Plasma, LCD, OLED, LED, best tv for next gen

That's pretty weird. Maybe turn the timers on and then back off.

So I threw in those settings today and it looks pretty great, although it's a tad on the yellow side. Text in the Xbox dashboard and faces are just a touch off. How do I correct that? Are you using standard or rgb?

I went with standard on Xbox and black level low on tv man. But I heard it shouldn't matter whether you choose standard or RGB, as long as you set the tv's black level correctly. But I don't know that for certain.

Ahhhhh!!!!! It's actually red. The lips and faces are too red and yellow. I have no idea how to fix it lol

Just paid for a 65" flat OLED EF9500.

Getting it Friday. Beyond excited :D

Gonna have a stack of movies ready to drool over after setting it up!

Though also knocking on wood that I won't have to play the panel lottery. We'll see.

Ok guys, this is a bit odd. I don't have any timers enabled or whatsoever, yet after several hours it says it's going to turn off automatically in 5 minutes and I see no way to turn that off. But how?

Try pressing the settings button, going to general, then eco mode, and see if auto power off is set to off or 4 hours?

I was having the exact same issue and it was driving me crazy, because I'd just be happily playing a game and then the TV would suddenly announce it was turning itself off. I think that was the setting that fixed it, but let me know if that's set to off already and it's still happening, because in that case it must be something else. It can definitely be disabled, at least.

I could only imagine what it will be like when we start getting people with UHD Blu-Rays with all those features ready to be taken advantage of.

What the...you mean in movies or games? I have been playing The Witcher 3 with the PC+Expert 1 settings and it looks great and accurate with colours. Have not yet watched a movie or show though. One thing still applies though, it's not a given that someone else's settings will work for someone else too. You could also try to go here:

And use those colour settings. I used these when the Battlefront beta was playable and it made the snow realistically white and the sky nice and blue. Give that a shot.

I asked it on AVS too and i got this reply, i had not checked in those settings yet, so i think that's it:

Go to settings--->General---> Eco-Mode---->turn off "automatic turn off"

I was watching Gotham and the office. Gotham has is really dark and The Office is the opposite and I was getting yellow faces and red lips in both. I switched the color profile from Warm 2 to cool and it looks more normal. I didn't notice the color being off playing GTA or Halo. I do realize that each tv will be different, but I'll give those other settings a shot too.

I just checked, the colour temperature here is medium. Warm 2 or Warm 1 was just not good enough. :)

As for the TV turning itself off, has been fixed. Is indeed found in the general>eco settings.

Nice ! It was definitely the Warm temps that were throwing off the color. They throw a yellow tint over the whole image.

I'm going to check that when I get home and make sure it doesn't happen during my Halo 5 marathon.

Haha i get you. Got to have this badboy looking the best it can get before that game comes out. agreed. :D

I've been trying out the Smartshare option on this TV and trying some videofiles and MP3, it says unrecognized file when i play any MP3 and i can't seem to get my audio system (HDMI ARC) working when playing videofiles that are on a USB device. I have one Hdmi cable going from TV's HDMI ARC to the surround system, this works perfect for gaming, but not the videos on USB in the Smartshare option/app. Anyone know why? The only option that works is TV speaker in the sound out options.

I was browsing through a shitload of pictures, videos, documents that are on my Lacie Little Disc external HDD and i found some pictures that i used years ago to see how bad the banding and green tinge was on my then Panasonic VT30 plasma. All of these were black & white photos of snow and i remember how visible the banding and green tinge was, no banding at all and barely any noticeable green tinge, just oh so slightly. Lovely. Finally a TV where the issues are small and is just a damn freaking good set.

lol, my TV died and I got a kinda cheap Samsung. I hate the fucking thing cuz the motion reproduction is fucking disgusting.

Pixels leave a HUGE AS FUCK trail when I pan the camera. It's just awful but hey, what else can you do when your budget is über limited.

Oh well, I guess there's nothing I can do until I get a job again.

Damn. And to think 1080p 55 inch was like 8k over a year ago. I can't wait til Panasonic and Samsung get into the OLED game, more OLED tvs competition and pricing competition.

Well the 65" Sammy QD (assuming that set you linked is a QD LCD display) *is* $500 cheaper than the 65" LG OLED, but maybe that's not exactly a 'crushing'.

But why bother posting that? It's basically saying "neener neener I was right and you were wrong" to a guy who doesn't even post here anymore because he got banned? Makes no sense that you kept that bottled up all this time just for some sort of forum victory.

Even motion resolution? I think not. It's sample-and-hold, so it needs black frame insertion or frame interpolation.

