the next checkpoint each time you go even if you have to wait til next time to fight the boss.

as the game goes on you can stay longer and longer. You aren't supposed to be spending long stretches of time in there. If i wanted to level up, i would just focus on that and if i wanted to get further I would just focus on that.

YOU DONT?!?!

Son of a bitch. You'd think ppl would mention THAT more in comparisons threads. I read a bunch of them and never saw that.

Presentation really matters to me but i hate this mechanic so much that i might actually buy portable just to get rid of it. :/

It gets better as you go. It's supposed to suck in the beginning because you're not supposed to be able to traverse very far if you're focusing on enemies and vice versa.
