Amazon own twitch and have their own Amazon prime service, what has over 200 million subscribers. (April 2021 numbers)
Now imagine how easy it will be for Amazon to put Luna in the hands of prime members (trial or as an extension to the service) or advertise on twitch, I can genuinely see why Microsoft see Amazon as threat.
Google on the other hand, will probably kill stadia, like everything else they kill.

And nowdays is highly likely that by releasing on PC + console you will have a higher chance to sell than releasing on a just refreshed closed platform ..It's very likely to imagine Forza h5 having same number or surpass PS5 spiderman or demons souls remake

Like Billions were put into his pitch that he sold Nadella. It's the only reason XBox has the backing financially it does now. If he wants to believe his own BS then go ahead. But all the money spent on Third party deals for Gamepass, and all the money invested with Buying Studios and then buying a fucking Publisher for 7.5Billion he needs to go back and look at the sheets.
Azure infrascructure with Gamepass, and Xbox Gamepass Cloud which will need data centers which means more server blades of xbox's, and azure servers means bigger money for Microsoft in terms of making their enterprise products look great to other companies hell Sony is using their servers now.
It is all about Gamepass. It's literally the thing they advertise all day long in every event they have been doing. It's Gamepass/xcloud which = Ecosystem Vision.
Phil is not being honest. If thats what he believes, then man Executives that agreed to the influx in support/cash for Xbox pulled the wool over good ol Phill.

Given the ratio of hardware sold, not really a shock. I would like to see "attach rates" per publisher per platform, that could be interesting to see. I think Japanese pubs will skew obviously towards Sony, but interested about the western devs.

They put a bit of effort in it for a few months but since September it's back to being bad again, 4 games in December (a key month where people have holidays in the West) is a joke. Put the two side by side and it's just weird (which is why I don't believe all the revamp rumors btw).

I'm saying Sony need to build console hardware (that cost them) to put in the datacenter they rent (that cost them) more availability Sony want more datacenters Sony need and the more money it has to shell out on rent and maintenance of the hardware. The most plausible reason for the absence of psnow in most of the countries is precisely economic. Sony would spend more than there are earning at the moment ... which makes you realize how wrong you are. Sony removed the pre-installation of the psnow app from their televisions due to the fact that the service was underdeveloped globally.
Google Ms and Amazon have the most datacenter set up in the whole world that costed them tens of billions and years to build up ...and those datacenters already paying for themself and making money with other business....putting some new racks inside it is not a big deal for them.
Nowdays there's no way that Sony could compete with Ms Google or Amazon on services based on datacenters and cloud without giving up a huge chunk of the profit compared to the others. For this reason Sony has been reluctant to develop more psnow but I believe it will absolutely be forced in the future.

Xbox needs to build console hardware too and place them in racks (cost them also money). Xbox itself is a inhouse customer for Azure, it's not free or something. Every department has it's own budget and they also need to pay for it.
It was online far before MS had anything similar in the works. You are the one that doesn't know how cloud services work in the end, and still thinks that Xbox can get every space at Azure if they want, but that's not the case at all.
What is your point here? These datacenters are not only for themselves..heck they rent most of the space for other companies that can use it. But what is your point?
Sony can't have the same...is that what you want to say? What's the difference if they change the hardware for PS5 hardware tomorrow? Nothing, it will be completely the same as Gamepass. The only difference would be the content, and that's up to PlayStation on what they want day one.
Gamepass and PSNow in the end are just the Xbox store and PS store with a subscription model on top of it. Only the streaming part needs custom console hardware in the racks. If PS removes the payment system from PS Store....it will be the same, download whatever you want.

Demons Souls no doubt, Spider no chance. For example, FH5 is already losing steam alas Morales still sells to this day.
Still, it's true xbox as hardware wasn't enough, so MS reinvented itself for games. But xbox hardware is also essential for GP sucess. Someday, this service could be profitable.
Why I kinda expect a cloud only model eventually and also them to continue to bundle deals into other packages like mobile contracts.
P.s the question of how much uptake it would get is obviously an unknown

I never said it's free. The facts are that Xcloud is available where psnow is not even though it is a much younger service. The fact is that Ma has already replaced everything with the Xbox series x and psnow it is stuck on PS3 and PS4.
Uhm what does it matter who launched the stream first? Sony bought OnLive and gaikai infrastructure and tech to rename them psnow ... these companies almost went bankrupt while streaming well before many others. Psnow was a failure for Sony so much that it now has to rename and insert it (as per rumor) into ps + Xbox clearly have the support of all of Microsoft and Nadella at this point to doubt it after all the interviews with Nadella and after the 7b spent on Bethesda is stupid. So yes I believe. That azure division can give Xbox division everything they need without any prob.
Sony can have what they want they can also rent all the datacenters from Google Amazon and Azure if they want...and if they pay enough. Probably would go bankrupt in some years but yeah they can do it.
The models are differnts Ms own the windows Os so it doesn't see that platform as a rival rather bringing users them ... it helps the operating system stay on top of the wave against MacOS and everyone else. Sony losing the walled garden of the console enters a much riskier world for them.

