Phil Spencer confirms Overwatch, Diablo and Call Of Duty are headed to Game Pass

Right now there are a lot of FPS games I'd play on Xbox that I have to run on PC because the mouse and keyboard support is so inconsistent. For example currently Overwatch is controller-only.

Because Halo supports it, I wonder if this being under the MS umbrella will change anything? Like right now there are a bunch of Doom games on Gamepass which I pay for but they may as well be invisible because no mouse support. If they took this stance with Halo though, and are acquiring all these FPS heavy IP I'm crossing my fingers all those CODs, Dooms, OW's and the like have mouse support...

More and more games has keyboard and mouse support.

Hopefully more third party games will follow suit. Its already possible on pc, why not enable it for console users as well.

Guess it's cool, but OW2 mp will be free-to-play anyway.
Campaign won't tho.

Yep I've seen the list, but for example both Overwatch and Doom don't have it, and they're both games I play and are involved in the merger.

I hope they put the older CoD games on Gamepass, especially World at War, MW II, and MW III. I love those games, but the player count is too low, and it's too hard to find matches.

Dont want to burst your bubble, but unless this is written in a contract somewhere these are just words - the moment Activision merger gets approved it can change very quickly.
It's the words we have though and I am not going to try and interpret their intentions years down the road

They left Minecraft alone I see no reason they would take away COD as it generates a ton of money on PS

Just stick it on Gamepass and give perks and it will move the needle for the die hard COD fan base

I feel your pain.

I invested in a Xim Apex 4 years ago. Best investment.

It will be interesting to see what happens when COD is added to Game Pass.
  • How likely are people that ONLY play COD to transition towards paying a subscription fee monthly — their decision: pay a one-time fee of $$70/100 to keep playing or pay $10/15 monthly which amounts to $120/180 a year. I know people here keep using the word FREE and these corps have done a good job at convincing most of us that paying monthly gives it to you free but we're paying for it. Just differently.
The challenge for MS and Sony with their own sub is, convince those people that paying them monthly is better than paying one-time and move on. However, COD games so far have been yearly releases anyway and those people are essentially subscribed to COD in a way. MS will need to highlight that point for sure.

Don't forget you probably get game pass exclusive cosmetics etc with game pass.

Halo has gotten a lot of exclusive cosmetics, and wouldn't surprise me if call of duty will as well.

That and probably the cost factor highlighting that for about same amount of money that they are currently paying yearly anyway to play COD, they can get access to those perks and bunch of other games. I know someone who only plays COD but they never tried out anything else and I wonder if this how most COD players are (likely not). It's going to be interesting to see what happens from now to then.

They can still buy the game as a one off purchase on Xbox platforms.

Or they could buy a month and play through the campaign and play warzone for free afterwards.

Of course, they get access to all the other games on gamepass too. So there's a fair amount of extra value in gamepass. But for people who buy a console to play COD exclusively, the gamepass deal might change nothing, as you say.

If the mentioned games hit Gamepass day 1 then I honestly can't understand how the service is going to be sustainable?

They'd need 100 million subscriptions or more to make it profitable. Maybe this move gets them there in 5 years.

I've heard about it but am leery.

I'm the kind of guy that doesn't even like to plug a mouse into a hub, a prefer directly into the motherboard. Now we're talking using a mouse with games that don't even have mouse support, with some sort of stick emulated hardware/software layer...

It works to your satisfaction??

They get together in groups of 5 and buy the family plan? :messenger_beaming:

Seriously though, people often view small recurring fees differently than they do even modestly larger one-off purchases. That's why the monthly gym memberships that people never use have been so popular. Plus, GP would have a lot more to offer.

COD and Diablo heading to GP. Thanks! Two games I buy since they dont go on sub plans.

Amazing how some people dont like giving consumers good value.

Hey, you're still getting these Activision games. You just got to pay up, while if you're an Xbox GP member you get perks. Just like any membership.

So are we getting the new mw2 day one on game pass?
No. The deal won't have been done by then and Activision may have deals in place that would prevent that happening too - Sony has marketing for the next couple of games - it's possible that they have a clause about games not appearing on rival platform subscriptions for x amount of months/ (s). Not sure how likely that is, however.

You insert the dongle like a normal USB unit, and then there's a hub of 3 USB ports, one to keyboard, mouse and controller.

From there on you use their app on your phone to select what game you are going to play. Different games requires different configs given aiming in every game is different from each developer.

It sounds more complicated than it is. Let's say you mainly play Destiny 2 atm, then you just set it up to load destiny 2 config file at each upstart.

It's not completely native like on a PC,but it's pretty close.

Some games also work better than others. Shooters are always great, I play Destiny 2 with one. The only thing that sucks there is driving since it takes a long time to turn around. Otherwise it's pretty great. I can't live without it.

Not mine clip, but shows how close it is to keyboard and mouse.

The thing about CoD is that most of the revenue is coming from the season passes. So while Game Pass saves the user some money... unless you're just playing it for the campaign its not that great of a deal.

$70 is a great deal of saving, no matter how you slice it.

Which in turn does lead to asking the question that if GP is the future of CoD, is the campaign element living on borrowed time? Its a hugely expensive part of the experience to produce after all.

It's going to be a retail product on Steam, PlayStation and Switch. None of those have anything to do with Gamepass. Why would you imagine GP would change the way the games are made?

MS is betting on Game Pass getting huge games worth owning(CoD, Diablo 4, Starfield) every 3-4 months and smaller games that look good but aren't worth buying but are still worth keeping a sub for every month. People using Netflix for 1-2 different shows a year don't worry about the sub fee and forget they are even paying it. That is what MS is hoping for.

But yeah, if they really ONLY play CoD, they may as well just buy the games and forget about Game Pass.

Really though the Ultimate edition plus a year of Gold is the same price as GPU, so you don't save any money either way, especially if they start offering GPU monthly perks like they do for Halo, PSO and a few other games.

They can make it enticing to subscribe.
