Persona Q: Shadow of the Labyrinth |OT| -- No Dating, Just Dungeons

I've never experienced this in any other Persona or SMT game before, but I'm finding it hard to justify Persona fusion in PQ--like, I'm having a hard time leaving the ones I currently have behind. Nothing in the Velvet Room really warrants the sacrifice (yet!). My party is around 14-15, and in in Dungeon 2, so maybe that has something to do with it?

Am I the only one?

I felt a little similar, but the problem comes when you are suddenly 5+ levels higher than your subpersonas - the skills become less effective when there's that much of a gap.

The main difference is that compared to persona, your primary stats are not derived from your personas. So like in Persona 3/4 even if you have a guy with great skills if his magic stat is low for your level you are forced to upgrade.

Here, the health/sp buffs are nice but not so dramatically different on higher level persona that it doesn't matter if the skills are good. Coupled with the fact that a lot of the best skills can't be transfered, and I would often go 10+ levels before feeling any kind of need to fuse new persona.

Like on my link specialist, golden link was essential and non-transferable. So I could only ever give him a new persona when I found another one with golden link.

I'm in the second dungeon now and man...

There are two doors on the first floor where shadows get the jump on you and wreck your shit hard. They get the first turn (five of those stone-like shadows) and they use stona to petrify my party. Is there some kind of strategy to defeat these guys? My party is lvl 18 now btw

That's good to know, but it makes me realize I fucked up by ditching Kanji's fully leveled Nata Taishi, which had a really solid set of skills. Now I have him using Oni, which isn't nearly as well-rounded (even if the HP boost is marginally better).

Would it be worth re-summoning him from the compendium, or should I hold out for something better? And come to think of it, I'm having a hard time picking the most effective sub-Persona skillets for P4MC, P3MC (who is my healer, currently), and Naoto (who is my Mudo/Hama machine).

At level ~15 it probably won't take you long to find something better so probably not worth resummoning unless you are just rolling in money.

I also struggled with what persona to give my P4MC. I mostly just gave him support stuff to buff/heal everyone else.

My 2 characters that I built around were Akihiko who makes an amazing natural link specialist because he just naturally hits hard and goes first. So no need to spend a round buffing his speed. And I had Chie who was focused on power charge -> kill things. At the end it was power charge -> myriad arrows combined with the accessory that gives + accuracy, damage passives, and the skill that sometimes makes you trigger attack skills twice. Late game she would sometimes hit things for like 20k damage.

And then I had Zen who is pre-built + Yukiko where I was boring and just had fire/heals.

Get Naoto Impure Hands ASAP. The first persona that has it is Incubus, IIRC, and he also gives the skill card. You're still pretty early on so it won't be readily available yet, but it's something to look forward to.

Need help in 3rd Labyrinth floor 2:

It''s in A4 and B4 on the map. The starting point is B.3, 4.2... if those coordinates make sense.

The unfortunate reality of my preference for Kanji is that I will have to buff his speed for that, but he does hit hard! Or would Chie be better for links? She actually just learned Power Charge, so I'm going to keep your strategy in mind.

Great, I actually have Incubus right now but didn't see any reason to use him. I'm on it!

Kanji learns Bestial Roar & Dragon Cry, which buff his attack and make him go first each turn, so he's great as a linker.

Chie is slow as well. So if you've already built Kanji, I see no reason to switch. The reason why I think akihiko is the best linker is because he always goes first in every battle ever. So he can link for big damage against trash mobs without buffing. But for bosses, Kanji (probably?) dishes out more raw damage.

Just had a thought since I hadn't played around much with Circles (mostly). Do they stack? Can you have multiple circles on the battlefield at one time?

TheSeks

Blinded by the luminous glory that is David Bowie's physical manifestation.
Tempest Slash is crazy good. I never used HP skills in Persona but here the multi-hit skills are too good to pass up on the HP buff to use.

I had Thor for Akihiko and Mara for Kanji (lol) but I don't think they're as effective as their previous Sub Persona (Siegfried and Mishaguji), so right now I'm using Siegfried for Aki again since it has Immunity Buffer and I'm fusing Thor + Mara + Mishaguji for a Byakko for Kanji, but I don't know which skill to pass.

