Persona4 the Golden ANIMATION: Thursdays at 12 PM (PDT), begins July 10, 2014

They're really pushing the "Sister Complex Kingpin of Steel" thing, huh

Well, at least I really enjoyed Yu's "just as keikaku" moment. Interesting take on S. Link juggling.

But yeah, if it wasn't made clear with episode 1, episode 2 leaves no doubt that this anime is not made for Persona 4 newcomers in any capacity. Stuff's weird, and I don't think I'll get used to it any time soon.

A good example is Full Metal Alchemist compared to Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood. Same story at first but they were able to skip alot of the filler in Brotherhood since you had already seen it in the original or in the Manga.

Not sure that'd be a great comparison, as someone who was mainly introduced to the FMA story through Brotherhood. I wouldn't know since I didn't see most of the original series or read the manga, but at least everything was clear and coherent watching FMA:B. If one did not know what P4 or P4G was going into P4GA, they would have absolutely no idea what the hell was going on.

I hate begging, but would anyone have a Crunchyroll guest pass? The impressions here have left me curious. Thanks

Many thanks to a fellow GAFer's generosity :)

Just finished up episode 2.

Watching this hurts me inside :(

Oh wait, that's just Marie being shoved down my throat. Just rename the darn show already!
Even when I've seen the first anime and played the game, this just doesn't seem fun to watch without the demon fighting. Or just anything not Marie for that matter.

I'll keep watching but I won't like it. *grumble grumble*

Only good scene was the Nanako bit.

Is there a dub planned for this?

This version of the anime is meant to be the equivalent of a New Game + play through. If youve seen the original animation then you wouldnt want to see the same scenes retold again. Even the main character knows hes done all this before and isnt as shy as he was at first. Hes already learned everything from the first anime and now hes able to choose different paths along with the new character Marie adding extra story. Once the show gets into its groove it wont feel like its being rushed through anymore. It definitely feels abit weird at first but im actually really happy that they didn't just do a direct retelling of the same story.

I am aware of what this it trying to do, what I am saying is this new episode sucked terribly and I could have lived without it being spot welded to Golden here.

You'll learn to love her. ^_^ I don't know of any dub plans, but if it gives them an opportunity to keep pushing out Persona 4-related content, my guess would be "Yes." Who knows, though? Hard to say -- just have to wait and see how the series does!

P4GA 2

That wasn't too bad. Definitely more enjoyable than the first episode, since it exclusively focused on the Golden content. I'm glad they decided to have fun with Yu's character again; eccentric Yu who tries to please everyone (and fails) >>> cool guy mcperfect pants. The episode also gets points for making Marie actually fairly tolerable. This anime has pretty much solidified itself as a slice of life sitcom type show at this point, and i'm totally ok with that. This episode reminded me of the 2 episodes social link episodes from the original anime (which were hands down the best episodes in the original anime) so if they continue in that direction, I think I could actually end up enjoying this anime overall.

Other stuff:

-The art, while much better than before is still inconsistent and ugly at times (Especially Dojima. Dojima will always look like shit)
-I hate how they blatantly reused on the old anime OST. It really bugs the hell out of me!
-They're reaaaaaaally pushing the siscon thing with Yu.
-While i'm glad they showcased most of the potential flirt options for Yu, I wish they covered that angry phone call scene and the sexually ambiguous police officer!

as someone who isnt that familiar with persona 4 (i havent played the games and only watched a few episodes of the first anime) i kinda like golden lol. I dont really mind marie either (but it could just attribute to based hanazawa who seems to be in everything as of late lol)

Also i quite liked the second episode i really liked the humor and when reach out to the truth started playing as yu made his plans made me laugh a lot.

lol at the pic...scarily accurate.

Hope there's a dub. Yosuke and now Kanji just sounds weird to me in Japanese.

Well a majority of the new content in P4G is focused around Marie and she's voiced by the biggest seiyuu atm so...

I will never understand this HanaKana fascination.

So as they speed run through everything else, is
Marie's dungeon
going to last like 8 episodes? I'm a little worried about that.

There's only 10 episodes left and they still have a lot of P4G content to work with.

LTTP, this game is kicking my ass right now

It's fucking brilliant, but I'm over micromanaging every day and I don't know how to just stop and enjoy it, it's literally making me mad

I don't have any problem with that, more Marie is always great.

That was a great episode, definitely more enjoyable than the first.
I'm glad that we're getting more Golden content and less vanilla stuff.

The show is very "anime" and even references other post-90s "I don't tell my friends I watch this" shows

That's actually in P4G as well.

Everything thus far iirc is in the game.
Except for that weird stipulation with the bet, and Ai Ebihara being at the store event. I'm pretty sure only the main crew ever interacted with Marie in the game
.

Loved ep. 2, was so good. And yes, after playing P4G as well as watching the anime, it was great to just see all the relevant P4G stuff while utilizing Nice Guy Yu.

I so cannot wait for next week's episode.

The line was in the game but the show has taken it further to show a parody of the character as well

Entertaining episode, glad they're skipping all the smaller stuff and just focusing on bigger events, too bad the animation is still really bad

Alright so this is basically what Fumoffu was to Full Metal Panic, focusing mostly on the humorous slice of life antics instead of the main story. I'm fine with that.

except fumoffu looked good and this show is produced by A-1 Pictures staff who are using the toilet while working on SAO2.

only scene in the ep that was not animated in a bathroom stall:

Sweet! I had no idea this was coming, and I only watched the first episode of the original P4 anime.

Golden was amazing, so i'll definitely check this out on Hulu.

Gonna say that Marie has to be the most polarizing character in the Persona series next to Ken at least.

Even though people hate her, they'll watch. Lol?

Edit for flux.

guess everyone is a tsundere for Marie

"b-b-baka! Don't misunderstand! It's n-not like I'm watching this anime for you, Marie! You got t-that?!"

*Marie seems unfazed, but hurt inside*

then people are thinking, oh why can't I be honest with my feelings

typical tsundere behavior right here

To be honest, me neither. She is a good voice actor though, not gonna deny that.
She's ok.

Urusai! >///<

I just watched the first episode was good, will probably watch all this as it airs. Its been a while since I watched P4A so this golden is completely new in terms of animation, art, scenes? Its not just recycling from P4A with a slightly different account of events?

I think the second episode should give you a good idea of what to expect; the first episode has a few scenes that are somewhat recycled since they need to introduce the characters and such (although they're told a bit differently than in P4A), but all of the scenes from episode 2 are exclusive from Golden.

Watched the second episode and thought it was pretty funny. I know from this episode forward that this is more or less just gonna be a slice of life comedy, though I'm okay because of how funny it is.
That scene with Hanako oh man, just beautiful.

Plus I'm really digging ED Dazzling Smile