While I can't speak from personal experience regarding direct comparisons of motion resolution between OLED and the 'flagship' plasmas, having not owned a 'flagship' plasma like a Kuro or Elite, I do speak from having owned and gamed on a plasma set (Panasonic Viera model) for the past 8+ years, and yes my OLED does motion just fine. I won't say perfectly because I hear stories of judder and whatnot (I experience no judder, either), but I have no motion blur or pixel tracers/streaking when panning the camera around rapidly in games. That's enough to tell me that I no longer have to be sad about the death of plasmas.

I have two questions....

Usually i watch Netflix on my Xbox One, but i had already powered off the console so i decided to use the EC9300's Netflix app. I was watching Hell on Wheels and did not change any picture modes/settings, it was on ECO. I was floored. I had not seen it this crisp on Netflix on Xbox One....

1- Is it even possible that the picture quality of Netflix on the TV is simply better than when watching it on the Xbox One Netflix app?

2- If so....could the reason be that i am running a HDMI cable from TV's HDMI ARC into my Sony Surround Set (which has a Blu Ray player/receiver) for the sound and a HDMI cable from Xbox One into the Sony BR player/receiver, that i am losing quality? Maybe i should connect the HDMI directly from console into TV to test it out when i get home.

1) Doubtful. Shouldn't be any difference.
2) No. Receivers don't degrade the signal when used via pass through. It's digital coming in and the same digital signal going out. Now, if you have 30ft of HDMI between to two, then ignore what I just said, 'cause that would cause signal degradation. Though, since HDMI is all transmitted digitally (versus analog wavelengths of old) degradation comes in the form of white pixels, or "glitter," showing up on the screen.

A good HDMI cable help against the signal degradation. I'm using a 10m HDMI cable to connect my PC with my TV. With my old cheap cable I had purple glitter across the screen when displaying 4K content. When I replaced it with a newer more expensive cable of the same length the glitter was gone.

My Xbox one Netflix looks great, much better than my appletv. I'll try the TV app when I get home.

How'd your settings look with TV show content? Did you make the switch to the AV forum settings?

How is your Xbox One and TV connected to the Internet?

If it's wifi, then It's entirely possible that your TV's wifi chipset is faster/more compatible with your router/AP. Better bandwidth will result in a better image.

Another possibility is that the TV's built-in app may be using different picture settings than the XB1. I know when I tried LGs in the past, when I switched to the internal apps I had to basically re-do all my settings because it treated it as a different source and it saved picture settings per-source.

Nah, the HDMI cable is short and the one from Xbox One to receiver/BR player is a damn good one, one of the pricier ones :)

The PC mode + Expert 1 settings looked good on Netflix shows, but it didn't wow me as much as the ECO mode setting (which the Netflix TV app was automatically on) I have not tried the AVS setttings with TV shows yet.

The Xbox One is connected via a wired connection otherwise i cannot get a open NAT. The TV is via WIFI. In a bit i will start some comparions and i will change some settings, see how things look. I don't mind using the Netflix app on the TV, but i DO want to get surround set working with it. For some reason i can only get the TV audio working.

I also noticed something in shows, at certain parts (Hell on Wheels) it would look amazing, crisp as hell, especially during outdoor scenes, and other parts would look less crisp or just not as good. But that can only be the show's doing, not the TV. I then watched a movie, and i really noticed the difference in quality again, these shows and movies aren't all as good looking, that's for sure.

I have had the EC9300 for 9 months now and through all the firmware upgrades found the following settings to be quite accurate.
Since you really are into this Tatsumi I recommend you give it a try lol.

GAME MODE/PC INPUT

OLED Light: 35(no lights), 50-75 (daytime) - this is the only thing you change between nighttime and daytime viewing.
Contrast: 93(WGW)
Brightness: 55(no black crush or loss of shadow detail)
Sharpness: 0
Color: 50
Tint: G12
White Balance: W34
Gamma: High
Black Level: Low

The only point of reference I have for color accuracy is my MacBook pro. I play a video/trailer and try to match the colors of what I see there to the OLED.
The greens/red on this set are a pain in the ass. What I have now is pretty damn close to how the MacBook Pro displays color which it does very well I feel.

To anybody on the fence about this TV I HIGHLY recommend it. The curve is a non-issue I found in actual use and it truly is the best display I have seen so far in person (even compared to my ISF calibrated Pioneer 500m, thought colors are a tad better on that).

Hey guys, if you could give me some advice on this I would really appreciate it.

Is this a good TV?

http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00ZVDX8C8/?tag=neogaf0e-20

I was thinking of waiting until Black Friday but I can buy this from an ebay seller for about $350 and if i'm not mistaken I won't have to pay taxes either.

ebay seller in Q: http://www.ebay.com/itm/331611438701?rmvSB=true

I was looking for a 40-42 inch TV for my apartment. Should I pull the trigger?

