Persona4 the Golden ANIMATION: Thursdays at 12 PM (PDT), begins July 10, 2014

Marie is definitely better in the show than she is in the game, but she's still full-on tsundere which is bleeeeeeh.

I'm looking forward to the rest of the season, though. I'm enjoying watching it a lot.

Haha I love how the stats pentagon is maxed out in the opening. This is so blatantly a New Game +

Love this.

I really enjoyed this episode too. They're doing such a better job of integrating Marie into regular events. The beach scene was pretty hilarious and I really liked the whole videotape confessions. Especially both serious lens crafter Teddie and him bonding with Marie about not knowing who he was.

I just tried watching this, CR wasn't having it, even an hour roughly after it first went up, freezing and buffering issues. :/

Oh well, hopefully soon.

Just finished watching it, really enjoyed it.

I think the
video camera scenes, including the bit where it is auto-playing
scenes were really good added material.

Also Nanako <3

Looking forward to next weeks episode.

I cracked up with Kanji this episode. Holy crap having played through it I knew what was coming but damn, they exceeded my expectations. I was legit dying.

I love the Golden animation so far. Considering how quickly everything has been moving along, the first episode's fight scene is even more hilarious the further we get into the series. Pretty cool, though, and can't wait to learn more about Marie in next week's episode!

We'll learn more about Marie as the series goes on.

.

Loved the episode this week, taking the events of Golden and putting their own spin on it is really starting to pay off. Not only was the humour sharper than in the game, but Marie feels like an integral part of the series now rather than being tacked on prior to January.

Will we be getting Naoto this next episode? I can't remember what other Golden events they might still have to cover if there are any in between.

Atlus is really trying hard to push Marie.

What if Marie is the protagonist for Persona 5?

I have been pondering if I ought to watch it given I have not played any of the Persona games but I am thoroughly interested to do so in the near future. As such, how big of a spoiler would the show be?

Quite, a lot of things will be out of context but all major characters including consequences will be shown in some way. Also Marie and Adachi SLs will be somewhat spoiled. (not done in the same way as the game but the basic premise will be and the conclusions).

In short, watch the first anime or play P4G before watching P4GA

Definitely play p4g first the anime is great but I enjoyed it alot more after the game, had watched the 1st ep and didnt like it tht much, played the game cos of gaf hype and now my 2nd fav game ever :) had missed games that focus on characters but dont forget to have a story as well. Thinking of persona 3 portable next, as a teenager I played upto December aand got bored now I think it could be amazing

Thanks. Btw, what is this anime you speak of?

Within two weeks I've gone from knowing nothing about Persona (4) to beating the game and seeing the entire first anime. I'm hooked now. Finished the last episode earlier today, and I'm going to watch this new one soon too.

Are there any plans for an English dub?

No plans yet, but with only 13 episodes, I imagine it'll come over.

Haven't heard anything about an English dub, yet, but it's Persona 4 so I would bank on it! ^_^ But yeah, you wrote a LTTP thread on it, didn't you? Persona is amazing!

Sentai hasn't licensed it, and the fact that it's simulcasting on Crunchyroll instead is odd. It likely all depends on how well P4 did for them.

It also has a dub available.

P4GA is more of a supplement to either this or P4G on Vita. It skips over most events that were already done in the previous anime or the game. Most of it includes the new events with Marie animated and new stuff like Beach and Scooters that are new additions to P4G (which the vanilla P4 on PS2 didn't have)

You could consider P4A, a first run through of the game and P4GA, a New Game+ run through. It's more or less implied since in the op of P4GA, behind Yu is his stats circle maxed out.

Persona 4 Golden Episode 4

I don't care.

That is the main thought that was running through my mind as I watched this episode. Much like Marie's memories, my recollection of this episode is fading into a deep and all consuming fog. I just don't care. I think when I said that I wanted Marie to be more organically involved with the main group, I didn't mean doubling down on shoving the main group on Marie's business. There's a pretty fundamental issue with the writing and adaptation of her events because despite involving the rest of the team, none of them do or add or contribute anything as a team and are just there to catch Marie's angst because none of them were originally expected to be there. It changes nothing about how insincere the attempts made at making Marie seem like an important center point of the group later on because it hasn't actually fixed or made an effort to resolve what made it feel so artificial.

Episode 1 was indulgent in its' stupidity and irreverence. In that aspect, I could say that I got a weird amount of amusement out of how stupid it could get. Episode 4 is just dull. I don't care about anything that's happening with Marie especially and it's moving forward with events that assumes it's made me care, but it's done nothing from a direction and certainly not from a pacing standpoint to deserve it.

Meanwhile, I find it really difficult to digest how this show expects to be given the benefit of the doubt as a less serious take on the Persona 4 narrative with unmentioned or acknowledged shortcuts aplenty, when the tone is so clearly inconsistent. It wants to have its' dramatic cake and eat it too. I feel like tying in Marie's drama about her memories (not actually fundamentally terrible) into the most irrelevant and plainly comedic 'event' in the game (to the point where it's cordoned off to the TV extras) is more or less a summary of that kind of tonal conflict. Not to say that comedy and drama can't be executed well together, but execution is important, and Golden uses comedy as a crutch to hold up the deficiencies with the drama (and often than the reverse) rather than a confident utilization of both.

This is to say nothing of the uninspired direction, obviously confusing pacing, and the steadily degenerating character art.

At the end of the day, I didn't really care about anything that happened in this episode. I didn't hate it. I didn't like it. It felt like wasted time.

The band event is next episode and if nothing else I can only hope that Golden does it some measure of justice.

also the naked marie ED sucks

P4GA Episode 4

Oh god, the cringe. Can we just have more of how clever and funny the opening was, and less of whatever the hell happened after?

Yet another enjoyable episode, I was wondering how they could possibly squeeze the quiz show into the series with it feeling disjointed, yet they solved that problem easily. Can't wait to see how they handle the Adachi social link next episode.
