i'm guessing those numbers ticking away in the corner are frames of animation right? top frame being 49. whaddaya think? someone re-wrap the gif using 60 frames and see what it looks like!!!

no. i really doubt that the "haze" would animate that quickly if each of those frames is 1/60th of a second....

I think it's 49fps until proven otherwise. They should have shown 60 followed by fps and made sure to indicate it wasn't the number of first person shooters on the XBOX this year.

Yes, heat haze is fluid in motion. HOWEVER, this gif is just random shots of it to show off the effect. It's not indicative of framerate whatsoever.

No, it would mean that the heathaze has several frames of animation, it doesn't necessarily mean it ends at 60 frames.

In the original PGR, the game moved at 60fps, while the reflection maps only updated every 1/30th of a second so I guess the answer is yes....

This is stupid. 49 frames is an arbitrary value unless for some reason the animation for the heat haze is set to repeat exactly after 0.816 seconds.

Think for a moment. Why would they even bother to number the frames? For what purpose? It's not as if they are canned frames of animation. It's a dyanmically generated animation. I can't think of no other purpose then for numbering the frames to see how many frames was generated per second.

i'm not saying its the frame rate. i'm saying that they took 4 of the 60 frames and made it into a gif. they just chose 49 as the final frame for the gif but it actually runs thru 60 if my theory is correct. anyone know a good gif program thats free? i'd like to mess around with this myself and loop in 60 frames instead of 4.

Racing games should not be allowed to run below 60fps. Seriously...it's not that 30fps is unplayable. But when you get a taste of the 60fps goodness and then step back to 30fps, you can feel the difference. It's not a lack of precision in the controls, since those are sampled independant of framerate. It's the lack of precision in the player, since at 60fps, your brain is getting that extra bit of visual data to process, so you can make your decision on those tweener frames that would have been dropped/eliminated for 30fps.

I believe GT1 had a bonus mode when you beat the game that let you run at 60fps with lowered detail in the scene. And the game just felt that much better. Trying to remember if that was the game that had it, or if it was another one. Anyway, 60fps or die, bitches. PEACE.

i've been thinking about something. when a dev gets specs for hardware, if you wanted to hit 60 fps, wouldnt you just calculate some parameters first before you even started working on the game to ensure that the end product would indeed hit 60fps and not go beyond the set parameters that would prevent that? games that dont hit a solid 60 seem like they were done the other way around. like a dev just kept throwing stuff at the hardware and then go "oops" when the game runs like shit and start having to scale back.

Yeah, it is suprising to me that MS would force HD compliance before 60fps. I mean, I think it is great what they are doing (all games 720p, live aware), but 60fps would benefit a larger chunk of the market than HD.

Exactly. In RPG's, for example, I would rather have 30fps and more detail than 60fps. There's just not really any need to run at 60fps in some games.