Edit: Asked around some more and heard good things so I pulled it! Coming next week too. :D Very happy. Need to buy some movies for the December break which I might do around Black Friday

And all the advanced/expert picture options are off? After having used Super resolution on medium for a lot of gaming sessions now, i don't think i can go back to not using it. I like how extra crisp it makes things look, adding that little bit of extra detail. I have tried the sharpness at 0, and i just find the picture quality looking a bit dull almost, i heard here that 10 is default on this TV. Right now i have it at 15. But tomorrow i will give this a shot. I won't have to edit my PC + Expert 1 combination for that.

I've also decided to change brightness back to 50 from 45 or even 41. I lose waaaaaay too much detail when brightness is 45 or 41. I tested it in Witcher 3 and buildings and stuff were just too dark during daytime, looks really off.

Something else that i've noticed and i don't know if it's some setting causing it or it's simply the game....but in both Witcher 3 and GTA V the nighttime sky looks odd...when i look up and i move the camera around...it almost looks...oily? If that's the right way to explain it. The colours are accurate but there's this weird graphical effect in it, making it look oily. Like a paint effect.

I turned my brightness up too, I was losing a little detail in darker shows. Also, I'm getting the same in GTA. It looks like the light from the city is polluting the darks... I wonder if I go out to the country if it'll be truly black. Either way it looks good. Street lights and lights reflecting off buildings at night are incredible. It's perfect.

Yes exactly, it's like a pollution effect. I have it in Witcher 3 too. At first i thought this was due to the brightness setting at 41 or 45, but that wasn't it. I doubt it's the gamma setting but i will give that a try. It's been a long time since i had a bigscreen before this, before the EC9300 i had been gaming on a 22inch monitor, chances are i just didn't see it as bad on that.

Yep, GTA V still looks fine with brightness at 50. It's still significantly darker than it has ever been on any other TV.

I'm redecorating my room, and I want my X1 to be able to send the signal (through my receiver), to both my PC and Tv. I will need a receiver with 2 HDMI out then, correct?

Preferably I'd also have the PC near said monitor to be able to play games on my TV, but I guess I need to put 2 cables down for that, and I don't have space for that, so I'll stick to just one. I guess HDMI splitters don't work for that.

On that note, I asked before, but does anyone have a receiver that is 4K capable? I don't know if the units currently on the market already have all the stuff like HDR and such in mind. I saw an Onkyo one but I'm not sure if it is ready for everything 4K yet.

@ Kambing

I tried the settings.

You meant a Game mode combined with PC mode/input right? Or did you mean either Game mode or PC?

I did the combination of the two. For me this is a big decrease in picture quality. Trying out Witcher 3, the overall picture quality is much worse than what i had on PC+Expert 1. The foliage and details are not nearly as crisp, basically it really makes it all very dull looking in my book.

Ahhh sorry, I missed that. Thanks! A little out of my budget for now though haha. I need the new TV first.
I was hoping the Onkyo 535 and 636 were able to do the job.

Not sure whether the Onkyo 636 supports HDMI 2.0a. That's what you want, by the way, HDMI 2.0a. The Marantz NR1606 has everything you need for $699. IIRC, that's a couple hundred more than the Onkyo, but I promise it's worth it. ;-)

I made a photo of what i meant with oily, polluted look of the sky in Witcher 3, in GTA V it looks similar to this as well.

https://www.dropbox.com/home/Anime?preview=20151023_174424.jpg

That was on the PC+ Expert 1 combination with the colour settings from Rtings. I changed to the Game mode today and i noticed it wasn't nearly as bad. So something in those colour settings is causing the really polluted look.

Hmmm. I may play with it a little more. Halo 5 looks great btw

Seems like the best place to ask...

Anyone have issues with the PS4s BD playback?

I was watching The Dark Knight rises last night and the image was extremely washed out on RGB Full PS4/RGBFull Sony W7. I swapped both the Limited and the deep blacks returned but were also most too black like crushing.

Do Blu-Ray's not cater for Full RGB? Should this be an issue if both devices are set to Full anyway?

For movies whether on Blu-ray or streaming, the correct setting would be limited. Your display must be set as such along with the PS4 for proper video playback.

Just paid for a 65" flat OLED EF9500.

Getting it Friday. Beyond excited :D

Gonna have a stack of movies ready to drool over after setting it up!

Though also knocking on wood that I won't have to play the panel lottery. We'll see.

so envious

i have wanted to buy a OLED but i bought a new TV couple of years ago and just cant justify it. let us know how it performs