I can only pass four and the options are: Heavy Shot, Myriad Arrows, Photon Edge, Thunder Smash, Nuclear Blast, Brain Shake, Stardrop, Death Counter, Frost Link and Bloody Vanguard. Kanji already learnt Thunder Smash, Aki has Brain Shake and I have Tousatsujin in Byakko as a replacement for Frost Link, so I guess those options are out.

Don't forget about the link passives :V

For me part of the fun comes from cheesing the experience. How hard can you cheese something? How many different ways can you destroy a boss in the fewest amount of turns?
Also yeah PQ is easy as hell. Going back to EO2 made me realize the struggle is real.

EO2 had struggle?

EO2 had its own Naoto, too.

This.

Powered up Kanji is what you want for big fights.

But Akihiko runs the link train all over the trash mobs.

Who are we kidding? The trash dies fast enough from one cast by Naoto.

Finally got the money to get myself the PQ 3DS, to bad it doesn't come with the game. Now I have to wait another 2 weeks for my next check to get the game.

Would you all recommend getting it on Amazon? (I'm looking to buy the collector's edition of the game)

Man... why can't we get that in New 3DS form? :/

I'm going to be buying either this or Fantasy Life for a friend.

Is the 10$ extra price tag worth it if said friend greatly enjoyed Persona 3 (he's a big fan of the story and the main character not getting a Disney ending) but hated 4 (for having a Disney ending), and has never played an Etrian game?

You're going to be dropping $$$ for the DLC in Fantasy Life, anyway.

Seriously... it's that integral.

Might as well go for whichever game you think he'd like most.

Oh there's DLC for Fantasy Life? I don't want to gift a gimped game if the DLC is so important.

Alright then, since I have no idea how he'd react to FLife, I'll just take my chances with Persona Q going better since he's got some investment in the Persona line of games even if the Etrian elements may or may not click with him.

Yeah, why the heck release a PQ 3DS XL when there's the New 3DS coming over? :(

Well, he can play the P3 side (which includes development for the SEES as a whole) and use an only P3 characters team if he wants.

Yeah - the DLC is the best part of Fantasy Life, by far, imo.

It is not to be left not downloaded, if you are going to play at all.

I can't remember if I was more patient fusing in p4g or of the fusing system seemed easier

I can't figure out why stuff won't inherit... At least without getting out an FAQ...

Sigh

http://i.imgur.com/z2dgkvd.jpg full map. You have to do a full loop to go through gate 1 from the south side to start off.

There's quite a lot of skills that you can't pass on. Stuff like Power/Mind charge, Golden Link, essentially the most useful skills that you'd want to keep around. I don't think there's any fixed rule to it.

Yeah I got that feeling too. This game seems really lacking in personas compared to other titles in the series, and personas not conferring elemental resistances removes from their uniqueness too.

Perhaps, but whatever uniqueness is lost is, in my opinion, made up for in the increased level of customisation and balance across the party than in P3/4. Fusing, I think, serves a somewhat different purpose here than in 3/4, at least until the last two fusion options are unlocked.

Even If We Return....
and
Let's Do It, New Partner!
are excellent strolls. <3 Just saved a file for watching them.

And holy crap
this dungeon
is making me rich! I now have over 1,000,000 yen!
does junpei sound like a completely different voice actor to someone else?
Nope. His "Tadadada!" and "Sup dude?" sound identical to P3.

Is any of the DLC worth it? Or is it mostly just extra flavor and I don't need to bother with it?

The DLC is completely non-essential - just little extras as you say, like different navigator voice packs and a few special personae that have unique OP skills. Nanako as navigator is pretty great, though.

Tangentially related to the navigator DLC, I was trying to think of a situation where I would want more Marie in the game and coming up blank. Then I stumbled upon something in my key items - a quest punishment reward
called pathos recorder that allows you to fall in love with Marie's poetic genius all over again
. It's cool that the option is there, but I'd pay good money for DLC that replaced all of that with toneless songs about Igor. Or just a loud droning sound, I don't know.