Uhm, you know the reason. For most part of the existence of the company. Xbox was never really a match for PS. PS sells tons of games via retail and PS store. Xbox abandoned their consoles very quick without any support in the past. They haven't released any worthwhile game for a long long time, and still can't manage to launch their main franchise as a whole game. This year ended again with 2 games we all know already by now.
The only one that needed big changes is MS and not Sony. The last one isn't in a hurry and then again, Jim already said last year that they had info about a "gamepass" compatitor, but couldn't say more. Atm, you are only guessing nothing more then that.
Who cares if they rename it. The PS+ service is already a better then Gold and PSNow in general. Combine that with everything PSNow and overhaul it with new hardware in the racks and PS5 games/streaming, then they are done imo. The only thing they need to do is to release it on other devices or tv's again.
Again, this has all to do with Xbox that was just a pile of shit for 2 generations. They needed some big changes.

Os has nothing to do with all of this. It only benefits the MS store or development for their software but nothing else. Sony can have their service on Windows like Steam, Epic Store or whatever. They don't compete with Windows and that also makes no sense.

Honestly Ps + today like Gold yesterday are forced services ... the user MUST necessarily pay them to access the multiplayer of the vast majority of titles. Another matter will be whether Sony it will make multiplayer free and will have a service that gives away a couple of old titles a month with 60+ million subscribers. (hint: it will never happen) exclty like psnow was a failure and Xcloud would be the same failure if released outside of gamepass
The big difference between the success of the new Ms service (gamepass) is that it is not a forced service. users choosing because they find it convenient. The strength of gamepass is the release of games a on day one everything else (including streaming) is superfluous. Releasing AAA titles with MC over 90 on such a low-cost service attracts customers. for this in a short time it has more than 20 mil of subscribers.

The subject here becomes complicated. Microsoft will always have an advantage on its platform over someone who is simply a "merchant" who opens a shop on the platform no matter how big.you are.... Not for nothing you will see Teams integrated on Windows 11 and not Google meet ... you will see the Xbox app integrated into the operating system and never anyone else thinks that having gamepass integrated into the OS is not a benefit? Do you think that deciding how and which APIs to develop in your os is not an advantage? imagine if they introduced a console mode in windows with an Xbox interface (which is likely in the future). Many have trouble accepting that Microsoft can own Windows .. they can do it as they want and if they don't it is only and always for their own advantage. Until yesterday they were pushing uwp ... imagine.

I think it's maddening for him. He basically did anything and everything to get as many gamepass subscriptions as possible, including upping production of a lesser console at a time he was set to release his 2 flagship titles instead of his premium console. Coupled with a historical pandemic that kept people at home spending money on all forms of entertainment and was still barely able to break 20 million subs despite significant discounts that have been available for years now. Meanwhile, Sony and Nintendo are releasing remakes and remastered games that people have no problem paying full price for. And is there still not one solid release date for any title purchased in the zenimax deal?

dont worry about xbox sales on steam. Steam is late to the party most of the time. Steam users wait for sales.
You can also add pushing console war and FUD campaigns through their marketing/social teams, make deals to delay next gen patches on the competition (see Yakuza Like a Dragon) or not release them at all (see Psychonauts 2).
Or paying MLB tons of money to release a Sony game day one on GP to try to send the message that paying full price in comparison is stupid.

Xbox existent started this year? Their launch was laughable, while they were the ones screaming from ghe roofs that they had the best launch line up, the best multiplatform titles and the best hardware from the start. Well it didn't aged well for them, and releasing 2 games at the end of the year is not something i find to clap for. One game is half assed and looks like a generic shooter (environment and graphics), the other one is a race game we know by know…nothing new. And yea Sony does the same thing, but at the same time, they are puching a lot more new IP's.
Deathloop, ghost wire and starfield are not started under MS supervision.
It doesn't make your point valid. You think building those data centers is cheap or something for MS ass well? They do not have infinite money or something.
If Sony want to beat GP, they can. The point is, they can use whatever service they want for that. You don't have to own the datacenter yourself. The hardware you place inside these racks are yours.
